Nigeria as a country embraced Democracy as a system of government. As we all know that in democracy people’s opinions are respected and obeyed. This is done through elections, this gives room for the citizenry to have a take in who will govern them.

It operates a multi-party system. This means that

Late Umaru Musa Yar'Adua died on May 5th, 2010 due to illness. His then Vice, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was Sworn-in.

In 2011, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan contested and won still under the same PDP platform,he took the oat of allegiance again on 29th of May, 2011.

Fulani Herdsmen, Another Boko Haram?

Fulani Herdsmen, Another Boko Haram?

The disturbing news about the Fulani herdsmen in the resent time is a thing of concern to all Nigerians not only the South-Western part of the country.

Fulani herdsmen otherwise known as nomadic cattle rearers. They graze cattles from one place to another and even from a state to another.

They value the lives of their cattles than fellow human beings, that is, it is extremely difficult for them to let go of any scenario that leads to the death of any of their cattle.

The resent kidnap of the former Minister and presidential candidate of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 1999 general elections and also a cheiftain of Afenifere, Yoruba Socio-cultural Group, Chief Olu Falae by this group of people was an height of insult and criminality to Yoruba Nation and Nigeria at large.

Though initially, the leaders of the Fulani herdsmen denied that the kidnap was arranged and perfected by his people.

Meanwhile, while narrating his ordeal in the hands of these Fulani herdsmen, Chief Olu Falae confirm the claim that his kidnap was staged by Fulani herdsmen.

He went on further to state that they even tried killing him and that had it being been that they succeeded in killing him, Yoruba Nation would have gone to war with the Fulanis.

While parading the suspects by the police, they claimed that they kidnapped Chief Olu Falae in order to raise money for Sallah (Muslim celebration). Was the reason justifiable?
Though one of the children of Chief Olu Falae claimed that ransom was paid before the release of Chief Olu Falae, but Nigeria Police has stated clearly that it didn't know anything about the payment of ransom.

When reacting to the their arrest, Chief Olu Falae was able to identify them unscrupuous Fulani herdsmen that kidnapped him.

The war of words between former Minister of Aviation and a yoruba leader, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and the former governor of Kano State, Engr. Rabiu Kwankwoso about this ugly development is regretable.

Femi Fani-Kayode calling Fulani herdsmen as 'Tse Tse flies' is unwarranted and unelderstatemanly.
To be candid, the excesses of this herdsmen should be curtailed, they have moved from wanton destruction of farmland to robbery and now kidnapping!

They should be checked now before it is too late. Nigeria's law enforcement agents should step up their games and check all these miscreants.

Going by history about the emergence of the dreaded fundamentalists called boko haram, it all started like a child play and presently it has turned to a national and even international threat.

In One of the videos released by their leader, Abubakar Shekau some months ago, he stated it categorically that boko started with knives but can now boast of many armored personnel carriers among other deadly ammunitions.

Boko Haram is a national embarrassment to Nigeria and it may be stated that the former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan lost his re-election bid to the untamed boko haram activities and high level of corruption during his reign in Aso Rock (presidential villa).

The issue of the massacre of Federal Girls College in Adamawa State and the famous Chibok girls #BringBackOurGirls cannot be forgotten so soon.

The kidnapped Chibok girls have used over a year with this religious extremists, called boko haram. It is my prayer that these innocent girls be rescued very soon.

It was reported boko haram has joined the Islamic State In Syria (ISIS), and this will logically transform boko haram to a wing of ISIS in Africa.

I cannot be commend the time frame that President Muhammadu Buhari gave the security Chiefs to flush out boko haram by December this year, though the security chiefs believed that the target can be met, this they have said in many fora.

But some nigerians are having contrary opinion as to that, one of them is the former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon. He said it few days ago that the December deadline is not feasible at all and that no one can predict perfectly when the insurgents will be wiped out completely.

Nigerians need to cooperate with the security agencies in stamping out this dreaded sect called boko haram, irrespective of your State of origin, state of residence, prompt and adequate information about them or suspicion will go a long way in intelligence gathering.

Boko haram members are not ghosts, they live and mingle with people of their communities as well. People should stop providing shields for them.

The reason for this wanton destruction and killings for now, no one knows, some claim that it is politically motivated, while some said it is religiously inclined....
The misery behind boko haram will soon be unraved, enough is enough!!

