Opinion: Re-introduction Of Levies In Our Schools

Re-introduction Of Levies In Our Schools

I write to condemn in totality the recent re-introduction of levels in our primary and secondary Schools by some of our governors. It is a common saying that basic education is compulsory and implementing this unfriendly policy may deny some of our vibrant children from poor background access to education, thereby exposing them to social vices, which in turn post as a threat to the stability of the community and the country at larger.

The most annoying scenario is that majority of the people that came about this ignoble and rash decision benefitted from the free education and condusive environment for learning during their time.
We all celebrate till date the late sage, chief Obafemi Awolowo due to the indelible strides he made as to making sure that all children of school age went to school.

We need to get our priorities right. The flimsy excuse that students fail in general examinations due to because they don't pay for it is not tenable. They should employ qualified teachers, do on-the-job trainings for the teachers and also embark on proper monitoring of the teachers and students, with this the falling standard of education will be a thing of the past.

Let us all rise and checkmate the excesses of these Pharaoh-like leaders and make them realise that power indeed resides with the people.
Better Nigeria is possible, the onus lies on us all.
