News: Messi faces two-month injury layoff, Madrid held by Malaga

Lionel Messi will be out for up to eight weeks
with knee ligament damage suffered as
Barcelona returned to the top of La Liga table
with a 2-1 win over Las Palmas on Saturday.
Barca’s troubles were eased, though, as Real
Madrid remain a point behind the Catalans
after being held 0-0 at home by 10-man
Malaga.

Luis Suarez struck twice to ensure no more
damage was done to Barca’s title chances, but
the hosts were left hanging on after Jonathan
Viera’s deflected effort three minutes from
time halved the deficit.
“Firstly, it is always sad when a player gets
injured. It is without doubt the worst thing in
football for the players,” said Barca boss Luis
Enrique.

“Obviously, when it is Leo Messi even more so
for the weight he carries amongst our group.
“It is logical in football that players will get
injured and we have to know how to
overcome it. I am sure we will perform at a
good level.”

Barca had been humiliated 4-1 at Celta Vigo in
midweek and hopes of a trouble-free
afternoon were ended after just 10 minutes
when Messi injured his left knee in a clash
with Pedro Bigas.
Messi, 28, was injured as he tried to turn the
ball home after taking a wonderful first touch
inside the area.
The four-time World Player of the Year briefly
returned to the field after receiving treatment,
but was clearly unable to run freely before he
was replaced by Munir El Haddadi.

“Tests have confirmed that Leo Messi suffered
a torn internal collateral knee ligament. The
estimated time out will be seven to eight
weeks,” Barcelona said in a statement.
Suarez opened the scoring on 25 minutes as he
rose to head home Sergi Roberto’s inch-
perfect cross from the right to settle Barca’s
nerves.

Barca made sure of a return to winning ways
thanks to a wonderful team move seven
minutes after the break as Neymar picked out
Munir and his cross was left by Sergio
Busquets for Suarez to fire into the top corner.
Suarez was involved once more as his trickery
forced former Everton defender Antolin
Alcaraz into handling inside the area.

The Uruguayan unselfishly gave up the chance
of netting a hat-trick to allow Neymar to take
responsibility from the spot, but he blasted
over.
Barca were then forced to see out a nervous
last few minutes as Las Palmas took advantage
of an error from Javier Mascherano to pull a
goal back as Viera’s shot deflected in off
Gerard Pique.

At the Bernabeu, Madrid failed to move back
to the top of the table as they were denied by
an inspired display from Malaga goalkeeper
Carlos Kameni.
“Football has these type of things. You
dominate a large part of the game, create
loads of chances, but if you aren’t clinical you
end up drawing 0-0,” said Madrid boss Rafael
Benitez.
“I think we created enough chances to score
and take the three points.”

Cristiano Ronaldo had an early goal ruled out
for offside before Kameni got down well to
twice turn efforts from Jese Rodriguez behind.
Madrid launched wave upon wave of attack
towards the Malaga goal, but were repelled by
Kameni as he made an incredible save to deny
a fiercely struck volley from Ronaldo as his
wait to become the club’s all-time leading
scorer continued.

Malaga also had their chances to win the
game, though, as Keylor Navas produced a
stunning save from Juan Carlos’s free-kick,
whilst Nordin Amrabat fired wide with just
Navas to beat.
Captain Weligton deflected a goalbound
header from Ronaldo wide and cleared off the
line when Isco had squeezed a shot past
Kameni.

However, Madrid claimed the ball had crossed
the line before the Brazilian hooked the ball to
safety and there was another controversial call
seconds later as Amrabat was shown a straight
red card for an elbow on Marcelo.
Ronaldo had one final chance to snatch all
three points at the death, but his header from
point-blank range flew over as the hosts were
left frustrated.

News: Bola Tinubu Breaks Silence On Bukola Saraki's Ordeal

Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state and National leader of the All progressives Congress (APC), has finally reacted to the ongoing trial of the Senate
president Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct Tribunal
(CCT).

Bola Tinubu has reacted to Saraki’s case.
Tinubu said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government cannot overlook certain things in its fight against corruption.

