Arase Releases Bombshell, Says 317,000 Police Officers Can’t Secure 170m Nigerians

IGP Solomon Arase
IGP Solomon Arase
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has said the numerical strength of 317,000 of the Nigerian Police is not enough to effectively secure the country’s geographical space hosting over 170 million of its populace.

However, he said the Nigerian Police is leveraging on the deployment of modern technology to fight crimes.“Since I came on board as IGP, I have tried to migrate from analogue to digital technology,” he said, adding that that is the best way the modern police force can go.

Meanwhile, the Police and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have concluded arrangement to constitute a team within the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to brainstorm on the various telecommunication laws and how to apply them for prosecution of offenders found contravening the provision of the Criminal Justice Miscellaneous Provisions Act, CAP C39 2004.

The IGP said: “In fighting crime you must be able to put the police on a technological platform that will be able to match the effectiveness and sophistication of criminals, wherever they are.“Our numeric strength is not enough to police the country’s security space.

We are just 317,000 officers and there is no way we can be everywhere.”Arase made the disclosure weekend while hosting the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta, in his office in Abuja.

Ekiti Assembly Condemns DSS' Invasion Of Its Complex, Describes It As Barbaric

Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly has condemned in  totality the invasion of its hallow chamber by the men of the Department of State Services (DSS).

This was made known during the press conference, which was spearheaded by the Speaker of the House in presence of other honorable members.

I bring to you the full text of the press conference:

"BEING FULL TEXT OF THE PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED ON SATURDAY, MARCH 5, 2016  BY THE SPEAKER & MEMBERS OF THE EKITI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ON THE INVASION OF THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY BY ARMED MEN OF DSS ON FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2016

Gentlemen of the Press,

We have called you here to intimate the public through your various medium, the clandestine plot by the President Mohammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government to destabilise the Ekiti State Government, using the instrumentalities of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Yesterday, the House of Assembly Chamber was invaded by armed men of the DSS.

Not minding that various committees of the House were meeting, more than 10 DSS men who were armed to the teeth invaded the Assembly Complex, shooting sporadically into the air, thereby causing panic among members and staff of the House of Assembly, who had to scamper for safety.

At the end of the commotion created by this barbaric act, we discovered that four of our members could not be found.

It was only this morning that we were able to establish that Hon Afolabi Akanni, representing Efon Constituency was abducted and taken to Abuja. Whereabouts of three other members is still unknown as we speak, and reasons for the invasion and abduction of our members are not known.

However, we got it on good authority that the script now being acted by the DSS is part of the APC and President Buhari’s clandestine plot to cripple the Ekiti State Government by arresting and detaining top functionaries of the government.

The plot is to harass, intimidate and embarrass top officials of the Ayodele Fayose government because of his critical stance on the Buhari’s government.

We are aware that 18 of our members have been pencilled down for harassment and the game plan is to harass them to submission, with a view to coercing them into signing an already prepared notice of impeachment of the governor and his deputy.

However, we wish to inform those orchestrating the harassment and intimidation of officials of the Ekiti State Government, especially honourable members of the State House of Assembly that this is 2016 and not 2006. The same tactics used 10 years ago to truncate democracy in Ekiti State will not work this time.

We therefore wish to tell the APC agents of political instability that this time around, this House of Assembly will not be available for any ungodly use.

We also wish to remind Nigerians of how in September last year, the Federal Government invaded the Akwa Ibom State Government House with armed men of the Department of State Security (DSS).

Up till today, Nigerians are yet to be told officially why, in a Federal system of government in which federating units enjoy some degree of autonomy, the Government House occupied by a Governor who enjoys the same immunity enjoys by the President as provided by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was invaded by armed men of the DSS.

While we are not afraid of persecution from anyone or government agency, including the DSS, we wish to state that the level at which the Buhari-led Federal Government is taking political vendetta and muzzling of opposition both in the Peoples Democratic Party and within the APC is dangerous to the survival of democracy in the country.

Nigeria is not a banana republic that can be ruled anyhow by anyone and Mr Lawal Daura (from Katsina) and his men, who are playing exactly the same role played between 1984 and 1985 by the National Security Organisation (NSO) under Lawal Rafindadi (from Katsina) should know that this reign of brute force over constitutional democracy will fail.

This is because we have seen them operate before and here they are now, trying to take us back to that inglorious era of dictatorship and barbarism where the DSS (then NSO) was used to oppress Nigerians, throwing them in jail without trial. This time around, we are in a democracy that can never accommodate that 1984 era of draconian rule.

Lastly, let it be reiterated once again that this House of Assembly is a partner in the progress of the Ekiti State government under the able leadership of Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose. Therefore, the Abuja based agents of destabilisation should get it into their heads that we will never be harassed or intimidated into buying into their sinister agenda.

Thank you, and God bless". It ended.

DSP In Trouble OVER Marked N24,000 Bribe, Faces Dismissal

A Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. David Ekong, of the Cross River State Police Command and some of hissubordinates are currently facing orderly room trial over N24, 000 marked money prepared by an Assistant Inspector General as part of bribery demanded from one Mr. Ottobong Inyang.