Conclusion

I call on all Nigerians not to be playing politics with everything, let's come together to arrest this ugly trend and stop this blame game.

Our security agencies should live up to expectation towards getting rids of these nuisance. Not all Fulani herdsman are criminals, but the bad eggs must be flushed out.

However, I must commend the swift reaction of the Nigerian Police towards the release of Chief Olu Falae, though one of his children claimed that ransom was paid but the goodnews is that ha has been released and that the kidnappers have been arrested and charged to court.

I posit that capital punishment should be placed on the crime of kidnapping, this will go a long way in discouraging the trending act. We have heard of some people faking their own kidnap.

It doesn't matter if you are Fulani, Ibo, Yoruba or Hausa, put Nigeria first. No tribe is free of miscreants, allow the law enforcement agents to do their job.
Unity of Nigeria cannot be negotiated.

Is Buhari Truly A Sectional Leader?

Is Buhari Truly A Sectional Leader?

Following the March 28th, 2015 general election that produced the incumbent President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, there have been series of claims in some quarters that President Muhammadu Buhari is a leader that believes in only a section of Nigeria.

This was one of the main issues of Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) campaign of calumny against his person then, that he is a religious bigot that only believes in Northern cum Muslim agenda.

The other issues of not having secondary school ordinary level (O'level) certificate and age cannot be forgotten so soon.

Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose who has always being an unrepented critic of Muhammadu Buhari even before the election has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari again.

Ayo Fayose released another time bomb last week when he described President Muhammadu Buhari as a 'Sectional Leader'. This was a sponteneous reaction to the appointment of the new chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Yakubu from Sokoto State.

According to his spokesperson, Mr. Lere Olayinka, the Special Adviser on News and Social Media, analysed the previous administrations as to the appointments of INEC Chairmen.

In his analysis, he even rated Late General Sani Abacha better than the incumbent President, President Muhammadu Buhari and that the position of INEC boss should have been given to someone from the Southern part of Nigeria.

He equally added that Nigeria has entered 'one chance bus' under the present administration. From the realist point of view, the claim by Mr Ayo Fayose can be said to be true to an extent because going through the people that President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed so far, Northerners are over 75%.

The struggle for the 'change' can be said to have started from the South, Lagos State was a major template for the All Progressives Congress' (APC) campaigns then.

Some of the appointments made so far are:
1. Aide de Camp to president: Lt. Col Abubakar Lawal, (Kano state, North-West and husband to President Buhari’s foster daughter).
2. Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the president: Femi Adesina, (Osun state, South-West).

The place of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari cannot be over-emphasized but what is heard of him now in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government presently?

At times I am amazed when I read comments of some Northern leaders castigating, rubbishing and insulting the person of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

If the South-West decided not to vote for All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election, President Muhammadu Buhari will not be in Aso Rock today.

I do not write this article to praise or blow Bola Tinubu's trumpet, he doesn't know if I'm existing or not but honour should be given to whom honour is due.

The drama that were acted in the two hallow chambers cannot be forgotten so soon, the drama that brought the present leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, where where Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara emerged as the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.

Before the critisized election, mock election should I refer to it as primary election was arranged and conducted by the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC)  which produced Senator Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as Senate President nominee and House of Representatives Speaker respectively.

But both Senate President Bukola Saraki and Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara flaunted the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC.
But till date, President Muhammadu Buhari has not come out to condemn the act of insolence by this two leaders.

Though I understand the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari  said if before the inauguration of the 8th parliament, that he was ready to work with who ever that emergies.

Moreover, his President Muhammadu Buhari’s inaugural speech of 'I belong to everybody and that I belong to nobody' can't be forgotten in a hurry.

Presently, the North controls both the executive and the legislative arm(Upper chamber and lower chamber) and the majority of those working directly with the president, you may reference the list above.

But President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to the loopsideness in his cabinet, in his words, 'I appointed those that I can't trust'. This implies that, he appointed them based on the fact that they can be trusted but we must face reality Nigeria has a population of over 150 millions and with three major ethnic groups, all the sections of Nigeria should be treated equally, there should be principle of egalitarianism in place.

Moreover, selecting a team of less than 2,000 from the population of over 150 millions should not pose as a threat nor daunting task. Every part of Nigeria is richly blessed with both human and natural resources.

