I have kissed over 200 actresses on set – Jim Iyke

Nollywood bad boy, Jimi Iyke, can’t stop being
controversial.

During the week, the actor openly kissed actress Joselyn Dumas on a live show and went ahead to confess that he has kissed not less than 200 actresses while on different movie sets.

Iyke was a Special Guest on AfricaMagic programme, which was anchored by Dumas.
Responding to a question on why he had to kiss Nadia Buari, upon the latter’s arriving Dubai during the last season of his reality TV show, Jim Iyke Unscripted, the controversial actor said he has a habit of kissing women openly, including his sisters.

He narrated a situation where he had to kiss three European ladies who accompanied his girlfriend to the airport to welcome him during one of his foreign trips, adding that he doesn’t see anything wrong with it.

As if that is not enough, Jim Iyke painted another scenario where he had to kiss four actresses in the presence of their boyfriends.

He said: “I have once kissed them on set and so when walked into the room where two of them were with their boyfriends, I kissed them one after the other and their boyfriends were mad at me.

“I have also kissed over 200 actresses on set and
nobody is talking about it.” Iyke, however, declined to comment on his relationship with Nadia Buari.

But there are indications that the two unconfirmed love-birds may be hitting your TV screens again for the second season of Jim Iyke Unscripted.

Iyke disclosed that the reality show will soon hit the screens again.
Explaining the idea behind the show, Iyke said he needed to present a true picture of who he is to the world.

He said: “”I have to be introspective. “Many times, a lot of negative things have been said about me in the media.

“It is not basically about what they say about you, it is about you believing in yourself.

“The first thing is: what I believe in. “What people say about me is secondary.

“I have always been particular about paparazzi.
“I was very sceptical to allow cameras into my life, into my home and family.

“The argument was superior: it was like all these years, everybody has different opinions about you.

“Why don’t you give them a clear picture of who you are.

“So I decided to start the TV reality show.” Jim Iyke Unscripted debuted in 2013 on DStv, showcasing the uncut lifestyle of the actor.

The series, which ran for 13 weeks, presented the other side of the controversial actor.

The couple started dating in October 2014 and have reportedly called off their relationship exactly a year later.

Kylie reportedly broke things off after she returned from her trip to Australia on Thursday over something Tyga did.

Former military bosses offer to refund cash they made from non-existent arms purchases....fear of Buhari??

SEVERAL former service chief and military commanders have offered to refund illegally acquired money which they made from arms procurement contracts during the previous administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Over recent months, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been investigating arms procurement deals after it was revealed that President Jonathan released $2bn to be used to purchase hardware to fight Boko Haram.

However, most of this money is believed to have been diverted into private bank accounts, with former national security adviser Col Sambo Dasuki at the centre of the crisis.

Although Col Dasuki has protested his innocence and has even published details of equipment he bought, it is believed that several generals got rich from the purchases.

There were indications last night that some of these former military chiefs have volunteered to refund some money to the EFCC for jobs undone.
One source close to the EFCC's Special Investigative Committee said: “About four of such former officers have offered to make refunds.

I think Dasuki does not know the extent to which the panel had gone in probing the arms
deals but when the case gets to court, Nigerians will appreciate the depth of the investigation by the panel.”

Under Nigerian law, the EFCC is empowered to seize the assets of Col Sambo Dasuki and any other ex-military chiefs  allegedly involved in the N644bn arms deals.

It can also invoke temporary assets forfeiture clause as part of the ongoing probe of the arms procurement.

Apparently, at least three suspects, including a top Nigerian and two Israelis, have sneaked out of the country to escape arrest.

To avoid arrest, the former service chiefs on their part have offered to return votes meant for failed contracts.

“We have an appreciable list of assets in Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos and Port Harcourt and one of the affected officers built two mansions in Kaduna and Abuja under six months.

A service chief is also being investigated for allegedly acquiring a property of the late first civilian governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha," the source added.

It is believed that one of the reasons why the Federal government does not want Col Dasuki to travel out of the country for medical treatment is because he too may abscond like his associates.

Department of State Security officials are said to be unhappy about the fact that three of the suspects have succeeded in slipping through their fingers.

PoliFocus Wishes Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Happy Birthday +GEJ's Brief Profile

Goodluck Jonathan
PoliFocus joins millions of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's well-wishers in wishing you Happy 58th birthday, age with grace Sir.

Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, GCFR, BNER , GCON (born 20 November 1957) was President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015.

He served as Vice-President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010 and as Governor of Bayelsa State from 2005 to 2007.

He contested and lost the 2015 presidential election, upon which he conceded defeat and became the first sitting Nigerian president to do so.

Jonathan's term as President of Nigeria ended on 29 May 2015, when he handed over to his successor Muhammadu Buhari, the incumbent President of Nigeria.

Early and personal life
Jonathan was born in what is now Bayelsa State to a family of canoe makers. Jonathan holds a B.Sc. degree in Zoology in which he attained Second Class Honours.

He holds an M.Sc. degree in Hydrobiology and
Fisheries biology , and a PhD degree in Zoology from the University of Port Harcourt , which he did not finish according to Olusegun Obasanjo.

Before he entered politics in 1998, he worked as an education inspector, lecturer, and environmental-protection officer.

Jonathan and his wife Patience have two children. He is a Christian , and he comes from the Ijaw ethnic group.

In 2007, President Jonathan declared his assets worth a total of ₦ 295,304,420 Naira ($1,845,652 USD).

However, on 9 October 2014, the richestlifestyle.com website ranked Mr Jonathan sixth on its list, claiming his net worth was about $100m (£62m).

He threatened to sue the website, claiming it "was an attempt to portray him as corrupt."

The page was removed, but was then published by another website which estimated Jonathan's net wealth at $10 million.

As Deputy Governor of Bayelsa
On 29 May 1999, Jonathan was sworn in as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa alongside Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who named in as the governor of the state on the platform of PDP.

Jonathan served as Deputy Governor until December 2005.

As a Governor of Bayelsa
On 9 December 2005, Jonathan, who was Deputy Governor at the time, was sworn in as Governor of Bayelsa State upon the impeachment of the current Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha by the Bayelsa State Assembly after being charged with money laundering in the United Kingdom.

In September 2006, Jonathan was marred by reports released by Wikileaks claiming his wife was indicted for money-laundering by Nigeria’s anti-crime agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The report proved to be false. The head of the EFCC stated that "Mrs. Jonathan was not in any way involved in any case of money laundering investigated by the EFCC".

As a Vice-president
As Vice-President, Jonathan took a very low profile. While recognising the constitutional limits of the Vice-President's office, he participated in cabinet meetings and, by statute, was a member of the National Security Council, the National Defence Council, the Federal Executive Council, and was the Chairman of National Economic Council.

Vice-President Jonathan was instrumental in negotiating an agreement with many of the major militant groups in the Niger Delta, who were mostly his fellow Ijaws, to Lay down their weapons and stop fighting as part of a government amnesty.

As a President
Acting President
On 9 February 2010, a motion from the Nigerian Senate invested Goodluck Jonathan as acting President of the Federation because President Yar'Adua went for medical treatment in Saudi Arabia in November 2009.

On 10 February 2010, during his first day as acting president, Jonathan announced a minor cabinet reshuffle. Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, who was the Labour Minister, was named Minister of Justice, to replace Mr Mike Aondoakaa. Aondoakaa was named as the Minister of Special Duties, and his counterpart Ibrahim Kazaure, was named Minister of Labour.

Acting President Jonathan also promised to continue implementing the Seven-point agenda policy framework of President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.

Order of succession
In accordance with the order of succession in the Nigerian constitution following President Umaru Yar'Adua 's death on 5 May 2010, Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 6 May 2010, becoming Nigeria's 14th Head of State.

He cited anti-corruption, power and electoral reforms as focuses of his administration. He stated that he came to office under "very sad and unusual circumstances".

On 18 May 2010, the National Assembly approved Jonathan's nomination of former Kaduna State governor, Namadi Sambo, for the position of Vice-President.

2011 presidential campaign and elections On 15 September 2010, Jonathan announced on Facebook that he had decided to run for public office on his own for the first time, in the race for the presidency of Nigeria in 2011.

In the contest for the Peoples Democratic Party nomination, Goodluck Jonathan was up against the former vice-president Atiku Abubakar and Mrs. Sarah Jubril.

On 13 January 2011 the primary election results were announced in Eagle Square, Abuja. Jonathan was declared winner with a victory in two-thirds of the states of the Federation counted.

For the general election in 2011, Jonathan and Vice-President Sambo attended political events and travelled the country to campaign for the nation's highest office.