Ekong and his team had unlawfully arrested and detained Inyang and demanded N250, 000 as bribe for his bail.It was learnt on Friday that Inyang was arrested on February 19 and detained at the state Police Command headquarters in Calabar but was released on February 21 after paying N50, 000 to Ekong.

It was gathered that Inyang was arrested for alleged armed robbery and car theft shortly after he bought a Volkswagen Passat from a car shop along IBB Way by Eta-Agbor roundabout in Calabar.

The police, had on arrest, claimed that the car was stolen during a robbery but the date and scene of the incident were not disclosed.

As if it was a set up, it was learnt that the car dealer, who was arrested alongside Inyang to the police headquarters, was not detained.

Inyang was coerced while in detention to pay N250, 000 for his release, but at the long run, he agreed to payN100, 000.

He was able to deposit N50, 000 before he secured his freedom on February 21 but was asked to bring the balance by February 22 or he would be rearrested.

However, Inyang immediately got a legal team that approached the AIG in charge of Zone Six, Mr. Adisa Bolanta, to formally lay the complaints.AdvertisementA source, Mr. Omini Bassey, said while in the AIG’s office, Ekong kept calling for the balance and instructed Inyang to bring the money to Watt Market area of Calabar South.

“While still in the AIG’s office, a follow-up call came from one Agu (a corporal) who said he had instruction from Ekong to collect the N24, 000 balance from him. He said he was already waiting at Watt Market,” Bassey said.

At that point, the source disclosed that the AIG marked N24, 000 himself and gave it as part of the balance to be handed to Ekong.“

The AIG also put detectives on the trail of Ekong and his accomplices. The money was eventually delivered to Agu and soon after, the detectives swooped on him and arrested him with the balance in his pocket,” he added.

It was learnt that Ekong was subsequently picked up from his beat along with others who participated in the bribery deal. The AIG, it was reliably gathered, had ordered an orderly room trial and dismissal of the affected policemen if found guilty. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Eluu, said he was not aware of the matter.

But the Zone Six Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nwibani Baritoge, said the orderly trial was currently ongoing to determine the fate of those involved.“I am aware of the case. An orderly room trial is on to determine their fate,” he said.

An insider who spoke to The Cable said:“The Sokoto State Human Rights Commission, along with the team set up by the police, questioned suspects and detained three persons in connection with the issue.”Some hisbah (Sharia police) personnel had taken Patience to an imam in Runjin Sambo area of Sokoto with a claim that she wanted to convert to Islam.”

The imam asked of her age and was told she was 14. He was also instructed to let her go, but the Imam then informed the hisbah.Rather than let her return to her family house, they took her to the Sarkin Baki who claims he provides residence to indigent persons.

The brother of the abducted teenager identified asTsembelee Daniel Sorkaa raised the alarm on Facebook about her disappearance, but it did not gain traction until the case of Oruru started playing out.

Her father Adaji, an Idoma from Benue state, said his daughter was forcefully abducted by hisbah inGidan Kukah, Runjin Sambo area Sokoto, on August 12, 2015.

Abducted school girls: Mother of Deborah Akinayo slumps, hospitalised after dry fasting

Deborah Akinayo’s mother, collapse after four days of dry fasting she embarked upon for God to intervene in the abduction of her daughter, the Nation reports.

It would be recalled that Timilehin Olosa, Tofunmi Popoolaniyan and Deborah Akinayo were abducted on Monday night by a 10-man gang who reportedly entered the school compound through a gaping hole in the school’s fence.

The kidnappers had also insisted on a N10 million ransom, despite pleas by the woman’s family, who it was learnt have raised a million naira.

According to reports, the woman’s health took a twist after the girls were not freed yesterday morning as allegedly expected. She was said to have placed much hope in pledges by security agencies to rescue them yesterday.

A source said, “The woman had high hopes that the girls would be rescued last night but when the kidnappers insisted on N10million, the woman whose family has raised a million Naira collapsed.“She was rushed to a hospital on the mainland where they live.

She was hospitalised but much later, she returned home yesterday.”The source added that she had also been fasting since the girls were kidnapped, adding that the kidnappers are still insisting on N10 million and they have refused all pleas to accept the one million Naira the family has raised.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police said she was not aware of the collapse.

“That information is not at my disposal, but the police has intensified their efforts to rescue the girls and we are hopeful the girls would soon be reunited with their loved ones,” the spokesperson said.

Robert Mugabe, 92, Threatens To Punch Interviewer To Prove A Point (See Why)

President Robert Mugabe
President Robert Mugabe
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has threatened to punch an interviewer who asked him about his retirement plans.

Speaking on state television, Mr Mugabe responded testily after the journalist quizzed him about a potential successor.

"Why 'successor' when I am still there?" the 92-year-old said in the interview."Why do you want a successor?

Do you want me to punch you to the floor to realise I am still there?" he added, clenching his fist.

Mugabe has led Zimbabwe since the country was formed in 1980 from the ashes of white-ruled Rhodesia.

He says he has no plans to hand over power and ruled out coaching his politically ambitious wife, Grace, as his chosen successor.

"Grooming a successor, is it an inheritance?" he asked.

"In a democratic party you don't want leaders appointed that way. They have to be appointed properly by the people. Succession is not part of our culture."