I don't subscribe to the fact that the Southerns (South-East, South-West and South-South)  are all corrupt and that they don't have the locus standing to hold noble posts in this present administration.
Larger percentage of Nigerians irrespective of region worked for this present government's emergence.

Conclusion

Let me conclude by saying that the development of Nigeria is what is most paramont to me, if all the cabinet members of President Muhammadu Buhari and head of government and parastatals hails from Daura, Kastina State, the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria is better for it, no qualms.

But the principle of federal character should be respected as well, so as to prevent Nigeria from plunging into another round of avoidable civil war. Nigeria belongs to all.

Election Tribunals In Nigeria

Election Tribunals In Nigeria

Introduction

Election tribunals in Nigeria has been playing lofty roles in the sustainance of Nigeria's democracy.
Election tribunal is a kind of special court that has the authority in entertaining the litigation involving the conduct of elections.

Election tribunal is usually composed of justices with proven records. Their composition in most cases is five justices.
With Chairman and secretary of the chairman appointed. Chairman moderates the proceedings while secretary of the tribunal takes charge of all the correspondence.

Election process involves many stages with different organisations, both public and private agencies. electorates among others contributing their quotas. They must all work hand-in-hand in order to make the election a success.

The following are some of them:
(i) Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC):- INEC is saddled with the sole responsibility of conducting election in Nigeria as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria.

Going by this premise, it conducts and supervises all the electioneering matters. In short, all the processes that lead to a valid election, starting from primary elections (also known as shadow or monkey election) that are being conducted by the political parties, accreditation, voting, sorting, competition and  to the end of the process, that is announcement of results.

It recruits and trains all the staff needed for the election both its permanent and ad-hoc staff. INEC usually use the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as part of their ad-hoc staff due to the memorandum of understanding (MOU)  signed between them (INEC and NYSC).

The commission believes that NYSC has a crop of young and visionary youths that will do well in term of integrity and competency. This has been on for decades now.

The role of INEC in any election cannot be overemphasized, it supervises and controls all other organisations or outfits deployed for the election. Its statutory roles spread across the supervision of the primary election (otherwise known as shallow election), campaigns by all the political parties, prior to the election day.

But it is worthy of note to state that campaigns ends a day before the election and that INEC has the power to disqualify any party or candidate that flaunt any of its rules as embedded in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

Accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, computation and announcement of any result is usually done bt the INEC staff.

(ii) Political Parties:- Political party is a political association formed by a set of individuals with common interest which can be regarded as ideology.

Its primary aim is to wrestle power by fielding candidates that are sellable with good pedigree cum antecedents and in turn provide good governance to the electorates that vote them in.

Presently Nigeria has over registered political parties, among the notable once are Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), etc.

The leadership of each of  the parties has a list that contains all what they intend to do if voted, which is regarded as Party's Manifesto. This manifesto is a social bound between the parties and the electorates.

Political party has the statutory role of fielding candidates for any election from local government elections to presidential elections. It also has the power to conduct primary election (shallow election) for all the aspirants joistling for same position in the party under the supervision of INEC, so that there won't be rancour or division within the party.

The name of the winner of the party’s primary (shadow) election will then be sent to INEC and this must get to INEC within a time frame, otherwise, INEC will deny the party the privilege of fielding candidate for such election.

When in power, political party also supervises the way and manner by which the office holders under their party governs, this they do so that their manifestos are maintained and respected. It equally has cons and pros through which its members are checked.

But I need to quickly add that carpet-crossing (i. e moving from a party to another) is allowed and has not been criminalized. But as an office holder under a political party, if you decamp while in office, you may be removed from the office.

Using Honorable Ifedayo Abegunde ara Abena that represented Akure Federal Constituency as a case study. He was elected under the platform of Labour Party (LP) but left the party for All Progressives Congress (APC), an appeal court ruled against him and he was removed following the pronouncement of the court.

(iii) Security Outfits:- This involves all the security agents that normally provide logistics supports towards the success of an election.

Some of them are Nigerian Police Force (NPF),  Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, among others.

They all synergize towards having a successful election by maintaining law and order before, during and after the elections. They stand at strategic places and guide all the election materials both sensitive and non-sensitive materials and all the players in the election process. They also check the excesses of the touts and electorates after the announcement of election results.
They do try their best as to stopping miscreants from taking over or obstructing the electoral process.