Jonathan won the general election against General Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate Pastor Tunde Bakare with 59% of the votes.

On 18 April, Jonathan was declared the winner of the election.

Major initiatives
Roadmap for Power Sector Reform
On 2 August 2010, Jonathan launched his 'Roadmap for Power Sector Reform‘.

Its primary goal was to achieve stable electricity supply in Nigeria.
Historically, the Nigerian Power Sector has been plagued by blackouts. Economists estimate that power outages have cost Nigeria, Africa's biggest economy, billions of dollars in imported diesel for generators and lost output.

In a study conducted by the World Bank, a lack of access to financing and electricity were cited as Nigeria's main obstacles to development, surpassing corruption.

President Jonathan has overseen the privatisation of Nigeria's power sector with the end goal being the establishment of an efficient and reliable power supply infrastructure for the Nigerian population.

The Power Holding Company of Nigeria , which acted as the nation's electricity provider, has been broken up into 15 firms, with Nigeria handing over control of state electricity assets to 15 private bidding companies.

The Nigerian government contracted for the services of CPCS Transcom Limited , a Canada-based consulting firm specialising in transportation and energy infrastructure projects, to act as the transaction adviser for the handover of state electricity assets.

Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria
On 11 October 2011, President Jonathan launched the Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YOUWIN) Initiative which he stated would be an innovative business plan competition that harnesses the creative energies of young people between the ages of 18 and 35.

The YOUWIN Initiative is expected to create between 40,000 to 50,000 sustainable jobs by 2014.

Lead poisoning incident
In January 2013, Jonathan reportedly promised $4 million to assist in cleaning up villages that have been affected by a lead poisoning incident.

Over 400 children have died and Human Rights Watch said that releasing the funds "could be lifesaving for countless children."

Transformation Agenda
In 2011, President Jonathan launched the Transformation Agenda. The Transformation Agenda is based on a summary of how the Federal Government hopes to deliver projects, programmes, and key priority policies, from 2011 to 2015 coordinated by the National Planning Commission (NPC).

On 11 September 2013, President Jonathan sacked the creator and coordinator of the Transformation Agenda, Shamsudeen Usman, the Minister of National Planning.

He was sacked along with eight other cabinet ministers amid a rift in the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Foreign policy
According to President Jonathan, Nigeria's foreign policy was reviewed to reflect a "citizen-focused" approach, designed to "accord this vision of defending the dignity of humanity the highest priority" and connect foreign policy to domestic policy, while placing a greater emphasis on economic diplomacy.

2015 presidential campaign and elections
On 31 March 2015, Jonathan conceded the election to Muhammadu Buhari, who was sworn in to succeed him on 29 May 2015.

Jonathan said in a statement he issued on 31 March 2015 that "Nobody's ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian".

Security challenges
On 26 August 2011, after the UN building in Abuja was bombed by Boko Haram, Jonathan announced that it was an attack not merely on Nigeria, but on the international community.

He told reporters that "we would work together with the UN and other world leaders to ensure that terrorism is brought under control."

In response to the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta 's attack on an oil pipeline on 4 February 2012 in Bayelsa, the Senate President David Mark stated that the security situation in the country was "intolerable".

On 14 May 2013, Jonathan declared a state of emergency in three northeastern Nigerian states, Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa to curtail the activities of Boko Haram.

Although initially offering amnesty, by June 2013 he ordered for 20-year jail terms for anyone found to be in support of Boko Haram.

On 16 January 2014, it was reported that Jonathan had sacked his military high command in response to their inability to end the Islamist-led insurgency in Northern Nigeria.

Jonathan's administration was heavily criticized for its failure to bring back the over 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram.

Many demonstrations called for the government to be more responsive; Jonathan asked that demonstrators focus on blaming Boko Haram itself for the abductions.

Jonathan initially denied that there had been any abduction at all, but then later signaled his government would do a prisoner release in exchange for the kidnapped girls.

Discussions then took place in Paris with foreign ministers from France , Britain , the United States and Israel , where he agreed no deals should be struck with terrorists.

He then called off the exchange at the last minute on 24 May 2014. This about-turn reportedly enraged Boko Haram leaders.

National politics
World Cup 2010
In 2010 after the Nigerian football team failed to progress beyond the group stage at FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Jonathan declared a two-year ban on the country's national football team from all international competitions and ordered an audit into the way the funds allocated for the team were spent.

