Opinion: Like Boko Haram Insurgents, Like Pipeline Vandals

President Muhammadu Buhari few days ago sternly warned the Niger Delta militants that are sabotaging the nation by bombing oil facilities in their region.

It would be recalled that, Boko Haram fundamentalists have been terrorising the North Eastern part of Nigeria, turning the place to unsafe region with over 2 million people displaced.

Their activities have received and still receiving condemnation within Nigeria and all over the world. They maim, kill and bomb schools, residential areas, government organisations, among others.

The most popular of their act against humanity is the kidnap of the Chibok girls and massacre of Boni Yadi students cannot but be mentioned.

The present onslaught against them by Buhari-led administration is commendable as the sect is not finding it funny any longer, though many grounds are yet to be covered.

In Niger Delta, they find pleasure in sabotaging the nation by bombing pipelines and oil facilities. They also kidnap internationals, thereby denting the image of the country in the international community.

Though they always claim that crude oil is their birthright and should be having the final say as to how it is refined and proceeds realised from same.

When comparing the duo, Boko Haram can be said to be killing and maiming innocent people while Niger Delta militants finds pleasure in killing the country’s economy.

In view of this, I throw my weight behind Buhari, he should treat them like he is treating the islamic fundamentalists.

But I feel ashamed as I read some comments ascribed to some of the leaders in the region that should be talking senses into these myopic militants condemning the President for saying he will deal ruthlessly with them.

If truly we have interest in the development of our country, we should all embrace every act that we make it a better place. Nigeria must get back to its pride of place in the committee of Nations.

Deliberate act of sabotaging the nation’s should be condemned by all.

For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. (Romans 14:9 KJV)

But Paul is not talking about that. He is referring to His lordship in view of the atoning work He accomplished through His death and resurrection.

Court Orders DSS To Pay Hon. Afolabi Akanni N5m For Illegal Detention

Court Orders DSS To Pay Hon. Afolabi Akanni N5m For Illegal Detention
THE Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday ordered the Department of State Services to pay a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Afolabi Akanni, N5m damages for his illegal arrest, Punch Newspaper reports.

The court condemned his arrest and “continued detention for 18 harrowing, excruciating and brain cudgeling days, without access to his lawyers and family.”Akanni, representing Efon Constituency 1 at the Ekiti State House of Assembly, was arrested on March 4 by the DSS and detained for 18 days over alleged sundry allegations.

The Commissioner for Information, Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi, had at a press briefing on March 17 said available information indicated that “Akanni, has died in the custody of the DSS.”

But the security agency quickly paraded Akanni to journalists in Abuja to proof that he was alive. He was later released after 18 days in custody.

Dissatisfied, Akanni through his lawyer, Obafemi Adewale, sued the DSS and demanded for damages. In his judgment on Wednesday, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, said that the DSS, had all along failed to either deny or defend the position, facts and allegations of the applicant.

According to him, in the eyes of the law, there is no basis for the court to believe that all that the applicant had alleged against the DSS were not true.

In line with that, he said that Akanni’s fundamental rights as a citizen of Nigeria, as specified by the principles of the Rule of Law and the African Charter on the Rights of individuals, had been violated by the DSS for illegally arresting and continually detaining him for 18 days. The court determined three of the four issues raised by the applicant in his favour.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. (Ephesians 1:7 KJV)

Redemption! What a glorious word! It belongs to everyone who has trusted the Lord Jesus Christ. Only through Christ one can inherit redemption. The Greek word for “redemption” appears about 10 times in the New Testament. It depicted the freedom of a prisoner or a slave through the payment of money. The money paid to set the captive free is known as the ransom. This is the idea that Paul had in mind when he wrote, “In whom we have redemption through his blood”. The word “redemption” here refers to our deliverance from sin, and from its eternal condemnation, which Christ has secured by the offering of His blood in His sacrificial death on the cross. The price or the ransom that the Lord Jesus Christ has paid for our redemption is His own blood.

The only means for our redemption is "through His blood." If there were any other means for our redemption why would Christ die? If any price less costly had been sufficient, Christ would not have poured out His blood. Nothing but the blood of Christ could obtain our redemption. Father would not have sacrificed His Son on the cross, if there were other appropriate and adequate ransom to be paid. So the Apostle Peter said in 1 Peter 1:18-19

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” This also shall be the theme of the new song that the redeemed shall sing in heaven, for Revelation 5:9 says, “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation”.

As a result of our redemption through the blood of Christ, we now have the forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness is one of the most important blessings of the redemption that Christ has achieved for us. When we have received the freedom from the guilt of our sins, God has also pardoned all our sins. Our redemption and forgiveness bespeaks of the riches of God’s grace toward us. It cost us nothing to have our redemption and the forgiveness of our sin, for God in His infinite grace has given them freely to us. We are redeemed, not by our merits, but by His grace alone.

