Lottery Winner Shot Dead In Home Invasion

A 20-year-old man who recently won a lottery jackpot worth nearly $500m (£349m) has been shot dead in his Georgia home, police said.

Craigory Burch Jr died from gunshot wounds after his home in Fitzgerald was broken in to late on Thursday.

His girlfriend told WALB-TV she was in the home at the time of the attack and that sheran for help.Jasmine Hendricks said three masked men stormed into the home after blasting through the door with a shotgun.

She said Mr Burch pleaded with the armed men not to shoot him before throwing his pants containing his wallet and bank card in their direction.

The men then shot her boyfriend before running away, Ms Hendricks told the Albany-based news station.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting local law enforcement. No arrests have been made.Mr Burch won a $434,272 Fantasy 5 jackpot in November.

Friends told WALB that the forklift operatorused some of his winnings to buy Christmas gifts for people struggling financially.

  1. The regulations obliging the lottery winners to disclose their identity are to be revised. As we see this poses real threat to life. If not there is a way out. The draws can be entered via the online services, Icelotto review, which guarantee full anonymity.