However, ex-governor, speaking after activities for the Eid-il-Kabir celebration at Dodan Barracks, has asked Nigerians to often put God and the nation first in their daily activities.
“What is missing in Nigeria is lack of patriotism, dedication to God and to our people ,” he said.
Tinubu said that the ongoing anti-corruption warembarked upon by the president will further reinforce Nigeria’s institutions and fast track development.

This came two days after Senate president shown up before the tribunal in Abuja on September 22, pleaded not guilty of the charges leveled against him.
According to the ex-governor: “ It is part of nation’s development. We cannot overlook a lot of things. And we cannot personalise a lot of things as if it was vendetta. We have to endure and be patient as we look for justice, e quite and a balanced society.”

“If we do not strengthened these institutions, how can they work for the development of the nation? If we fail and result to blackmail, how can the nation reverse the decadence that is perceived in our society?”
Tinubu lamented that citizens often denigrate public officer as one who mismanage public funds allocated to his office.

The APC leader said: “ Government officials are no longer believed by the citizens. When one has a public responsibility, the citizens look at it as if the source of wealth to steal and mismanage public funds and do things not included in the democratic norms and values.
‘We have to live by example and by our words. We can be talking about it alone. We have to work it without any iota of blackmail.”
Tinubu reminded how he went through such trial and was later discharged and acquainted, saying: “ It is not what I haven’t personally experienced.”

“I have been through it. The second week I left office, I was invited by Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.
I went there and answered their questions. Later, I took them to court and I won.
“Some years back, after they discovered that my asset declaration had some questions, they claim. It is only then I accused the government of being selective.”
The APC leader stated that the country had over came some problems but to avoid a repeat of such, Nigerians must put the nation first and do the right thing.
He added: “ Yearly, we talk about sacrificecharged me to the
tribunal. I went and challenged them to show proof. I was later discharged and acquainted because there was no evidence to prove their s and perseverance of people.

If we want people to persevere, from the top to the bottom, we have to demonstrate as leaders that we are very serious about nation building too.
“Our leaders should look compassionately at the sufferring masses and create the demand locally and diversify our economy. Go through it at once and have a nation that we will all be proud of. Develop citizenship that will be blind to tribe or ethnicity but believe in character.
“It is worrisome that when we meet ourselves outside the country, we embrace one another but immediately we arrive
in this country, we revert to ethnicity, tribalism and others.
We have to develop a new character and new nation.
“Every day we talk about the potential of this country but where are we, when one looks at a country like India, they don’t have oil but they were able to build an economy for themselves that is thriving today and creating employ meet for the youths.

“We want everything free but we have not put emphasis on
the training of our youths and retraining of our teachers to put education in forefront of investment that is necessary for this country.
“We still believe that education is the weapon against poverty. And to achieve it, we have to rededicate ourselves and make those sacrifices in order to lift the country out of poverty ,” Tinubu added.

There had been speculations that former Lagos governor was standing behind the trial of Saraki. Tinubu has supposedly walked out a pro-Saraki senator a South-West caucus meeting.
When Saraki became the Senate president ex-governor vowed not to recognize him. Tinubu stated categorically that as far as he was concerned, Saraki’s emergence did not reflect the mandate of the APC party.

MUST READ: 7 ways through which NOLLYWOOD misleads Nigerians

How Nollywood misleads Nigerians

I write this article to bring to our notice the damaging effects of home videos, theatre, musicals and cinemas that we do watch.
Before I proceed, I will like to explain what Nollywood means for my International readers. Nollywood is the name given to the world of our entertainment in Nigeria where films and musicals are produced as Hollywood and Bollywood are to America and India respectively.

The ways are;
1. Mistrust in partnership

If you are a staunch follower of our movies in Nigeria, you will agree with me that over 90% of films where partnership takes place between or among friends usually ends in a sorry state.
I'm bold to state categorically that not everyone is having a bad intention when going into partnership.

Majority of all these International brands are product of this. However, if you have the intention of embarking on this, feel free but you must know your intending partner to well and you should not give emotion a place when taking such decision.
I believe you know what I mean, #wink. Business and emotion should not be combined if you want to have a prospect in business.

2. When you are handsome/beautiful, you are evil
This is another point that is annoying, a cast that is handsome/beautiful in a movie is always cruel and treats people inhumanly and with disdain.
Please don't misquote me, because everyone is wonderfully made, don't get it twisted.