(iv) Election Observers:- Election observers are people approved or accredited to observe the process of elections. They are governmental and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved in this.
We have both local and international observers.

They are to monitor the process but not to interfere in any of them. They move from one point to another during the election, after which they will come with a comprehensive report on the referenced election.

(v) Press:- The role of the pressmen cannot be over-emphasized, it gives adequate coverage and publicity to all the electioneering process. Campaigns are beamed over the television(TV), radio, internet, social media, etc.

It is now a known fact now that, social media (such as FacebookTwitter, Whatsapp, Blackberry Messenger (BBM), among others) have turned to the largest constituecy in Nigeria now.

It has helped some world leaders in winning elections, for instance, the current President of United States of America (USA), Barack Obama.

(vi) Electorates:- This refers to the group of would-be voters. After they must have listened to the campaigns and manifestos of the parties cum candidates, will then visit their point of registration (otherwise known as polling units or voting points)  on the election day to cast their votes for candidates of their choice under a very condusive atmosphere devoid of harassment and intimidation.

Electorates are the major stakeholder in the electoral process, because they will determine where the pendulum swings. If they decide not to cast their votes, What will the election Upper, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) count?

Concept of election tribunals in Nigeria

As stated in the introduction, that election tribunal is a special court that has jurisdiction to entertain only litigation that ensued after the election.

If after the election, you as a candidate or the party believes that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) didn't follow due process in the conduct of the election, as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. You can then approach the election tribunal to challenge the result that was declared by the electoral commission.

It is worthy of note to state as well that judiciary usually sets up this tribunal immediately after the election to give room for people that felt created in the conduct of the election  to seek redress.

But the case must be instituted at the election tribunal within a speculated period and we have had cases where election tribunals upturned the verdict of INEC elections, for instance, All Progressives Congress (APC) took over Edo State, Ekiti State, Osun State  through tribunal verdict and also Labour Party (LP) of Ondo State all from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) .

Though Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has regained Ekiti State back when the former governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of APC lost to the incumbent Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose of People Democratic Party (PDP) on June 16, 2014.

And also that the incumbent governor of Ondo State, Dr. Segun Mimiko who won the state of the state under Labour Party (LP) has decamped to People Democratic Party (PDP).

Election tribunals have also upheld a lot of elections in Nigeria, over 80% of elections conducted in Nigeria are usually challenged at the election tribunal.

In a latest development, tribunal sacked the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and 20 PDP assembly lawmakers in the state some days ago but ordered a re-run in the case of Akwa Ibom State.

Election tribunal has brought sanity to Nigerians electoral system but as it exists in the conventional courts, election tribunal usually based its judgement on facts that are available. The case must be proved beyond any reasonable doubt.

But it must be added that election tribunal's judgement can also be upturned by an appelate court such as the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court but the case of gubernatorial elections,  Senatorial elections and house of Representatives end at the Court of Appeal.

Summary

The way election tribunal judgements are being delivered at times, one may be tempted to ask if they follow the dictates of the power at the central, i.e Federal Government's influence.

When Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was rulling at the federal level, PDP won a lot of tribunal cases then but now that All Progressives Congress (APC) is rocking the boat, it is as if APC is winning much cases now at the election tribunals.

No wonder the National Caucus of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  called for an emergency meeting over this earlier this week, to discuss the tsunamic judgements against their party.

Conclusion

Court is seen as the last hope of the common man, so we expect the same policy to play out in the election tribunals all over Nigeria.
Judgement should be based on facts and evidences, not political influence. Election tribunals should not allow politicians to use them in settling their scores.
This will rekindle the hope that Nigerians have in the judiciary.

Appraisal Of Card Readers In 2015 General Elections In Nigeria

Appraisal Of Card Readers In 2015 General Elections In Nigeria

Introduction

2015 general elections in Nigeria has come and gone but the impacts on our electoral system, government and the entire populace cannot be forgotten so soon and will continue to have a prime spot in our anal of political history.

The general elections came with new innovations, among which was the use of Card Readers. Majority of Nigerians gave kudos to Professor Attairu Jega, the immediate past Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  Chairman on this initiative and this also received accolades from the international bodies and world powers.

Nigerian general elections since 1999 has witnessed a lot of electoral violence such as unrest, rigging, snatching of ballot boxes, just to list but few.