Mugabe turned 92 on 21 February, amid fierce squabbling in the ruling ZANU-PF party in anticipation of his rule coming to an end.

Opinion: Two reasons why you should drop your campaign of 'calumny' against this innocent policeman:

1. He gave out his gun to a 'trusted' friend to pose with it. This he did WITHOUT the 'CARTRIDGE'. Without the cartridge, a gun is a refined 'statue'.
Look at it the picture very well.

2. He wasn't a fool by given out a loaded gun. He was just a friendly, humane and polished police officers.

We will derive no pleasure in making this man jobless. He committed no crime!!!

RE: Gov Oshiomhole Slams Dino Melaye, Says He Is A Lunatic Without A Matrimonial Life

Governor Adams Oshiomhole
Adams Oshiomhole, governor of Edo state, has criticised Dino Melaye for being so “hollow” as to delve into his matrimonial life despite failing to keep one of his own.
While making his contribution on Wednesday to the debate on a motion regarding the need for Nigerians to patronise made-in-Nigeria goods, Melaye had said: “I want to celebrate the made-in-Nigeria senator for bringing this motion. In considering the made-in-Nigeria goods, we must look at enabling factors that will necessitate the made in Nigeria goods.

“It’s beyond having one made-in-Nigeria attire and you have over 70 Tom Fords and Louis Vuitton in your wardrobe. We must reduce the allocation for made-in-Nigeria goods and services to the basics. “What are those factors militating against the production of these goods? We must tackle them. We must also begin to look at our legislation then we will begin to talk about made-in-Nigeria goods.

“We will also move in order to encourage the made-in-Nigeria products in Nigeria, begin to talk about made-in-Nigeria women. Apologies to my uncle, the governor of Edo state, we must, as a people, stop paying dowry in dollars and pounds. It is time for my colleagues here to become born again.” Displeased with the comments, Oshimohole replied on Friday, saying Melaye “only displayed his hollowness” by delving into a matter as private as his marriage to his heartthrob.

“Our attention has been drawn to the unprovoked verbal assault launched by one Senator Dino Melaye on the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, while making a contribution on the floor of the Senate on the need to patronize made-in-Nigeria goods,” Oshiomhole said in a statement by Peter Okhiria, his chief press secretary.

“As a ‘nephew’ of the Governor and members of the same party, we expected Senator Melaye to tender an unreserved public apology to the Comrade Governor, to no avail. “It is an open secret that Senator Melaye cannot maintain a decent matrimonial home hence he could descend to this pedestrian level of using the hallowed chambers to ‘cargorise’ women as if they were pieces of items for purchase. Any responsible individual that is truly worth to be called a Senator, a position that convokes respect, decorum and decent public conduct, should know the limits of his verbal diarrhoea.

“The liberty of free speech guaranteed in the hallowed chambers does not impose lunacy on anyone to disparage other Nigerians, let alone pry into their matrimony in a very derisive manner.

We had intended to ignore this uncomplimentary comment as one of the several empty displays of the Senator, but the fact that it tends to reduce women to pieces of tissue calls for this response. “As we probed into Dino Melaye’s humanity, we were reminded that he is a man known for his vainglorious rodomontade and the childish display of his ostentatious lifestyle complements his love for foreign items.

Many of such eurocentric mentality he has persistently displayed on social media, to underscore his materialistic eccentricity, hence his dialectical opposition to made-in-Nigeria goods.

“But an attempt at making women wear the garb of goods to be picked off the shelves was to take the issue to a ridiculous and irresponsible level. By delving into the private affair and marriage of the Comrade Governor, Senator Melaye has exposed himself as a simpleton and a court jester whose words and tactlessness cannot be taken seriously by matured people. “We advise that Melaye should mend his ways with his ex-wife and concubines before coming to the village square to display his crass ignorance and emptiness to the Nigerian people.

“If he has anything to offer, Dino Melaye should concentrate on making good laws for the people of Nigeria rather than descend to a ridiculous level, thus displaying to the whole world his unworthiness to sit in the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian Senate.”

Dino Melaye’s Made-In-Nigeria Campaign: Stop Debating The Messenger But The Message

Senator Dino Melaye
Senator Dino Melaye
Senate Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District on Wednesday, March 1st advocated for the need to patronise made in Nigeria goods in Nigeria, while making his submission known he threw shades at the incumbent governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole for getting married to a 'foreign woman' that is not from Nigeria.

Quoting him:
"We will also move in order to encourage the made in Nigeria products in Nigeria, begin to talk about made in Nigeria women.

Apologies to my uncle, the governor of Edo State, we must as a people stop paying dowries in dollars and pounds. It is time for my colleagues here to become born again".
End of quote.

This statements credited to him can be said to be taken too far but the message passed shouldn't be ignored based on that premise.

Reviving our Naira from its dismal state is a collective rescue mission. We should stop celebrating irrelevancy.

The poser is:
Is Lara Oshiomhole a Nigerian? Everyone knows that the answer is hell NO!

So to me, he hasn't committed a crime, he only used that to buttress his point, which was perfectly done. Another visible point is that, he even apologies for the 'name calling'.

So, let's ruminant on it and change our ways as regards made in Nigeria products. We Nigerians are very creative, buying of our products will go a long way in resuscitating our economy which will in turn push up our naira in the international market.