FIFA, the world football governing body, resisted the investigation and stated that it would expel Nigeria from world football if the government interfered.

FIFA called for advice from Amos Adamu, the director general of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission, who was sacked in the wake of a corruption scandal.

After the world governing body threatened to suspend $8 million due to Nigeria for its participation in the World Cup, Jonathan bowed to pressure and lifted the ban.

Removal of fuel subsidy
On 13 December 2011, the 2012 fiscal year's budget removed any provisions for the existing fuel subsidy.

According to a poll carried out by the Alliance for Credible Elections (ACE- Nigeria), 80% of Nigerians opposed the plan to remove the fuel subsidy.

On 1 January 2012, the Jonathan administration announced the start of a controversial plan to end fuel subsidies.

The government followed the advice of international experts that claimed the fuel subsidy ($8 billion per year, or 25% of the government annual budget was not sustainable.

Brookings Institution, a think tank, praised the government's move, arguing that the subsidy crowds out other development spending, like education, and that it discourages investment in the country's economic lifeblood, the oil sector.

Many prominent Nigerians spoke out against the removal of fuel subsidy by the Jonathan administration.

Former Petroleum Minister Professor Tam David-West has spoken out and expressed concern that the planned removal of the fuel subsidy will squeeze the economy, increase inflation, and hurt both businesses and the public.

A former military Head of State and a former Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources, General Buhari, urged President Jonathan not to remove the fuel subsidy and to tackle corruption.

General Yakubu Gowon, another former military Head of State, warned the government that the country 's infrastructure should be revived before fuel subsidy removal steps were taken.

Former military president Gen. Ibrahim Babangida joined millions of Nigerians protesting against the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Jonathan administration, saying that the action is ill-timed.

Following the Nigeria Labour Congress' warning that the country faces many strikes, the country unions followed up with strikes that were matched with civil protests from 9–13 January 2012.

Protesters and groups called for President Jonathan to resign over the removal of fuel subsidies. After five days of national protests and strikes, on 16 January, Jonathan announced that the pump price of petroleum would be 97 naira per litre compared with a post-subsidy level of 147 naira.

Renaming of the University of Lagos
In May 2012, President Jonathan changed the name of the University of Lagos to the Moshood Abiola University in honour of the late MKO Abiola.

The action draw attention from critics; among them were pro-Abiola advocates and parties involved with the university.

Some critics cited that the President did not submit an appropriate bill to the legislature for the change; that the University's brand name should not be tampered with.

The UNILAG Alumni Association commented that although they do not have prejudice against MKO Abiola, they were concerned "that neither the Governing Council nor the University Senate nor any other stakeholder was consulted before the change was announced."

Bola Tinubu congratulated Jonathan for taking action, but urged him to "do it right", adding that "we must be careful not to localise or sectionalise MKO".

The President has attempted to regularise the renaming of the school by submitting a bill for an amendment of the University's establishing law to the legislature but did not see the light of the day.

Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act
In January 2014, Jonathan signed into law the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act after it was passed by the Senate and House of Representatives.

The law prohibits gay relationships, membership and other involvement in gay societies and organisations and gay marriages.

The bill comes after international polls showed that 98% of Nigerians did not think homosexuality should be accepted by society, the highest percentage of any country surveyed.

Penalties can be up to 14 years in prison for gay marriages and up to 10 years for other violations of the law.

Within a short period, the federal police department compiled a list of 168 gay people who would subsequently be jailed. Within days, 38 lesbian and gay people were already jailed, with arrests beginning during Christmas.

The anti- LGBT bill stipulates that those who withhold the details of LGBT individuals face prison terms of up to 5 years. [70] His decision and the law itself have been described as controversial, but according to a poll, 92% of Nigerians supported the ban.

Controversies
During his South African magistrate court trial on 2 May 2012, MEND's (Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta) former leader, Henry Okah insisted that President Jonathan masterminded the 1 October 2010 independence day bomb attacks.

He told the court that President Jonathan and his aides organised the attacks in Abuja in a desperate political strategy to demonise political opponents, including the former military President General Ibrahim Babangida, and to win popular sympathy ahead of the 2011 elections.

The Nigerian Presidency has denied the allegations of terrorism leveled against President Jonathan.

A media statement was issued on 2 May 2012, acknowledging the accusations from Okah. The statement went on to say that: "The Presidency categorically affirms that these allegations are false in their entirety and without any factual foundation."