Concept of Card Readers

Card reader  is electronic gadget which can be likened to a smart phone but with special ability to read special cards and in this case 'Voters Cards'.
It has the ability to detect fake voters cards, confirm original voters cards and also compare the fingerprint on the voters card with fingerprint on the would-be voter, if valid, it will accredit him or her and if not, it will not.

It was very easy to use and has a Standby time of not less than 8 hours if fully charged.
It has been used in some countries before now and people attested to the fact that it brought much sanity to their electioneering, no wonder the immediate past Chairman of INEC, Professor Attairu Jega bent on using same even in the face of unmasked persecutions from the camp of those that had skeleton in their cupboards then or due to fear of unknown.

If Card readers will bring sanity to the polity and most especially the electioneering process, why would a right thinking man with the interest of the country at heart Kicks against it?
Though Nigeria's politics for now is politics of what I stand to gain (pocket/stomach politics)

Benefits of Card Readers

As I have stated in the introduction above, the introduction of Card readers really helped Nigeria during the last general elections not only that it reduces electoral frauds but also helped in cementing the dying unity among the citizenry.

The last election was adjudged to be one of the fairest elections Nigeria ever had after that of 1993 election that was claimed to have been won by late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (MKO).

Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) who was the standard bearer of Social Democratic Party (SDP) was said to have had majority of the lawful votes cast as against his opponent in NRC, Chief Tofa but the power that be then annulled the election due to its selfish reason and the bundle of this blame cannot but be traced to the then Head Of State, Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babangida (IBB).

The rest of what happened after the annulment of the said election is now history, but I'm using this medium to salute the innocent souls that went with the chaos that the ignoble unrest caused Nigeria.
May God console their respective families.

2015 General Elections was known to be the most competitive election in the history of Nigeria. The election came with a lot of intrigues and dirty politics from personal attacks to regional attacks.

The build up to the election was either to 'make or mar'  Nigeria. Nigerians even thought at that time that the prophecy of the United States (US)  will come into manisfetation, that Nigeria Will break up on or before her 100 years as a Nation.

We are all familiar with the marriage of inconviniency that Sir Lord Luggard did in 1914 that was known as Amalgamation. He brought Northern Protectorate and Southern Protectorate together as one.
It has been claimed in some quarters that Sir Lord Luggard's bringing Nigeria together as a country was experimental.

Though Nigeria as a country is divided along ethnic, religion and cultural beliefs, but it is still waxing strong.
Card readers made a larger percentage of Nigerians to have a bit of confidence in Independent National  Electoral Commission (INEC) and in the process.
International communities even gave kudos to INEC and Nigeria as a whole for the successful conduct of the general elections.

Though I don't posit that it was free and fair but was a clear achievement when compared to the previous ones. That majority was won not through ballots but guns.
Thanks to the election tribunals that upturned some of these elections.

May I quick to add that the role that the former president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) played by throwing the towel was historic
and should be commended.

That singular act of his was unafrican and selfless, he deserves kudos, no wonder he was  on the mission to supervise a general elections in Tanzania as international election observer.

Shortcoming of Card Readers

Nothing is too perfect without having one or two shortcomings, some of the difficulties faced during the use of the card readers are;

(a) Failure in capturing of fingerprintsIt was recorded that the card readers almost marred the elections in some areas but with swift responses of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials arrested  the situation before getting out of hands and when the machine couldn't be replaced, such elections were postponed till the next day.

But the arrangement of manual accreditation was a succur to the machine failures. Manual accreditation was performed for those that the card readers couldn't capture their fingerprints.
It implies that the accreditation were conducted for them manually, using forms instead of electronically with the use of card readers.

(b) Inadequate technical knowhow on the part of the handlers of the card reader machines: Fire Briggade approach to things should be discouraged. Some of this card readers handlers were trained in a day or so.
It was revealed that one of the reasons for this high level of machine failure was because the veils on the slot for fingerprints were not removed before using it.
That happened due to short time frame for the training.

Conclusion

Having analysed the contributions of card readers in the last general elections in Nigeria, it is my belief that the use of Card Readers In our elections has come to stay and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be encouraged by all and sundry so as to work on the loopholes recorded in the use of the card readers.

Backup should also be provided at standby for the card readers, so that the time frame for the election can still be met, even if their is a machine failure or malfunction.
More mock elections should also be encouraged. The world is now a digital world and Nigeria can't be different. Let us all support it.