Value Naija, to give value to Naira.

Read The Brief History Of Olubadan Since Inception (Full List)

Yoruba-Oba Traditional Crown
It is no longer news that the Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Aje Oguguluso I is the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, he ascended into the throne of his fore-fathers on 4th of March, 2016.
He succeeded Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I, who died on Tuesday, 19th of January, 2016.

I bring to you all the Olubadan that have ruled this ancient town from inception.

Read and be updated.

The Olubadan (Olubadan means Lord of Ibadan) is the royal title of the king of Ibadanland in Nigeria, now a largely symbolic role.

Ibadan was founded in the 16th century, but the present Yoruba people only took control around 1820.

By 1850 they had established their unusual succession principle, which is quite different compared with other traditional Yoruba rulers in that it alternates between two lines.

It usually takes decades to groom an Olubadan for the stool through stages of chieftaincy promotion, thus meaning that just about any male born title-holder of the metropolitan center is a potential king.

Ruling Lines:

There are two ruling lines to the throne of Olubadan, Egbe Agba (civil) and Balogun (military), from where Olubadans are appointed on rotational basis to occupy the stool on the death of a monarch.

The next to Olubadan and most senior on both lines are the Otun Olubadan and Balogun, who under the Western Nigeria Law are recognised as second class traditional rulers and who are included on the Nigerian equivalent of acivil list as a result.

Others are the Osi Olubadan, Asipa Olubadan, Ekerin and Ekarun, as well as Otun Balogun, Osi Balogun, Asipa Balogun, Ekerin and Ekarun Balogun, while the Seriki and Iyalode, ("mother of the town", female chief) are also members of the Olubadan'sprivy council.

The 11 high chiefs that formed the Olubadan-in-council,apart from the Seriki and Iyalode, are recognised as the traditional head of each of the 11 LGs in Ibadanland.

It was learnt that the progenitors of Ibadan frowned on the involvement of the senior chiefs in partisan politics because of the salient neutral roles they were expected to play in their domains.

For instance, they are appointed as presidents of customary courts, who are expected to adjudicate on matrimonial, land, boundary and other communal disputes.

Opinion: Buhari’s Denial Of 5,000 Electioneering Promise; An Attribute Of A "Conman"?

President Muhammadu Buhari

The hellish moment that Nigerians are facing under the present Buhari-led administration took another dimension earlier this week as the President made public his intention not to pay the much published N5,000 stipend to unemployed Nigerians.

He opined that he has many other priorities than wasting country’s resources on indolent youths.

The continuous denial of electioneering promises on daily basis is beginning to make me  to align myself with the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose that indeed Nigeria has enter 'One Chance Bus' under the APC-led government and that we were fooled into voting them in power.

In a sane clime, electorates hold their leaders by the manifestos rendered during electioneering but the reverse is the case in my beloved country.

This is a perfect description of a conman. An upright man is known as stands by his words.

Buhari is the man that was elected on the account of probity and accountability but his present way of governance is creating a doubt by the day.

If at all, his party made this promise, he has no option than to pay since it is a popular opinion that party’s decision is supreme and binding on all its members, let alone a leader elected under its platform.

Though Imo State Governor, Mr Rochas Okorocha has contributed to this debacle by saying that the youths expecting this 5,000 "manna" will be taking to the farm.

We should all condemn the doctoring of electioneering promises by the day!! All what we need is truthfulness and transparency from all our leaders, irrespective of political offices.

It is a crime to change the goalpost when the match is on.

Ese Oruru Saga: Police Moves Alleged Abductor To Bayelsa For Prosecution #ProsecuteYinusa

The Kano State-born Yunusa, who allegedly abducted the 14-year-old Ese Oruru from Bayelsa State, converted her to Islam and married her has been transferred to the Bayelsa State police command in Yenagoa.

Yunusa was initially arrested in Kano and taken to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, following public outrage generated by Ese’s travails.

The police had earlier said they would transfer the culprit to the Bayelsa command where he allegedly committed the offence.

A source at the Bayelsa police command told our correspondent that Yunusa was already in the state’s police custody.

He said Yunusa was handed over to the command on Wednesday, the same day Ese was brought back to thestate.

“Yunusa is presently here in the Bayelsa police command. He was brought by a team of policemen from the Force Headquarters on Wednesday.

He is being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID),” he said.

The source said the police had been mandated to carry out thorough investigations and compile evidence that would lead to Yunusa’s prosecution.

The 33-year-old resigned last month, days after a student copied a naked photo of her from her device when she left the room briefly.

He spread the image, which Ms Arthur says was a Valentine's Day snap for her husband, through text messages and on social media.

But no disciplinary action has been taken against the student.

Ms Arthur, an engineering teacher, said she had left her mobile phone on her desk on 18 February as she monitored a hallway.

A 16-year-old boy took the handset, she said, and used his own phone to take pictures of nude images of Ms Arthur on her device.

Ms Arthur said at the end of the class the student warned her: "Your day of reckoning is coming."

But David Eubanks, interim Superintendent of Union County schools, said Ms Arthur should not have left her phone unlocked.

He said he's not sure if the student involved will be disciplined.

Ms Arthur said she forgives the boy, but believes he should be held responsible for his actions."