The Presidency also expressed no interest in commenting further for the time being, but planned to "make a full representation on the matter to the court when the trial opens."

In January 2013, Okah was found guilty by a South African court of 13 terrorism-related charges and sentenced to 24 years in jail.

In January 2015, Jonathan stated that due to his refusal to award MEND a higher share of the oil wealth, Okah bombed Abuja with the purpose of assassinating him.

The actions and inactions today will make your history tomorrow, do your best today because power is transient.

The 10 candidate have in a surprise move, thrown their weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, saying he is best suited among all the aspirants to take the state to the next level.

The candidates led by APGA’s flag-bearer, Chief Christopher Enai, made this known on Thursday when Sylva’s campaign train stormed Ekeremor, the local government area of the Minister for State (Agriculture), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.

Their withdrawal from their parties was accepted by the state APC Chairman, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe and the entire town was agog as party faithful and sympathisers were treated to music by popular Ijaw musician, Barrister Smooth as Sylva and his entourage arrived.

Enai, who disclosed this, however refused to give the names of other parties and the candidates who had withdrew as he wanted them to personally do so themselves.

He insisted that Sylva is the best candidate for the governorship, hence the reason why he and others withdrew.

“My withdrawal is not that I am leaving APGA entirely, I want a situation where we can achieve a new Bayelsa and I believe that the APC candidate can do it.

“My supporting APC is not that I do not have followers while in APGA but my reason is that I want to support my brother, Timipre Sylva, because, this is the time to face reality in Bayelsa politics.

“I must say that I am in love with APC, so, I am using this opportunity to call on our people to vote for the real change and for the good governance.

“Of course, I am not the only candidate leaving his party, I know them all but I am not in the right position to be mentioning them for publication.

“Right now, out of 20 political parties in the race, about 10 have stepped down for the APC candidate; but this is democracy and you have the right to join any party.”

In his remarks, Sylva said a new day has dawn in Bayelsa, and urged the people to embrace change in order to move the state to the next level of socio-economic and political development.

“I will link Sagbama with Ekeremor by road. I want to assure Bayelsans that I will not play ‘419’ because some people are doing 419 with the road. I will truly empower Ekeremor people and all areas in Bayelsa State,” the former governor stated.

Judge Bars Journalists From Covering Davido’s Dad’s Divorce Case

A judge in Osun State, Justice A. O. Oguntade, at the state High Court, Ede, has bared journalists from covering the divorce case of billionaire business man, Deji Adeleke and his estrange wife, Teju.
Deji Adeleke is Davido’s dad.

According to reports the judge asked journalists who were present in court on Monday when the matter was mentioned to vacate the court room.

The same thing was also repeated yesterday, Thursday, Nov. 19, when chief Adeleke was in court.

The journalists were politely asked to leave the court and were escorted out by a senior police officer.

Heard the billionaire said he doesn’t want his divorce going public.

My take:
If it were to be average people, court will not heed to this type of request....  Should We believe that we now have two different laws for we Nigerians.

One for the Super rich and the other for the poor......  If can't continue like this! #furious

KogiDecides: IG Arase Says 5 Policemen Per Polling Unit... Should We Call This Policerisation Of Election?

As the Kogi State election approches, the IG of police has made a statement that for every polling unit in Kogi, there will be 5 policemen.

Though I have no issue with that, because as a pure democrat, all what I want is a free and fair election and i believe that must equally be the intention of all good Nigerians not only Kogites.

But since the last gubernatorial  election of  Ekiti and Osun were tagged 'Militarized Election' because of the passived heavy presence of military men.

So what should We call this, where there will be heavy presence of policemen? Hope it will not be tagged 'Policerised Election'? Lol

Countdown to Friday, 21st of November when the election will old.....  Stay in touch for blow by blow updates as to the process.

GOODNEWS: First Nigeria-assembled Ford unveiled in Lagos

Ford Motor Company on Tuesday rolled out its first made-in-Nigeria vehicle, the Ranger, a pickup, which was assembled in Lagos in partnership with its local dealer firm, Coscharis Motors.

The unveiling of the new vehicle came about three months after the American automaker announced the decision to set up an assembly plant in Nigeria.

This was after the Federal Government had imposed a 70 per cent tariff on all imported vehicles as part of a new auto policy aimed at encouraging local production of vehicles.

