Oyo Senator, Sunmonu Writes Open Letter To Her Senatorial District, Condemns Rape Incident

Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu, Oyo Central

OPEN LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF OYO CENTRAL

Dear Constituents,It is with a heavy heart, anger and great upset that I write this particular open letter to you.

This is a period that we are supposed to be celebrating the blessing of the Almighty for allowing each of us to see the year of 2016 and projecting how we want to move OyoCentral forward.

I am not unaware of the recent spate of lawlessness and anarchy inmy home town of Oyo and have been working to quell this. My silence on the issue is not because nothing is being done, but because I do not think it right to give the anarchists the attention and publicity they seek on our respective platforms.

In the past few weeks I have held 3 meetings with His Excellency, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, the Executive Governor of Oyo state on the issue of violence and lawlessness in Oyo town.

I have also spoken to the Oyo state Commissioner of Police and the Divisional Police Officer, Atiba Local Government a number of times. Both the Executive Governor, CP and DPO assured me that they were aware of the situation and were working towards restoring peace in Oyo town.

Let me be clear, this Government at both Federal and State levels will not condone or tolerate acts of lawless and anarchy. The security of life, liberty and property are the cardinal objectives of government and shall be protected at all costs. The sad case of the young lady who was raped is not only criminal but pathetic.

As a mother whose legislative interest shoulders women and children, I will take stringent actions to seek justice and provide proper rehabilitation for the victim. I shall ensure that the perpetrators will definitely be brought to book.

It is patently abhorrent for a few to believe that they can constitute aterror and inflict fear to the daily lives of law abiding citizens. Such persons will definitely feel the full force of the law in due course.

I charge all citizens who witness illegal acts to report to the police who will take appropriate action. You must not be intimidated or afraid. The future of our society rests on the good people of Oyo reporting the miscreant few to the authorities.

It is extremely unfortunate that the nefarious acts of a few miscreants seek to divert attention away from our vision of progress and development. Be assured that our attention will not bediverted.

The betterment of Oyo is at the forefront of my mind and I shall do everything within my power to achieve that vision.Aji sebi Oyo l'aariGod bless Oyo state.God bless Nigeria.Yours,Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu
