INTL NEWS: Mother of Saudi youth facing beheading urges Obama to intervene

Mother of Saudi youth facing beheading
urges Obama to intervene

The mother of a youth facing beheading for
taking part in protests in Saudi Arabia has
pleaded with US President Barack Obama to
“rescue my son” in an interview published by
the British daily the Guardian Thursday.

The sentence against Shiite Ali al-Nimr, only
17 when he was arrested in February 2012,
has drawn international condemnation over
his young age and allegations that he was
tortured into making a confession.
“When I visited my son for the first time I
didn’t recognise him,” Nusra al-Ahmed told
the newspaper.

“I could clearly see a wound on his forehead.
Another wound on his nose. They disfigured
it. Even his body, he was too thin.
“For a month he was peeing blood,” she
added. “He said he felt like a mass of pain, his
body was no more.”

In an interview with AFP last month, his
father Mohammed al-Nimr said he hoped the
king would save his son and warned that if
his son is put to death the minority Shiite
community could react violently.
Mother Nusra al-Ahmed called the sentence —
which she said would involve her son being
crucified after he is decapitated — “backwards
in the extreme”.

“No sane and normal human being would rule
against a child of 17 years old using such a
sentence. And why? He didn’t shed any blood,
he didn’t steal any property.”
She called on Obama to exert his influence on
the Saudi authorities.

“He is the head of this world and he can
interfere and rescue my son,” she said.
“If he carried out this act, I feel it would raise
his esteem in the eyes of the world. He would
be rescuing us from a great tragedy.”

The youth is a nephew of Nimr al-Nimr, a
Shiite religious leader who is also on death
row having been identified by Saudi
authorities as a driving force behind
demonstrations that began four years ago in
Eastern Province.

Most of Sunni-dominated Saudi Arabia’s
Shiites live in the east, and have complained
of marginalisation.

Ali al-Nimr’s father admitted that his son, then
a high school student, had joined thousands of
other people in the protests.
But he insisted that Ali was innocent on
numerous other charges including burglary,
attacking police and using a Molotov cocktail.
The court sentenced Ali al-Nimr to death but
gave no further details.

Execution in the kingdom is usually carried
out by the sword, sometimes in public.

Ministerial Nominees: Odimegwu, Oyinlola, Bello, others on Buhari’s 2nd list

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday
sent the second list of ministerial nominees to Senate President Bukola Saraki. This is coming 12 days after the first list was sent to the lawmakers, who will begin screening of the nominees today.

The second batch of nominees was submitted to the Senate President by the Chief of Staff to the President, Alhaji Abba Kyari accompanied by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters,
Senator Ita Enang, at 4.25pm.
Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House), was also part of the delegation.

The identities of the nominees were still shrouded in secrecy last night over what highly placed sources attributed to angst in the Presidency over the leakage of
the first list to the media.
However, dependable sources said prominent names on the second list include:

former Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Barr Mohammed Bello
(Adamawa); former Governor of Osun State, PrinceOlagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun); former Chairman of the National Population Commission, NPC, Chief Festus
Odimegwu (Imo); former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN (Ondo); former spokesman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, Osita Okechukwu (Enugu); and former ANPP governorship candidate in
Abia, Ikechi Emenike (Abia).

Others on the list include: Hadiza Abdullahi; Adamu Adamu (Bauchi), Hajia Bukar Ibrahim, the former first lady of Yobe State (Yobe); Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa); James Ocholi, SAN (Kogi); Anthony Anwuka, a professor of education administration, who was
secretary to the government of Imo state; and Isaac Adewole, a professor of obstetrics and gynaecology.

Others are Dan Ali, a brigadier-general who was retired in 2013;
Okechukwu Enelamah, the CEO of African Capital Alliance; Claudius Omoyele Daramola, a professor of sociology of education, from Ondo State and Aisha Abubakar.

The submission of the names was in line with President Buhari’s promise to send the second batch of ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
The Senate scheduled today to begin screening and possible confirmation of the nominees.

The exercise is billed to take three days.
Meanwhile, the Senate leadership went into a crucial meeting last night to firm up modalities for the screening. Sources said that Senator Ita Enang was part of the meeting, a move sources said was to pave the way for a soft landing for some of the controversial
nominees.

Meanwhile, as senators begin screening of ministerial nominees today, it was gathered that a fresh hurdle has been designed with the Senators toying with the plan of asking ministerial nominees that have been indicted by panels of inquiry to step aside.

The submission of the list has put paid to threat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators to abort today’s screening unless President Buhari sent the list of nominees from the 36 states of the federation in line with the provisions of the 1999 constitution on ministerial appointments.

The additional list of ministerial nominees was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters ( Senate), Senator Ita Enang.

The Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, also confirmed receipt of the list by his boss.

However both Enang and Olaniyonu refused to disclose the content of the list as they said it was contained in a sealed envelope which according to them, would only be opened by the Senate President when presenting it to senators today.

Olaniyonu said: “The list has been received by the Senate President. We received it at 4:24pm and the list was brought by the Chief of Staff to the President, Alhaji Abba Kyari. He was accompanied by the SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang and his counterpart in the House of
Representatives, Hon. Sumaila Kawu.”

KOGI2015: APC may replace Audu as governorship candidate

There are indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may replace Abubakar Audu as its governorship candidate in the November 21 governorship election in Kogi State, reports NewsDay.

The party’s Governorship Primary Election Appeal Panel has called for Audu's disqualification on a variety of allegations, bothering on corruption and violation of the provisions of the constitution of the party and the guidelines for the conduct of the primary.

The APC appeal panel, chaired by Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, with Ahmad El-Marzuq and Tunde Imolehin serving as secretary and member respectively, in an 11-page report, expressly called for the nullification of the emergence of Audu as the candidate of the APC in the gubernatorial election in the state.

The panel in report, which has already been submitted to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), said the party should replace Audu with Yahaya Bello, who scored the second highest votes and who is constitutionally eligible to contest the governorship election.

There are, however, moves by some powerful forces in the party, who are working against the implementation of the report.

It is unclear if the APC leadership is ready to implement the recommendation of the appeal committee or not.

‘character traits uncommon among politicians’ during his lifetime. He said
he is in heaven because he sincerely forgave Obasanjo who jailed him and much more during his lifetime.

The post read thus:

Alamieyeseigha was my friend. A good man.
A great man. A lover of his people. They reverently refer to him as The Governor General of Ijaw Nation. And truly he was.
When Goodluck Jonathan ‘s hope of succeeding the late President Yar’adua was in jeopardy, I know what he did. I know the burden he bore. I know the struggles and travails he went through. He humbled himself

He silently and strenuously pleaded with friends and foes from all over the nation.
Notwithstanding the fact that the resultant effect of his efforts will be to promote his subordinate to a political level that will forever be above him and a height he will never attain himself.
This is a character traits uncommon among politicians.

Many who believe they must be the only star in the firmament.
Also like a good Christian he openly, publicly
and sincerely forgave President Obasanjo who was his jailer.

Alams my friend Alams, “How indeed are the mighty fallen and the weapons of war perish.
Tell this not in Gath, publish this not on the streets of Ashkelon . Lest our Philistines triumph and their sons rejoice.”
DSP u have run a good race and fought a good fight. A sure crown awaits u with our Lord, your Maker.

As the Crown Prince of the Ijaw Nation bows out May the God of Almighty who till this day still stands with His people, stand by and bless your people you have left behind.
Adieu, good friend.
Sleep well in the bosom of the Lord.

Hold APC for Diepreye Alemieyeseigba's Death, Says Ayo Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has again come hard on All Progressives Congress (APC) and accused it of pushing the late former Bayelsa state governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, to his death.
Gov Ayo Fayose

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state seems unhappy about the development
Alamieyeseigha reportedly died on October 10 of a high blood pressure, The Punch reports.
Fayose whom spoke through his special assistant on public communications and new media, Lere Olayinka, said the plot to extradite the Alamieyeseigha to the United
Kingdom to face fresh trial was the handiwork of the APC government.
Late Diepreye Alemieyeseigba

“Obviously, the Federal Government was behind the plot to extradite the Alamieyeseigha to the United Kingdom to face fresh trial, a situation that made him to abandon his medical
treatment in Dubai.