The President and Chief Executive Officer, Ford Sub-Saharan Africa, Mr. Jeff Nemeth, said at the
presentation of the Ford Ranger that the company was starting with semi-knocked down operation and hoped to go into completely knocked down stage in due course.

According to him, the Ford Ranger trucks will be
assembled at the SKD level, using body parts and
components imported from Ford’s assembly plant in South Africa.

He also said the new factory, located in Ikeja, had the capacity to assemble 10 vehicles daily, and that the firm planned to increase the capacity anytime there was high demand.

“The facility will accommodate one shift and will
produce an initial 10 units per day for the Nigerian market, creating approximately 180 direct and indirect jobs.

Over time, this will gradually expand,” he said.
Jeff, who noted that the main driver behind Ford in Africa remained affordability, described the continent as one of the youngest markets in the
world, which offered a huge opportunity in terms of consumption.

“The buying power of the African consumer is on the rise as the continent’s middle class increases exponentially.
Despite infrastructure challenges, Africa has demonstrated impression returns on foreign direct investment,” he said.

The President of Coscharis Motors, Cosmas Maduka, said the Ford assembly plant project culminating in the unveiling of the Ranger was dream come true.

He said, “Today marks an important milestone when the cogs in the wheel really start to turn, not only for Ford in Nigeria, but in general for the Nigerian industry, which is receiving a much needed boost towards industrialisation and
the development of the automotive industry.

“We are committed to setting the bar high and establishing world-class, best practices in Nigeria that every other industrialist will have to be judged by. This is a major milestone for us
and marks another first in the evolution of our company.”

Maduka urged the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to fully support the auto policy because of the huge investments it would attract and its turnaround impact on the nation’s economy.

KogiDecides: INEC distributes sensitive materials to wards

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive materials that would be used in Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi State.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who was at the INEC office in Lokoja on Thursday to witness the distribution noted that the materials were escorted out to various destinations amidst tight security.

It was also observed that the distribution of the materials was done in the presence of the representatives of the Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress and other parties contesting the election.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Halilu Pai, who supervised the distribution, said that the materials included ballot papers and result sheets.

Pai said that the materials would be taken to the INEC offices in the 21 local government areas of the state from where they would later in the day be shared among the 239 wards.

According to him, the INEC is ready and committed to conduct a free, fair, credible and acceptable election.

He urged political parties, security agents and other stakeholders to play their roles according to the rules.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner also gave
assurances that the fuel scarcity currently being
experienced in the state would not in any way impact negatively on the process and outcome of the election.

He said that the commission had made arrangements with some filling stations that would sell fuel to all vehicles on election duty, and that the stations had been prevailed upon to operate on 24-hour basis beginning from Friday.

PoliFocus Condemns The Ban Of Small Generators By The FG

The news of ban on importation of small generators popularly known as 'I big pass my neighbour' took over the social media and conventional media.

This revelation was made by the Controller Federation Operations Unit Zone A, Lagos of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Madugu Sanni Jubrin when speaking with newsmen.

According to him, the small generators are banned by Federal Government because they are causing air pollution and destruction of lungs and breathing system.

To me, this reason is primitive and utopia, the people that died due to the poisonous gas that is being emitted from this generators were a bit careless.

Going by its manual, it is always stated that the generators should be placed a substantial distance away from closed area (indoor). This in short means that they should always be placed outdoor.

For the fact that some sector of people malhandled the usage of the generators shouldn't make federal government to take a blanket decision as to it.

The advantages of the generators are far above the disadvantages. It is true that we voted for "change" but what we should get is a "change for better" not the other way round.

Governance is all about providing succur in basic and social lives of the citizenry. The step can be seen as a very nice one but ill-timed.

Read Also: SHOCKER: FG Bans Importation Of Small Generators Popularly Called ‘I Pass My neighbour’

For Federal Government to ban them, there should be viable alternative or even alternatives. The electricity supply is still epileptic, no increment in the power generation lately.

It is callous for FG to expect a child that is still crawling to be running, should be first thing first. President Muhammadu Buhari led government should not commit the same mistake that immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan did as regards power.

Jonathan wasted his energy on power distribution instead of power generation. The so-called DISCO can only distribute what is available to them.