We all make stupid decisions when we're 16," she told WYFF-TV."

He had the ultimate decision to take pictures of my pictures and he had the ultimate decision to send them out."

More than 7,600 people had signedan online petitionin support of Ms Arthur as of Thursday afternoon."

Leigh Anne Arthur is the victim of a blatant attack of her privacy," it says.

Lionel Messi nets hat trick as Barca breaks 27-year record

Barcelona broke a 27-year old Spanish record by going 35 games unbeaten in all competitions this season after thrashing nine-man Rayo Vallecano.

Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick as the hosts fell apart after Ivan Rakitic’s opener, a result of a goalkeeper error.

Diego Llorente was sent off in between two Messi goals before Manucho replied.

Manuel Iturra then saw red but Luis Suarez had the resulting penalty saved as Messi wrapped up a 35th Barca treble before Arda Turan completed the rout.It was the Turkish midfielder’s first Barcelona goal since his move from Atletico Madrid last summer, but in an action-packed game, it was relegated to a mere footnote.

Luis Enrique’s team now sit eight points clear of second-placed Atletico and they could have easily made it even more convincing against Rayo, who are now separated from the relegation zone by goal difference.

Barcelona twice hit the woodwork with Neymar’s free-kick against the bar falling to Sergio Busquets, who was brought down for Rayo’s second red card anda penalty.

Rayo goalkeeper Juan Carlos Martin Corral made up for his earlier mistake by saving Suarez’s spot-kick with Barcelona now having missed half of their 18 penalties this season.

That also includes the one taken by Messi when he passed to Suarez.

The hosts will argue that Llorente’s dismissal was harsh as he took the ball despite a high tackle on Rakitic, but they were outclassed as Messi drew level with Real Madrid’s Spanish record-holder Cristiano Ronaldo on 35 hat-tricks.The Argentine also took his season’s tally to 33 goals.

[Sports] Sunshine Stars sack coach Samson Unuanel over dismal outing

Samson Unuanel
The management of the Owena Waves approved the duo’s sack following their unending wrangling which has affected the team’s performance this season.

Coach Kayode Olujohugbe of Sunshine Queens has been named interim coach until the Ondo State FootballAgency Agency board led by Prince John Ola Mafo appoints a substantive coach later in the month.

Unuanel was named handler of the Akure based outfit in December 2015 following the exit of coach Kennedy Boboye who led the team to a sixth place finish on the Nigeria Professional Football League log last season.

It was gathered that since his arrival, he has had a strained relationship with Henry Abiodun on issues relating to tactical plan and team selection.

This has not helped the team in the new league season as Sunshine Stars are placed 18th on the NPFL log with one point from three games with their latest slide a 2-1 defeat to MFM FC on Wednesday at the Agege Stadium.

“Coach Samson Unuanel and Henry Abiodun have been sacked by the board of the Ondo State Football Agency,” media officer Wahab Bankole confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

“Both have been at loggerhead for long and that has affected the team’s performance since the season started, little wonder the team is in the relegation zone – a position that is embarrassing for a team like Sunshine.“

Their row have affected the psyche of the players who have not justified the investment of the state government.“Sunshine Queens handler Kayode Olujohungbe have been appointed the interim coach of the team and will be in charge when we [Sunshine Stars] host Ifeanyi Ubah in Sunday’s NPFL encounter in Akure,” he concluded.

Ese Oruru Recounts Ordeals, Says She Doesn't Know How She Got To Kano (Read The Full Interview)

Ese Oruru, the 14-year-old teenager abducted from Bayelsa State and taken to Kano by one Yunusa, said it was only after she got to Kano and saw that the people and the environment were strange that she realised she was no longer at home in Bayelsa.

The teenager in an interview with the Sun News Online, opens up on what exactly transpired and how she met Yunusa.

On how she met Yunusa aka Yellow, the teenager said, “We sell food in Bayelsa; so they (Yellow and his friends), used to come and buy food from us.”

Ese said Yunusa came to Bayelsa to hustle (look for money).

She debunked claims that Yellow is her boyfriend saying, “No, he is not my boyfriend.

Like I told you, we sell food in Bayelsa, and so, he used to come and buy food from us.

He is not the only one; they are many and I used to play with all of them like my own brothers because they buy food from us.

I sell food to them just like that.”

When asked if she could remember the day Yellow took her from Bayelsa to Kano or how it all happened, she said “I don’t know.

He didn’t tell me I was travelling to Kano.

She said they did not travel to Kano in Yellow’s tricycle (Keke Napep); according to her, “his keke is at home.

“He didn’t come to the house to carry me and how I travelled to Kano? I don’t know,” she said, “I just followed him.

I don’t know how I followed him.”

Ese was told people believed she decided to run away with her abductor because she loved him and wanted to marry him at all cost but she feigned innocence saying,

“I know that we used to play with all of them, our customers that come to buy food from our shop.

There is nobody that is different.

I sell food to all of them and I laugh with all of them.

I don’t have anything special with any of them.”

On how she knew she was in Kano since she claims she didn’t know how she got there, Ese said, “I saw that the place was different and the people there are people that I didn’t know.

“So, I knew it was his place because I did not know anybody there, but only him.

