Shocker! Kwara Government Bans Religious Activities In Public Schools |PoliFocus

The Kwara State government has warned religious organisations against preaching or engaging in religious activities in public schools, SignalNG has reported.

It was rumoured that a local government Education Secretary forced the head teacher of a public school in Ilorin to conduct separate assemblies for Christian and Muslim pupils.

A statement on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Fatimoh Bisola Ahmed, reads: “It has come to the notice of the government that some religious organisations have been going to public schools to preach during the morning Assembly. The ministry warns that no religious organisation is permitted to go to public schools to hold any religious activities during morning Assembly.

“The ministry, therefore, directs that prayers should be said silently. The government appeals to school heads and other stakeholders to adhere to this directive as it is to maintain peace and decorum in our schools. All principals, head teachers and Education Secretaries should please take please note.”

The government has promised to address the decay in the health sector to make health care delivery accessible to the people.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Raji Abdulrazak, spoke yesterday when he met with members of the National Association of General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGMDP) in Ilorin.

According to Abdulrazak, the present administration is working to reposition the health sector which will create a sustainable health service system.

He added that the government would fix the health centres to meet the people’s needs.

Abdulrazak hinted that the government had concluded plans to renovate primary and secondary health centres, and also equip them for the people’s benefit.

Chairman of NAGMDP Dr Lakadr Adebayo praised Abdulrazak for going round facilities to know the actual needs of each health centre and necessary equipment to deliver quality services. He urged the government to provide additional manpower force needed in the health sector.

The commissioner also admonished the Association of General Private Nursing Council of Nigeria to orientate members on moral ethics for better effectiveness.

According to him, the association’s effort in the healthcare delivery is noted, and will never be overlooked.

Details Of The Supreme Court Judgement That Sacked Ihedioha, Declared APC’s Uzodinma winner in Imo |PoliFocus

The Supreme Court on Monday nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of Imo State.
The apex court declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 9 governorship election in the state.

In the unanimous judgment of the seven-member panel, read by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court agreed that results in 388 polling units were unlawfully excluded during the collation of the final governorship election result in Imo State.

Justice Kekere-Ekun said with the results from the 388 polling units added, Mr Uzodinma polled a majority of the lawful votes and ought to have been declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Consequently, she voided and set aside the declaration of Mr lhedioha as the winner of the 2019 governorship election in the South-East state.
The court ordered that the certificate of return wrongly or unlawfully issued to Mr lhedioha be immediately withdrawn by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a fresh one issued to Mr Uzodinma as the elected governor of the state.

“Vote due to the appellant Senator Hope Uzodinma and the APC from 388 Polling Units were wrongly excluded from scores ascribed to the appellant(to them),” the justices ruled.
“It is thereby ordered that the appellant votes from 388 Polling Units unlawfully excluded from the appellant vote declared shall be added and that the first respondent, Emeka Ihedioha, was not duly elected by a majority of lawful votes cast at the said election.”

“His return as the elected governor of Imo State is hereby declared null and void and accordingly set aside
“It is hereby declared that the first appellant (Mr Uzodinma) holds the majority of lawful votes cast at the governorship election held in Imo State on March 9, 2019.”

The justice said Mr Uzodinma has satisfied the mandatory constitutional requirements to be declared governor.
“It is hereby declared that first appellant, Senator Hope Uzodinma, is the winner of the governorship of Imo State held on March 9, 2019.

“The certificate issued to the first defendant (Mr Ihedioha) is hereby withdrawn.
“It is hereby ordered that the certificate of return shall be issued to the first appellant, Senator Hope Uzodinma, forthwith and he should be sworn in as the governor of Imo State,” she ruled.

Prof Soyinka Okays Amotekun, Describes It As A Desirable New Year Gift |PoliFocus

The Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Monday hailed the regional security outfit of the Southwestern States, code-named ‘Operation Amotekun’, saying it satisfied the yearnings of the people.

Soyinka, while describing the security outfit inaugurated last week as “a desirable New Year gift,” said he had earlier given up on the political leadership of the region until the launch of the security outfit.

The respected playwright spoke on Monday in Lagos at the “Never Again Conference” organised by the Nzuko Umunna and Ndigbo, to mark the 50 years after the Nigerian civil war.

Soyinka said, “To thank a number of public-spirited, humanity-considering governors in this nation, who finally responded to the demand and yearnings of the citizens and produced one organization called Amotekun.

“It’s one of the most unexpected because I had given up on them; it is an unexpected but at the same time a desirable New Year Present.”

Soyinka also called for the release of the incarcerated activist, Agba Jalingo.

Again Rockets Hit Iraq Military Base Hosting United States Troops |PoliFocus

Airbase north of Baghdad targeted with rocket barrage, wounding four Iraqi soldiers, as US-Iran tensions simmer.
Rockets slammed into an Iraqi airbase north of Baghdad on Sunday where US troops have been based, wounding at least four Iraqi troops. No immediate information about American casualties was reported.

At least six rockets struck the Al Balad base, which hosts American trainers, advisers and a company that provides maintenance services for F-16 aircraft. Some projectiles fell on a restaurant inside the airbase, officials said.

The attack came just days after Iran fired ballistic missiles at two bases in Iraq that house US forces, causing no casualties.
A majority of US airmen stationed at the Al Balad airbase, 80km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, had already left, AFP news agency quoted military sources as saying.

Some shells hit the runway of the airbase while another shell struck the gate, said Colonel Mohammed Khalil, a police officer in the northern province of Saladin.

“Three Iraqi soldiers, who were on guard at the airbase gate, were injured as a result of the shelling,” he said.

Another mistake???