Power should be fixed first, after which this kind of anti-people policy can be debated. Though the emergence of Barr Babatunde Fashola  as the super minister that is overseeing power presently may bring about some notable change(s) in the sector going by his antecedent as the Governor of Lagos State.

This policy will bring about untold hardship on the masses, in term of having an alternative to power supply from so-called DISCO. In that the generators are pocket friendly and easy to maintain in term of servicing and fuel consumption.

Moreover, this satanic idea will lead to job loss, for instance, mobile phone chargers, generator seller and repairers, small shop owners that rely solely on electricity such as barbers, fashion designers, computer center owners.

It will have a multiplier effects on the economy of the people at the lower rung of the ladder. If the present government can't make life beautiful for us, they should leave us the way they met us!

You don't just ban something without providing an alternative at least... Can we produce it locally? The answer is NO.
I call on the widely loved President Muhammadu Buhari to call the custom to order and if at all they are carrying out his order, the issue should be debated in our hallow chambers.

This ill-timed cum satanic decision should not allow to stand!!!

Saraki CCT 's Trial: CJN To Set Up Fresh Supreme Court Panel

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, is set to set up a fresh panel that will hear the appeal filed by Senate President Bukola Saraki, challenging the jurisdiction and competence of the charges by the Code of Conduct Tribunal over alleged false asset declaration preferred against him.

Our correspondent learnt on Wednesday that the CJN  was set to disband the Justice John Fabiyi-led five-member panel which on November 12, 2015, granted an order of a stay of proceedings in the Senate President’s trial before the CCT.

A valedictory court session is to be held for Justice Fabiyi, who attains the retirement age of 70 on November 25, 2015, his birthday.

Other Justices of the Supreme Court, who are on the panel with Justice Fabiyi, are Justices Suleiman Galadima, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, John Okoro and Amiru Sanusi.

The decision to disband the panel, according to judiciary sources, is partly due to the outcry generated by the Supreme Court’s ruling and the imminent retirement of Justice Fabiyi from the bench on November 25.

Eminent lawyers, including Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chief Folake Solanke (SAN), Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), Jiti Ogunye and Malachy Ugwummadu, had described the Supreme Court’s ruling as contravening provisions of sections 306 and 369 of the new Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

The ACJA prohibits granting of a stay of proceedings in criminal cases.
Sources said the CJN, who was on an official trip abroad when the Supreme Court’s ruling was delivered on November 12, would likely head the fresh panel to be constituted.

It was learnt that Mohammed might head the fresh panel that would be constituted due to a number of contentious issues in the appeal filed by Saraki in his appeal.

A source said, “With the public interest in the case and coupled with the retirement of Justice Fabiyi next week Wednesday, the panel has to be disbanded.

“It is the practice of the Supreme Court that when a number of contentious constitutional issues are raised in an appeal such as this one (Saraki’s case), the CJN is likely to head such appeal panel.”

The media aide to the CJN, Mr. Ahuraka Isah, said he was not in a position to confirm the development.

“There is no way I can know what has happened or what will happen. It is strictly a judicial issue that cannot come within my knowledge,” Isah, who spoke to our correspondent on Wednesday, said.

With the order of a stay of proceedings by the Supreme Court, the CCT, which had on November 5, adjourned till November 19 for the commencement of Saraki’s trial, must await the decision of the apex court on the Senate President’s main appeal.

Saraki, through his lawyers, led by Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), had appealed to the Supreme Court to challenge the September 30, 2015 judgment of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed that the 13 counts of false asset declaration preferred against him before the CCT were competent.

The appeal court also affirmed that the Justice Danladi Umar-led CCT had the required jurisdiction to entertain the charges against the Senate President.

All the arguments by Saraki’s lawyers against the jurisdiction of the CCT and competence of the charges preferred against him before the tribunal were dismissed by a two-to-one split judgment of the Court of Appeal.

But the issues dismissed by the Court of Appeal form Saraki’s seven grounds of appeal, which his lawyers filed before the Supreme Court.

Following an application by Saraki’s lawyers for the appeal to be heard by the full panel of the Supreme Court, the number of Justices in the fresh panel will likely increase from five to seven.

The full panel of the Supreme Court comprises seven Justices as against five that were in the old panel.
Part of the appellant’s grounds of appeal to be finally decided by the apex court are whether the proceedings of the CCT, which sat with only two members as against the three provided for in the provisions of Paragraph 15(1) of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution, are competent.