We went to their house first.

“I knew I was in a strange land but I did not do anything.

I did not ask or tell him anything,” she quipped.

“We travelled to Kura the next day with one man like that.

He is the chief of the town.

“When we got there, they took me to one place and there they gave me hijab; they put it on me.

And after that, they took me to one house in Kura.

And from there on Monday, in the morning, we went back to the Emir’s Palace in Kano; then in the afternoon, we travelled back to Kura, to stay in the house.”

When asked what they all went to do at the Emir’s Palace, Ese noted, “At the Emir’s Palace, they were asking him questions.

They did not talk to me.

They did not ask me anything, but they were asking him.

“Then they were speaking in Hausa language and I did not understand the language very well that time; so I didn’t understand what they were saying.”

She responded in the affirmative that it was at the Emir’s Palace she first saw her mother.

Ese said, “I saw her, but I was not able to talk to her.

I was just looking at her and she was crying.

I just looked at her.

I did not know her and I did not talk to her.

I can’t even tell if I could recognize her as my mother, I just looked at her as she was crying.”

“But when I saw her on Tuesday at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, I recognized her as my mother.”

Ese went further to say she didn’t get married in Kano as reports had it.

In the continued interview, she revealed: see excerpts below:

While you were away in Kano, they said you got married. Is this true?

Ese: No.

Was there any marriage ceremony?

Ese: No, I did not get married to anybody.

But did they convert you to a Muslim? Ese: Yes.

How did that happen?

Ese: They took me to one place. Before they took me from the house to Kura, they put me in hijab, then we went to Kura. When we got there, they went to one place, and one old man came there and he would say something and they would say I should repeat. Then I would repeat. If the man said something again, they would say I should repeat and I would repeat just like that.

So, that was how you got converted?

Ese: Yes.

There is also this rumour that it was one old man that actually married you and not Inuwa. Is this true?

Ese: I did not get married to anybody.

While you were there in Kano, did you ever fall sick?

Ese: I don’t know.

What kind of medical attention did you get? Did they give you any injection?

Ese: No, I don’t know. But they did not give me because I don’t like taking injections and I will not take injection when I am sick. It was only when they arrested me on Monday in Kano that they took me to the hospital. And when we got here in Abuja, they took me to the hospital again yesterday, Tuesday.

Those are the only two occasions that I have gone to the hospital. Did they give you any medicine?

Ese: Medicine? I don’t know. But if they put it in water or food… They used to give me something, but I don’t know if it is water they used to prepare it. But if I am not well, they would buy medicine for me and I would take. But it was not those types of native medicine. It was from the pharmacy.

Are you happy reuniting with your family?

Ese: Yes, I am happy to go back to my family.

How do you feel now?

Ese: I don’t know how I feel, but I just look calm. I don’t know what to do.

Do you regret what has happened to you?

Ese: Yes.

How?

Ese: I don’t know, but I have caused my mother a lot of trouble and put her into problem.

If you see Yinusa now, what would you tell him?

Ese:I tell you I’m confused. I don’t know what to do (then she started crying).

What were you doing when you were in Kano?

Ese: Nothing.

You mean you just stayed in the house from morning till night?

Ese: Yes. I did not do anything.

I can see that you now speak Hausa language very well.

Ese: Yes. I can speak Hausa very, very well.

Were you speaking Hausa before you left for Kano?

Ese: No.

So, how did you come about it? Did they teach you?

Ese: No. It is because the people there speak only Hausa. They don’t understand English. And when they spoke, I didn’t understand; so I tried and struggled so I could understand what they were saying and communicate with them. That was how I learnt the language.

They call you Aisha. Didn’t you tell them that’s not your name?

Ese: I answered it like that.

What’s your real name?

Ese: Rita.

How would you relate with your other siblings when you get back home?

Ese: I don’t even know. I have a feeling that they would do something to me for this thing that has happened.

Like what?

Ese: I don’t know if my mother will beat me when we get home for what has happened because she may think that I know everything that happened to me.

I don’t think she would do that, considering all the efforts she put to get you back home.(Then the mother assured her that she would do no such thing, saying she was filled with gladness for seeing her alive).

How old are you? There has been a controversy about your age.

Ese: I am 14 years old.

When were you born?

Ese: I was born in February 2002.

What is your favourite subject in school?

Ese: Mathematics.

And what do you hope to become in future?

Ese: I hope to go back to school and become a nurse in the future.

Your brother said you are a good Christian and member of the Scripture Union in your school and that you used to preach to people. Is this true?

Ese: (Smiles) Yes.

Tell me about it.

Ese: Yes, I am in the SU, but they took it to the senior students and the senior students started misbehaving. So, we in the junior class took our own to a different level to sanitise the whole thing. We hold our fellowship in our class and go out for evangelism.

What is your advice to young girls like you out there, considering what you have gone through?

Ese: They should be careful.

How?

Ese: They should be careful with the people they play with or talk with, because it’s not everybody that is good.

What is your appeal to your parents since you are afraid they are going to beat you?

Ese: I don’t know what to do. I am confused. I don’t know what really happened to me and I don’t even know where I am. But I know that she is my mother.

What did you miss most while in Kano?