So back to my point, for the fact that you are good looking is not a pointer that you will be wicked. This has affected majority of we youths, a friend once told me that he cannot marry a beautiful and flashy girl because they are always possessed of one evil spirit or another.

3. If you are well-mannered, you will be rich even if you don't work

This point is hilarious but it is true. It is a common saying that life is not always a bird of roses.  Though I'm not against the fact that it is good to have good character but there is more to that.
If one relies on this type of movie and apply it in the real life scenario, hmmmmmmm, you may guess what the end may look like, if at all you are not a prophet. LOL
Even our Holy Bible supports that we must work and it is from it that we will be making our living. You need proof? Check the book of Genesis. It is my believe that something similar will be in the Holy Quran.

4. Life is all about taking revenge

This is another important point, life is not all about taking revenge of every evil things done to us. In our movies, even dead people of many years will be moving around taking revenge but the funny part of it is that, the ghosts will be calculating traffic before crossing the road. #chuckles
In the Holy Bible, it is written that when enemy shows up, God will raise a standard against them. It means that enemy are there to help us to raise our games.

For instance, if you are a good typist, you can type many words in a minute using a typewriter and people see you as a champion. When you now have someone that uses a Computer to type (typesetting) with a lot of graphics, with ease and also with speed in your area.
You will be seeing the person as your enemy, whereas what you should see there is a challenge, so that you can step up from being a local champion and learn new skills.
Remember that we learn always and the moment you stop learning, that is when you die!
5. When husband dies, the wife will be ejected out of the house

This point is one of the reasons why some of our ladies are having issues settling down and also in their matrimonial home.
Some will not like to have mother-in-law, because Nollywood has brainwashed them to the level that all mother-in-law it a treat and also a time bomb.

This is why most of them will prefer to live a pattern of "me and my husband". This is against the believe of we Africans, because when marriage is arranged, it is not only between the bride and the groom but also among the two family members.
So to avoid such crises, make sure that marriage rites are performed on you before you leave your father's house (to ladies)  and to we men, we should endeavour to write our WILLS. writing wills doesn't mean that we are inviting death.

6. When you are truly in love, you must suffer heartbreak

This is for the love birds, for real it is a good thing to be in love and i must state that love is magical.
Every lover should believe that life itself is a risk, so you should have that at the back of your mind. But believe in the principles guiding relationship for a long lasting one but never be a pessimist as to what will be the end of it. #What you profess is what you receive.
Remember that people get married almost every weekend. If you have been checking through your spouse, fiance or fiancee's phone before now, I beg of you, stop it because we all have our secrets and there is this common saying, #if you have not heard, you can't be hurt.

7. To be wealthy, you must do rituals

There are many Godly ways through which one can be wealthy without involving in any ritual. Some of these are; you must be prayerful, hardworking, industrious, diligent, consistent and also by believing in what you think you can do.
Say no to vices because they cut short lives, be good to people around you. If you decide to be pressing on people's head when going up, who knows may be you will need their help when coming down.

In conclusion, it will be a sin to the unborn generation if I don't state the good job that our films and movies industry popularly known as Nollywood is doing in our lives.
It showcases the rots and social ills cum vices within the society.
Thumbs up for them!

I will like to hear your views on this, if it is beneficial, why not making use of the share button to educate your friends.
Thanks

News: German Chancellor Angela Merkel To Visit India Next Week

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit
India next week, the Indian foreign ministry
said Wednesday, as the two countries seek to
bolster trade and bilateral ties.
Germany has been keen on expanding trade
cooperation with India, one of the world’s
fastest-growing economies, and a number of
agreements are likely to be signed during
Merkel’s visit in the first week of October.

Indian foreign ministry spokesman Vikas
Swarup confirmed the visit AFP but said the
exact dates and the agenda would be
announced at a later date.
Local media reports said the possibility of
resuming the stalled India-EU Free Trade
Agreement negotiations was being worked on
by both sides.
India and the 27-member EU have been in
negotiations over the market-opening pact
since June 2007 to boost bilateral commerce.
But progress has since been stymied by
differences over intellectual property rights
and efforts by EU to link trade with
environmental issues and India’s social sector
performance in areas such as child labour.
Merkel last visited India in 2011 and met
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Germany in
April this year.
Germany is India’s largest trading partner in
Europe, with bilateral trade in 2014 valued at
15.96 billion euros.