Multiple Selection Of Institutions Now Enable In 2016/17 Jamb Registration

Multiple Selection Of Institutions Now Enable In 2016/17 Jamb Registration

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board
JAMB has said that it has made some modifications on the 2016/2017 registration as it concerns selection of Institutions by candidates.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the
board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the board has made provisions for “preferred choice” to give candidates opportunity of gaining admission.
In his words, “What we did initially was that you
only have one choice.

Now, we have made it in such a way that if you
miss the University of Lagos; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira , you will have an opportunity of going to another school.

Before, all universities will be in first and second
choice and that will not solve any problem.
We have now decided to put a few of those schools we feel will have more spaces as
more preferred.

Institutions placed on the more preferred choice
are those that are mostly not over subscribed.
This is because it will not make any sense if you place institutions like the ABU, UNILAG, OAU and UNN , when in actual sense they cannot
even admit one third of the candidates that will
choose them as most preferred.”

We therefore advise candidates to ensure they
visit accredited registration centres for registration where they will be properly guided on this new option and ask questions if the need clarification.

Woman Arrested For Locking Up A Husband And Rap*s Him For 29 Hours

Woman Charged With Cooping Husband Up, Raping Him

A 40-year-old woman has been charged with marital rape in the first indictment of its kind in South Korea.
The  woman, identified only as Shim, locked her partner, surnamed Kim, in their family house for 29 hours and forced him to have sex with her. Shim is believed to have been sexually abusing her husband in order to obtain exculpatory evidence for divorce procedures.

Wife For Sex With 2700 Men She has become the first woman in the country to be charged with spousal rape. Earlier this year, another woman was charged with attempted rape for drugging
her ex-boyfriend, tying him up and hitting with a hammer. However, she claimed she did not want to rape him.

Once widely condoned or ignored by law and society, marital rape is now opposed by many societies around the world, repudiated by international conventions, and
increasingly criminalized. Still, in many countries, marital rape either remains outside the law, or is illegal but widely tolerated, with the laws against it being rarely enforced.

What God Told Me Before The Elections - Father Mbaka

What God Told Me Before The Elections - Father Mbaka

Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Centre said before the general elections, God revealed to him that Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi would be the next governor of Enugu state.

Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka Speaking at a holy mass, which was part of activities to mark the beginning of Enugu state Judiciary legal year
held at Christ the King Parish, Enugu, the cleric urged Ugwuanyi to always remain close to God in all he does, Daily Sun reports.

He said: “ The first time I saw the governor, then he was in the National Assembly and I didn’t even know him. I greeted him and told him ‘you are going to be the governor of Enugu state.

“You need protection from heaven so that you will be able to actualize all the good plans you have for Enugu. Know that you are a prayer answered because Enugu made a lot
of noise about your election .”
Father Mbaka alleged that some judges in Enugu state were members of secret societies and they joined for protection and a successful career.

According to him, engaging in such activities would only incur the wrath of God on them.

“ If any of you is in any secret society, you had better come out of it before it is too late. You don’t need such things.
Those who join them never enjoy their last days. You are never protected.

“They may promise you favour but that comes from God alone. So, depend on Him because He is the Chief Judge.
“One thing with such secret societies is that they will never tell you what the end of it is like, they will show you the part you think is good but when you enter, you will be finished ,” the Rev Fr. stated.

The cleric charged the judges in the state to always dispense justice without fear or favour, saying, “Whatever you do in the court will come back to your family; if you are unjust in the court, maybe one day, one of your children will be jailed or even killed.”

Dignitaries present at the mass service were the Enugu deputy governor, Cecilia Ezeilo; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Ubosi; the Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice I. A. Umezulike; Senator Chukwuka Utazi, among others.

During the 2015 election campaign period, Father Mbaka was a constant torn in the flesh of immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan. He was one of Jonathan’s biggest critic. He also accused Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan of planning to assassinate him.

On the occasion of Mbaka’s 20th year of priesthood, President Muhammadu Buhari applauded him rising to the occasion and lending his voice in support of good governance and also identifying with ordinary Nigerians
in the face of despair and uncertain future.

He described the cleric as a great priest who is not afraid to speak the truth, even at the cost of his own life or being hated by those in power.

Election Tribunal Ruling: PDP Summons Emergency National Caucus

Election Tribunal Ruling: PDP Summons Emergency National Caucus Yesterday

Following the verdict of the 2015 governorship election petitions tribunal in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned an emergency meeting of the party’s national caucus.