Ese: I missed my mother’s cooking. She used to cook sweet food for me; so I missed good food.

Does it mean you were not eating good food?

Ese: Yes, I was only eating rice and bread.

What would you want your mother to cook for you when you get home?

Ese: Banga soup and starch.

Kogi Assembly Crises: Sheriff Overrules Purported Impeachment Of Kogi Speaker

Ali Modu Sheriff
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, PDP National Chairman
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has assured the embattled Kogi State Speaker and PDP members of the State House of Assembly that the Party will stand by them through thick or thin with a view to ensuring that the party holds on to the leadership of the state legislature.

Sheriff also stated that the Party will work to ensure that the rule of law and natural justice is upheld.

Speaking while receiving the Speaker and PDP members at the Party National Secretariat on Tuesday, Sheriff said the purported impeachment of Hon. Jimoh Lawal cannot stand, saying it is absurd that five (5) out of twenty-five (25) Assembly members could claim to impeach a Speaker in an informal sitting in a private residence without even forming a quorum as required by the rules of the House.

Sheriff who made the assertions in a statement issued by his media aide, Inuwa Bwala, also urged members tostand by the resolution to the effect that the House leadership is unchanged, adding that they must show greater dedication to their duties as the conscience of democracy.

Meanwhile, all PDP members of the Assembly have reaffirmed their earlier position passing a vote of confidence on the House Leadership; stating that they are more determined to work as a group and not allow the opposition to divide their ranks.

According to the Speaker, Jimoh Lawal who led the delegation to the Party Secretariat, they are conscious of the supremacy of Party decision on matters like this, and promised not to do anything contrary to what the National Chairman has charged them to do.

Ese Oruru Saga: Yunusa's Father Absolves Son In Abduction Claim #FreeEse

Miss Ese Oruru
Alhaji Dahiru Bala (55), father of 25-years old Inuwa Dahiru Bala (otherwise known as Yunusa aka Yellow) who abducted 14-year old Ese Rita Oruru spoke from Tofa, his village in Kura Local Government Area of Kano state, Wednesday, insisting that his son committed no crime and should be set free.
Alhaji Bala told reporters who traveled about 40 kilometres from Kano to Tofa village that Ese voluntarily followed his son out of love and affection.

“The girl fell in love with my son and followed my son. Let them release my son because he has not committed any crime by following his heart,” he added.

However, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman (50), Dagaci Tofa (Village Head of Tofa) faulted Inuwa’s action for keeping the girl after the instruction of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad 11, describing the action as unIslamic.

Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman also gave a graphic account how the girl was converted to Islam and was taken to the Emir of Kano for endorsement, but added that the Emir refused to endorse the marriage because the girl (Ese) in question was a teenager and could not decide for herself without the consent of her parents.

According to the Village Head of Tofa town: “What I know about the story is that there was a time that boy, Inuwa Dahiru Bala, a native of this village, came with the girl in question whom I learnt her name is Ese Oruru.

They came here sometime last year; and Inuwa brought her to me.“When he told me what he wanted to do—that is, getting married to the girl; I told him I don’t have the power to join them as husband and wife.

So, I decided to take them to the Hakimi (District Head) of Tofa.“The Hakimi took the issue to the Liman (Islamic scholar) of our village where the conversion of the girl from Christianity to Islam was performed.

From there, we headed straight to the Emir’s Palace to intimate himon the development; but unfortunately, the Emir was not around at that time. We met the then Wambai Kano (Abbas Sanusi, now Galadiman Kano).

“The Wambai Kano instructed us to take them to Sharia’ah Commission; so, at Sharia’ah Commission, the issue was further discussed—the parents of the girl were invited to Sharia’ah Commission.

The parents wanted to take the girl back to Bayelsa, but they could not.

“Then, the next day being a Friday, we went back to the Emir’s Palace and we were asked to come back on Monday (after the weekend). When we came back to the Emir’s Palace that Monday, we waited a long time for representatives from the Sharia’ah Commission, but they delayed us to the extent that the Emir, Sanusi Muhammad 11, got tired and left for other official engagements.“

So, when the Emir left, the Police who came along with the parents of the girl had no choice than to leave for other official duties.

However, the Emir delegated power to Wambai Kano who spoke on behalf of the Emirate Council and informed us that the girl being lessthan 16 years of age should be given out for marriage without the consent of her parents.

“Having been informed on the position of the Emirate Council on the issue, Wambai Kano gave us a letter stating the position of the Emirate Council and instructed us to deliver it to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 1, including Inuwa and the girl.

We delivered the letter to the AIG and gave him a message that the Emir instructed that the girl should be repatriated to Bayelsa where her parents lives. So, after delivering the letter and the two children to the AIG, that was where I stopped playing any role, believing that the AIG will handle the matter asinstructed by the Emir.

“However, I must say that Tofa people are not happy with this development and we condemn the action of our son, Inuwa. Now, I must tell you that it was wrong for Inuwa to have brought the girl back to this village after the Emir of Kano has given his verdict that the girl be repatriated back to her people. It is not in our character to do this kind of thing.

“So, I must declare that Inuwa’s character was unIslamic and totally unacceptable by the people of Tofa village who have high regard to our religion, constituted authorities and the revered throne of SarkinKano, Sanusi Muhammad 11. Inuwa has cheated the people of Tofa; he has smeared our name and the name of Kano state, even that of Nigeria.