Opinion: Re-introduction Of Levies In Our Schools

Re-introduction Of Levies In Our Schools

I write to condemn in totality the recent re-introduction of levels in our primary and secondary Schools by some of our governors. It is a common saying that basic education is compulsory and implementing this unfriendly policy may deny some of our vibrant children from poor background access to education, thereby exposing them to social vices, which in turn post as a threat to the stability of the community and the country at larger.

The most annoying scenario is that majority of the people that came about this ignoble and rash decision benefitted from the free education and condusive environment for learning during their time.
We all celebrate till date the late sage, chief Obafemi Awolowo due to the indelible strides he made as to making sure that all children of school age went to school.

We need to get our priorities right. The flimsy excuse that students fail in general examinations due to because they don't pay for it is not tenable. They should employ qualified teachers, do on-the-job trainings for the teachers and also embark on proper monitoring of the teachers and students, with this the falling standard of education will be a thing of the past.

Let us all rise and checkmate the excesses of these Pharaoh-like leaders and make them realise that power indeed resides with the people.
Better Nigeria is possible, the onus lies on us all.

News: NANS Divided Over Saraki!!

News: NANS Divided Over Saraki!!!

The southwest zone (“Zone D”), south south and
southeast zone (“Zone B”), the north (“Zone A”)
and the Office of the Vice President , External
Affairs of the of the National Association of
Nigerian Students have distanced themselves from the
leadership of its national body that recently issued a
statement voicing support for embattled Senate President,
Bukola Saraki, who is facing trial for corruption.
NANS President, Tijani Usman
In a statement released today and signed by Okikiola
Ogunsola, its coordinator, the southwest zone of NANS
declared that, despite its respect for the national leadership,
the zone “would not in any way subject ourselves to any act
by our national body that tends to undermine or coerce [the]
rule of law.”
Mr. Ogunsola, a student at Tai Solarin University of
Education, added that the southwest zone of NANS wished
to state “in strong term that our zone is not in support of
the planned protest by the civil society group under the
aegis of Heritage Center and NANS.”
He recalled that NANS as a collective group recently pledged
its support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s
administration in its fight against crime and corruption.
According to his statement, “our position is that any
individual or group charged or alleged to have participated
directly or indirectly in misappropriation, mismanagement or
[acquisition of] properties in [an] unlawful manner should
submit to rule of law to take effect.
“We believe that [the] rule of law needs to be respected, and
we Nigerian students are watching with clear interest how
the present administration is handling its fight against
corruption.”
Mr. Ogunsola’s statement recalled that the Code of Conduct
Tribunal had tried several people during the administration
of former President Goodluck Jonathan, noting that those
found innocent were discharged.
“The planned protest on the basis that [the] alleged
falsification in the Senate President’s asset declaration was
politically motivated or an act to witch-hunt him is
baseless,” he wrote in a statement.
The statement concluded that members of the southwest
zone of NANS “dissociate ourselves from this act and call
on the Federal Government, agencies concerned and
individuals to allow justice to prevail. And [we] equally urge
the Senate President Bukola Saraki to honor the rule of law
for sustainability of our country’s democracy.”
Apart from the “Zone D”, the vice president of External
Affairs at NANS, Ogunkuade Oluwatosin also rejected the
planned solidarity march for Saraki that had been planned
by the President of NANS, Tijani Usman, in conjunction with
the Director-General of the Heritage Center, Dr. Katch
Ononuju.
Other student groups who renounced the solidarity march
includes the Coordinator of NANS “Zone B”, Comrade
Okorie Ikechukwu,Secretary General of NANS “Zone A”,
Comrade Ibrahim A Ibrahim and Comrade Shettima Umar,
President of the National Union of Borno State Students
( "NUBOSS).
They all condemned the President of NANS for siding with
corruption and vowed to resist any attempt to drag NANS
into Mr. Saraki's desire to subvert the rule of law.