The appellant also faulted the majority decision of the appeal court, where it held that there was a lacuna regarding the quorum of the tribunal.

The Supreme Court will also decide whether the CCT is a court of limited criminal jurisdiction as held by the Court of Appeal.

Meanwhile, a Lagos-based lawyer, Johnson
Esezoobo, has called on the CJN to review the granting of a stay of proceedings in the trial of the Senate President at the tribunal.

A statement by Esezoobo on Tuesday described the decision by the Supreme Court as an abuse of and misuse of power, advising that “institutional safeguards should be put against abuse and misuse of power”.

He said, “From the provisions of the constitution, it is absolutely not a difficult issue to resolve except that the remedy available is not what we have been used to in our democratic practice.

“If it is agreed that when an illegality is committed, it must be redressed, we must also find out how to go about it under the constitution.”

According to Esezoobo, the order in the Saraki’s case marked the first time the apex court would commit an illegality, adding that the illegality this time round concerned a vexed national issue agitating the minds of the populace.

Esezoobo added, “I sincerely believe that the President as the Head of State and Chief Executive of the Federation, by virtue of Section 130 of the constitution, has the power to express concern and call on the CJN to explain what happened.
“He can do this through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation as the chief law officer of the state.

In his capacity, the President as the chief executive can, through the AGF, direct the Federal Judicial Service Commission or the National Judicial Council, both as Federal Executive bodies under the Third Schedule to the Constitution, to query all the justices of the Supreme Court involved in this scandalous illegality.”

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Make Ozekhome, has however, faulted the criticisms trailing the order of a stay of proceedings granted Senate President Bukola Saraki by the Supreme Court on his false asset declaration trial.

Ozekhome described the criticisms of the order by human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), and Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) as incredible “perverse interpretation” of the law, contending that the senior advocates “seek to bind the Supreme Court with the uninterpreted provisions of a law that only applies to trial courts”.

Ozekhome, in an opinion article titled ‘Awomolo-Falana’s comment – A case of unfortunate sentiments Vs law’, argued that Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, which states that “an application for a stay of proceedings in respect of a criminal matter before the court shall not be granted,” only applied to the trial court, and not to appellate courts.

“It ought to be noted that the trial of Saraki, which is currently before the CCT, is not before the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

From the plain wording of section 306, the ACJA does not apply to the Supreme Court of Nigeria, or any other appellate court for that matter, but to the CCT,” he added.

#EKITIGATE: Kaduna Military Panel: Ekiti PDP disowns ex-scribe, Tope Aluko

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has frowned at the impersonation of the position of the State Secretary of the party by one Dr Tope Aluko at the ongoing military panel on the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.

The party has equally warned that whatever is recorded by the military panel in the name of the said impersonator on the involvement of military in the Ekiti election will render the whole exercise illegal and a charade.

In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, the PDP said that it was ridiculous that a non-member of the party could be admitted to testify in the name of PDP despite a widely publicity expulsion of the fellow by the party on 31st July, 2015.

Adebayo explained that the expelled secretary had only demonstrated the traits of anti-party activities that led to his expulsion, adding that
there was nothing objective or reliable that could be taken from him in this case.

He noted that Aluko, who testified on oath as principal witness for the PDP at the election petition tribunal, would only be confining himself to the wrath of the law having chosen to negate same after he had said that the election was free and fair to the Supreme Court level.

According to him, Aluko and four members of the State Working Committee were expelled on the 31st of July, 2015, while the National Working Committee of the party upheld the expulsion on the 4th of November, 2015 via a letter signed by the National Organising Secretary, Abubarka Mustapha.

In the letter from the national secretariat of the party, the replacement of the expelled officers were also approved with Pastor Tope Anjorin as the new State Secretary of the party, while Mrs Yemisi Afolabi was named as the State Woman Leader.

Other officers appointed by the party included Gbuyiro Sunday as the Vice-Chairman Ekiti North and Mojeed Azzez Apempe as the new State Auditor.

PDP stressed that it was appalling and shameful that somebody that was expelled from the party based on his disloyalty to the party and gross
indiscipline could now be admitted as a witness before a respected military panel.

“We want to say categorically that Dr TKO Aluko is no longer the Secretary of PDP in Ekiti State neither is he a member of the party again, our Secretary is Pastor Tope Anjorin, so anybody dealing with the expelled member is only doing so at his or her own risk, as well as dealing with an impersonator.”