PDP’s national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh
It will be be recalled that the election tribunal ordered the rerun of the governorship election in Rivers state while a similar tribunal ordered a re-run of the governorship election in 18 local governments in Akwa Ibom state.
PDP won the guber election in both state.

PDP’s national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh said the emergency caucus meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 29 will focus on the “current onslaught against the party and its candidates in the last general elections, by the APC-led Federal Government.”

“The national caucus meeting is in furtherance of the decision of the leadership of the party to fully activate its structures in stiff resistance to the manipulations, coercions
and threats of the APC-led government, and in line with the unbending determination by the party not to, in any way whatsoever surrender any mandate freely given it to by the people at any level across the country, no matter the pressure,” the statement added.

PDP had earlier described the verdict of the
governorship election tribunal in River and Akwa Ibom states as completely bizarre, unacceptable and part of the script by the APC to manipulate the will of the people.

The party’s governors had also called for a meeting to discuss the implications of the judgments to the survival of the former ruling party.

Meanwhile, Tonye Princewill, a candidate of the Labour Party in the April 11 governorship election, has advised Nyesom Wike not to appeal the judgment of the governorship tribunal.

The judgements given today by the relevant tribunals in Abuja is bound to compound the case of the governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, who was sacked last week by a tribunal under the same circumstances.

There are 32 state lawmakers in Rivers state with the election of 21 members nullified
the state assembly will no longer form a quorum as to continue to perform their legislative  function.

NCC Fines MTN 1 Trillion Naira For Failing To Disconnect Unregistered Subscribers

NCC fines MTN 1 trillion naira for failing to disconnect unregistered subscribers

Nigeria’s Communications Commission, the country’s telecommunications regulator, has issued mobile phone firm MTN Nigeria, with a 1 Trillion Naira (£3.5bn) fine for failing to disconnect subscribers with unregistered Sim cards bought before January 2012.

From that date anyone buying a SIM card in Nigeria has had to register it under their name by law.

Phone companies were told to register their existing customers’ SIM cards, which MTN Nigeria – the biggest telecommunications firm in Nigeria – has failed to do.

The fine is the largest in the history of telecom infringements in Nigeria and may redefine the relationships between telecommunications operators and the regulator.

Nigerians continue to complain about poor services from mobile network operators and blame the regulators for not doing enough to solve the problem.

A senior executive at MTN Nigeria tells me that the company will issue a statement on the fine later today.

Donald Trump Insults Africans says They Are Lazy And Only Good At Lovemaking And Violence

Donald Trump says Africans are lazy and only good at lovemaking and violence

AMERICA'S Republican Party presidential candidate Donald Trump has lashed out at Africans describing them as lazy fools who are only good at lovemaking and violence amid a
promise that he would deport millions of them.

Billionaire business magnate Mr Trump, who is seeking to become the Republican Party's flag bearer in next year's presidential elections, expressed his deep disgust for Africans over the weekend by referring to them as lazy fools only good at eating, lovemaking and thuggery.

Speaking in Indianapolis, he reiterated his promise to deport Africans especially those of Kenyan origin including their son Barack Obama if he becomes president.

Mr Trump said: “African-Americans are very lazy. The best they can do is gallivanting around ghettoes, lamenting how they are discriminated and these are the people America doesn’t need.

"They are the enemies of progress. Look at African countries like Kenya for instance, those people are stealing from their own government and go to invest the money in foreign countries."

He added that Americans cannot trust those who have ran away to hide in the US and he does not care if they abuse him. According to Mr Trump, even the internet they are using belongs to the US and America can decide to switch it off from this side.

"These are people who import everything including matchsticks and in my opinion, most of these African countries ought to be recolonised again for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and self
governance. I promise to make America great again by restoring our dignity that we have since lost through Obama.

"The more reason why I still believe that he and his Kenyan brothers and sisters should be deported back to Kenya to make America safe. From the government to the opposition, they only qualify to be used as a case study whenever bad examples are required," Mr Trump added.

His rant did not augur well with the fellow Republican candidate Carson Camp and his campaign team has since distanced itself from Mr Trump words. Mr Camp is aiming to become the first African-American Republican Party
presidential candidate.