“My advice to the young ones is that whenever they want to get married from any part of the country, they should properly follow the channels, tradition, customs and norms of the people.

The reunion of the girl with the parents is the best option in this issue and Tofa people align themselves with this decision, because since the Emir’s verdict on the issue, all that we have been fighting for is that the girl be returned back to her parents.”

It was also gathered that Inuwa Dahiru Bala (25) who was born and brought up in Tofa village, traveled to Bayelsa state in search of job.

Impeached Kogi Speaker Soft Pedal, Says He Will Resign If (See His Condition)

The embattled speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Momoh Jimoh Lawal, yesterday said he wasready to resign if the right thing was done and his purported impeachment by five members out of 20 member house reversed.

He spoke on a day the National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, faulted the impeachment, saying it was illegal and could not stand.

Addressing journalists after members of the state House of Assembly met with Ali Modu Sheriff, the speaker said he was aware of agitation that the speaker and the governor should not come from the same senatorial district.

The speaker’s position which was conveyed by the majority Leader of the House, Kolawole Olusola Mathew, noted that “what is paramount to the House is to resolve the crisis before the Speaker can resign to pave way for the Kogi West to assume the position.

If for any reason the House wants the Speaker to resign, he will resign but we should sit down and resolve the crisis in the House. We want a unified House.”

The Kogi State House of Assembly hasbeen embroiled in crisis following the alleged impeachment of Lawal by five members last month.

The Majority Leader, however, told newsmen that Ali Modu Sheriff had urged the PDP lawmakers from the state to allow the status quo ante to remain.

He also enjoined them to work together as members of one party while calling on them to sign an undertaking indicating their allegiance to the embattled Speaker.

Meanwhile, National Chairman of PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has assured the embattled speaker and PDP members of the State House of Assembly that the Party will stand by them.

In a statement by the Special Assistant to the chairmanon Media, Inuwa Bwala, the National Chairman, said the purported impeachment of Lawal could not stand, saying it was absurd that five out of 25 assembly members could claim to impeach a Speaker in an informal sitting in a private residence without even forming a quorum as required by the rules of the House.

I will Take My Daughter To T. B. Joshua - Ese's Father #FreeEse

Ese Oruru
Mr. Charles Oruru, father of abducted Ese, who regained freedom yesterday at his Opolo residence in Yenagoa, said he will seek spiritual help from Lagos cleric, Pastor T. B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations.

The decision to seek spiritual help, Oruru said, was informed by claims that his daughter,14 years old Ese, had declined to come home after being released into the custody of the Police, fearing she may have been hypnotised.

According to him, the traumatic experience and release of their daughter was the Lord’s doing, adding that it would take prayers before she can return to normal.

He said: “We have decided to visit the T. B. Joshua for prayers and thanksgiving.

When I heard that she is declining to come home, I see this as a spiritual problem that can only be countered by prayer.”

The mother of the teenager, it was gathered, was yesterday morning flown to Abuja to received the freed daughter in the custody of the Nigerian Police.

Shocking: 14-year-old Abducted Ese Oruru Is 5-month Pregnant #FreeEse

Vanguard reports that the 14-year-old Ese Rita Oruru, the Bayelsa-born girl child who was abducted by Yunusa Dahiru, alias Yellow but rescued by the Police in Kano, has been discovered to be about 5 months pregnant.

Freed Ese Oruru at Police Headquarters, Abuja, yesterday. Consequently, it was gathered that the white Hijab dress she wore on her arrival from Kano on Tuesday was used to cover the pregnancy even though her physical condition and looks created a suspicion.

Vanguard was told that it was the condition in which Police authorities discovered about Ese that informed the IGP, Solomon Arase’s directive that she should be handed over to the Gender and Child Protection Unit and later, a team from the Medical Department of the Force to carry out a comprehensive medical examination of the girl-child at the Police Medical Facility in Area 1, Garki.

Upon certifying her medical status and emotional state, Vanguard gathered that the Inspector General of Police feeling uncomfortable with the transport arrangement of the mother that they return by road cancelled the arrangement and directed that both Ese and her mother be flown to Yenegoa by air.

Meanwhile, the IGP has directed the Bayelsa State Police Command to take over the investigation in the child violence offense saga because according to sources, the offense was committed in Bayelsa, which is the place of residence of the abductor, Yunusa Dahiru.

Consequently, Vanguard was told the Yunusa will be moved to Yenegoa to face interrogation and prosecution for kidnapping and child abuse as well as violence against a girl-child.

President Buhari "Kills English" On Twitter (Must Read)

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmed started work on a wrong note by committing a legendary error.

This he made when he posted a Tweet using President Muhammadu Buhari’s verified Twitter handle @@NGRPresident.

The tweet reads:

"President @MBuhari is this morning hosting Turkish President @rterdogan_ar at the Presidential Villa"

Hmmmmmmm... This happens when appointment is based on ethnicity rather than competency.

Buhari should live above board and put right people in sensitive positions. If the tweet should stay on Twitter for over four hours, it means that was the best from the writer.

If this continues, the image of the President and Nigeria at large will be dented.