Meet 'Joanna Giannouli' That Was Born Without Womb, Cervix And Vagina

Meet 'Joanna Giannouli' That Was Born Without Womb, Cervix And Vagina
Joanna Giannouli
Joanna Giannouli, 27, has a condition which means she has no womb, cervix and upper vagina.

Here, she explains the challenges of a syndrome that affects around one in 5,000 women as reported by BBC.

When we first saw the doctor, my father put on a brave face. My mother, on the other hand, didn't take it so well.

She blamed herself for the past 10 years. Itwas really heartbreaking to see her like that.

We didn't talk about it much for the first five years. I wasn't able to talk about it. I felt destroyed and incredibly weak.

My mother believes she may have done something wrong in her pregnancy. I've explained to her that she didn't do anything wrong, it was just genes.

It's a condition that is stigmatised. The most hurtful thing was when I was abandoned after my former partner found out.

I was engaged when I was 21, living in Athens. When I told my fiance about the condition, he broke off the engagement.

That all belongs in the past and I am OK now. For the past five years, fortunately, I have had a stable and loving relationship.

He knew from the beginning that I have this condition and he chose to stay with me. He knows that maybe the future will be without children.

He's OK with it. I'm also OK with that. I am one of the luckiest. My mother took me to our family doctor when I was 14 because I still wasn't menstruating.

He didn't examine me because he wouldn't touch my private parts and when I became 16 he sent me to a hospital to be checked out.

They realised that I didn't have a vaginal tunnel and I had Rokitansky syndrome.

Because I was born without a functional vagina, the doctors had to make one in order for me to have sex.

It went well, really well. I stayed in a hospital for about two weeks, in order to recover.

Then I had to be about three months laying on a bed - I couldn't get up. I did vaginal exercises in order to expand my new vaginal tunnel.

The first sign of it is you have primal amenorrhea - you don't have any menstruation at all.

Apart from that, you cannot have sexual intercourse. That's why I had major surgery aged 17.

The doctors made me a new one. It was a revolutionary procedure in Athens.

The new vagina the doctors made was narrow and small, and it caused me a lot of pain while having sex, and I had to expand the perineum by doing vaginal exercises.

It's a small area underneath the vagina. It's skin, it's tissue, and they had to cut it more in order to expand the entrance, as I call it.

After that I was OK physically, but I was not OK emotionally. It's a burden, like something that you cannot get rid of it.

I had partners who emotionally abused me about this condition. I couldn't have a stable relationship for many years because of that.

It is a haunting and unbearable situation. It steals your happiness, your mentality, your chances of having a good and stable relationship.

It leaves you with a huge void that cannot be filled, it fills you with anger, guilt, and shame.

Apart from that, it was hard afterwards. It was just taking a toll on me emotionally, psychologically - it was really, really hard.

Well, it's been almost 10 years. I'm still feeling bad about it but I'm not ashamed any more, it's been way too long.

And I've realised that I cannot change it, it's just the way it is, I have to embrace it and live with it.

For the first few years, and still sometimes, I thought I was worthless. Damaged goods. Not worthy of being loved.

I was a lost soul for many years. It can destroy your life. It puts you in a really hard position. I battled depression, anxiety, panic attacks, you name it.It taught me a lesson.

Although I don't believe in God, I do believe that this was a huge wake-up call - never take anything for granted.

I was reborn. It gave me a new life, a new identity. It changed the course of my life.

Before, I was a typical teenager with ups and downs. Afterwards, I became really, really mature. I grew up rapidly. I am thankful for that.

This defined me as a person. I am living each day as it is. I am not making any future plans because I don'tknow if I'm going to be alive.

Not many people know this about me. I wanted to keep it a secret and my mum told family members. It wasn't the best experience because people pity you.

I don't want people to feel sorry for me. I'm not dying, I'm not in danger. People had this pitiful look. It mademe feel sadder about myself.

I couldn't talk about it because in Athens - in Greece generally - people are really close-minded. Sometimes it felt like I was living in the Middle Ages.I couldn't find a support group in Greece, I couldn't find anyone else to talk about it.

And I needed someone to talk about it! It was huge, and most women with the condition are ashamed, really.

I've found a couple of women that were willing to talk about it, and after a while they disappeared because they were ashamed of it.

I would love to be a mother in some way, be it a biological, a surrogate mother or a foster mum.

A mother is not the one who gives birth but is the woman who cares for a child. At this stage of my life, I'm not thinking about it but maybe in the future I will have children. I love kids, we will see.

It is liberating to talk about it. I want to support every woman that has this condition because I have been through hell and I know what problems this can cause.

Many women have committed suicide because of this. It can be really depressing.I found the strength and courage because I want to help other women in the same position because if wedon't help each other then who will? It gives me strength when I talk about it.