Must Read: Shocking Revelation Of An Arrested Boko Haram Member, Says He Led The Gang That Robbed Two Banks In Owo, Ondo State Among Others

Read How Boko Haram Suspect Robbed Banks To Raise Money For Bombs

Following the arrest of some Boko Haram insurgents by operatives of the Special Intelligence Response Team (SIRT) , one of them has confessed  to robbing banks in order to raise the money they use to acquire the bombs they use on their suicide missions.

SIRT, an elite unit of the police set up by the Inspector General of police, Solomon Arase, arrested five suspects for being the brains behind the terrorising of the metropolis of the Federal Capital Territory.

During the operation several improvised explosive devices (IEDs), laptops, mechanical Engineering textbooks, 27 pieces of detonators, pH litmus paper, aluminium powder, number plates and IED materials were recovered from the suspects.

The suspects were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, October 22, on a five-count terrorism-related charge. The five of them are now being remanded in the Kuje prison on the orders of Justice Abdul Kafarati.

The suspects are Abdulazeez Muhazab, Ishaka Salihu, Mohammed Jimoh, Abdulwaheed Nasiru, aka Haulaki and Abdullahi Nasiru.
One of the suspects, Haulaki, who pleaded guilty to having IEDs stored in his house, told how he joined Boko Haram, saying he was indoctrinated in 2013 by a cleric named Mustapha.

The suspect, who hails from Kogi state, said: “I am married and my wife is currently pregnant. I rented an apartment close to a mosque and one of the sons of my landlord, Abubakar, who happened to be my friend had been killed during an operation, regularly went to that mosque and he was the one who introduced me to the Imam, Mustapha, who was in charge of the mosque.

“Mustapha is also in the custody of security agents and he was the one who indoctrinated me into Boko Haram group.
He would always tell me and some other persons to support the cause of Jihad in the North Eastern part of the country in any way we can and that when we cannot donate ourselves or money to the cause, we should at least pray for those waging the war.

“In some of his teachings, he told us that western
education was a sin and working for the government was also a sin. He then asked those who have gone through secondary and university education to destroy their certificate.

A lot of people, who were graduates from the
secondary schools and universities in that mosque, destroyed their certificates. And that singular gesture endeared me to that sect.

“These men were highly devoted to the cause and they told me that they usually rob unbelievers and use the money to support the cause. Abu Hamza is our leader and also one
of the bomb manufacturer. He was the one who led us to rob two banks in Owo, Ondo State and Okene in Kogi state, and it is through that means that he raised money for bomb materials and others.

“He was the one who also taught Usman how to make the bombs. I am a very good driver and my duty is to drive vehicles to various destinations. I usually don’t ask if there is bomb in those vehicles or not. All I do is to follow
instruction,” he added.

Operations In Nigeria Haulaki, explaining how he was arrested, said following the arrest of Hamza and another member of the terrorist
group a few months ago, senior members of the group told him to move all the ready-made bombs and other materials to the house of his brother, who is also a Boko member, in Iddo area of the FCT.

“I also gave two Ak-47 rifles and some bombs to a senior member, Abu Hussien, who took them to Okene, Kogi state. Few days before the last sallah some vigilante men arrested and handed me over to the military intelligence who detained and later handed me over to the police special team. I regret joining the Boko Haram sect,” he lamented.

More that 27 people have been confirmed dead and 96 others injured following a suicide bomb attack at a mosque in Maiduguri , and another attack in a mosque in Jimeta area of Yola, the Adamawa state capital.
The explosions happened as worshippers were
observing the weekly Jumaat service.

Update: Nyesom Wike Sacked As Rivers Governor, Orders Re-run, Wike Sets To Appeal The Judgement

Nyesom Wike sacked as Rivers State Governor, Orders Re-run, Wike Sets To Appeal

Wike Taking The Oat As Governor

The Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal on Saturday, 24th of October sacked Nyesom Wike as the Governor of Rivers State.

The tribunal, which delivered its ruling in Abuja on Saturday, also ordered that a fresh governorship election be conducted in the state.

The petition challenging the election of Mr. Wike as Rivers State Governor was filed by Dakuku Peterside, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election.

The Rivers governorship election, which was criticised by local and international observers, witnessed the largest amount of violence both in its build-up and after the elections.

In the mean time, the sacked Governor, Nyesom Wike has reacted to the judgement, says he will appeal it.
If appelate court will affirm or upturn this judgement, time will surely tell.