“Even though I am not against anti-corruption fight, it is painful that in the present day Nigeria, political vendetta is being allowed to override the sovereignty of the country, such
that the Presidency was eager to release, a citizen of Nigeria that had been tried, convicted and later pardoned in accordance with the laws of the country.

“Having been tried and convicted eight years ago, served his sentence and forfeited properties to the Bayelsa State Government; methinks Alamieyeseigha should have been
allowed to live his life without unnecessary political intimidation and harassment.”

He further said the APC hounded the Ijaw leader to death because of his staunch stance on the upcoming Bayelsa State governorship election.
“I have consistently asked them why they have closed their eyes to the corruption allegations against their own people.

Why is their attention only on people from the Southern part of Nigeria? And now that Alamieyeseigha has been hounded
and harassed to death, what else can the apostles of political
vendetta do?

Fayose described the former governor as an “an eclipse of a political figure, who despite all political odds, still commanded great respect from his people.”
The outspoken governor commiserated with the deceased family, former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the governor of Bayelsa state and the entire people of the state.

“My prayer is that God in His infinite mercies will console the entire Alamieyeseigha’s family and the people of Bayelsa State, especially members of our great party, the PDP and also grant them the fortitude to bear this sad and painful loss.”

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress has sent it condolence to the famil y and friends of the former Bayelsa state governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

APC said that the news of the demise of the former governor came as a shock to the party as his illness was not made public. The party that the family would find comfort in their moment of sadness, as well as the strength to bear the loss of their loved one.

MUST READ: 3 Reasons Why You Should Not Subscribe To MTN So-called Bonus Again

Stop Subscribing To MTN bonus

It is no longer news that the free call bonus of MTN Nigeria has been reviewed. The credit given after the subscription can no longer run you through out the week unlike before now that was seen to be unlimited.

Reasons why you should stop it:
1. It gives room for unnecessary talk cum discussion
Having the bonus will expose you to long discussions and some not to be heard information or secret can be revealed and the concormitant effect of such may be catastophic....  You know what I mean..  Chuckles.

Permit me to state that I'm not discouraging long gist, because I don't want the love birds to come for my head LOL.

2. It is now a means of exploitation by the service provider
The so-called bonus is now expensive that the normal pay as u go tarrif plans.
Follow me as I explain this mathematically;
Let's use the subscription of the one of #250 as a case study, with the #250 you will have access to free 20 minutes calls to only MTN numbers.

Let me break it down;
          #250 = 20 mins (MTN calls only)
          1 min = #12.50k
          1 sec = 21k

While if you are on BetaTalk,
          1 sec = 11k
But with #5 daily access fee
I want to calculate the cost of 20 minutes now
          1 min = #6.60k
          20 min = #132.00k
I will assume that you use it for 7 days
          7 days daily access fee = #35.00
          Total for a week = #167.00k

Note: And when you are on this BetaTalk plan, you can make calls to all networks within Nigeria at flat rate of 11k

It means, with #250 subscription, MTN will gain #83.00k from you.

3. You are paying pension for the bonus you have enjoyed
It is a common saying that nothing goes for nothing, so logically it is payback time.
I once paid the pension but never again.
Let's shine our eye.

May we have a nice week ahead.

News: NAF Plane Crashes In Adamawa State Yesterday

A Nigerian Air Force plane reportedly crashed in
Adamawa state on Saturday, October 10.
Note: This fighter jet is not the one that crashed

Premium Times reports with reference to the authorities that all crew members and passengers have died. The specific number of victims was not given.

NAF spokesman Dele Alonge issued a statement which says that the crash of the F7-Ni fighter jet
was recorded about at 4.23pm in Hong local government area when it was returning to the base. The accident was said to have been caused by bad weather conditions.

“There was no survival as the pilot of the aircraft lost his life in the unfortunate incident.”

Abubakar noted that an investigation panel had been set up “to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the accident”.

In August a NAF aircraft crashed in Kaduna state leaving seven people dead. The tragedy occurred 10 minutes after the helicopter took-off.

The aircraft was Abuja-bound and had taken off at about 6:45am from the Kaduna Military Airfield before the mishap.

After the crash, Air Force Chief Abubakar constituted an investigative panel, headed by an air vice marshal, to unravel the cause of the accident. The outcome of the investigation, like that of earlier crashes is yet to be made public.
