Kogi: I’m not aware of Kogi APC’s ‘no confidence’ vote –Yahaya Bello

I’m not aware of Kogi APC’s ‘no confidence’ vote –Yahaya Bello
Governor Yahaya Bello
The Executive Council of the All Progressives Congressin Kogi State has passed a ‘vote of no confidence’ in Governor Yahaya Bello.

This was contained in its letter to the national headquarters of the APC through the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.The letter, dated April 12, 2016, was signed by about 33members of Kogi APC executives after their meeting in Lokoja, the state capital, on Monday.

Bello has, however, denied knowledge of the vote passed on him. He urged aggrieved members of the ruling party to be patient with his administration.

The Kogi APC executive, in a communiqué after the meeting, which was made public on Saturday in Lokoja, accused Bello of sidelining it and other organs and members of the party in running the affairs of the state.

Kogi APC also accused the governor of hobnobbing with members of the Peoples Democratic Party, the main opposition party in the state.

It added that Bello was giving power back to the PDP through the back door. The party leadership, based on several allegations against the governor, passed a resolution in the meeting that “henceforth, we will have nothing to do with the government of Yahaya Bello.”

Members of the executive, in their letter, requested that the national leadership of APC should not allow the governor to have a hand in producing the next ministerial nominee from the state to replace the former Minister of State for Labour, Mr. James Ocholi, who died in a road accident along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway recently.

The Kogi executive of the APC pleaded with the national secretariat of the party and the Presidency to work with the state party leaders in appointing Ocholi’s replacement.

Parts of their resolutions included: “That a communiqué be issued from this meeting to the national secretariat, national leaders and the Presidency, making these observations known to them.

“That the state (APC) council should cry out for help to the national secretariat, national leaders and the presidency; that we should invite all our members in the state House of Assembly to intervene, with a view to uniting them; that we will henceforth have nothing to do with the government of Yahaya Bello.

“In view of the above, we plead to the national leaders and the Presidency to consider the state’s ministerial nominee from legacy party, so our party will not collapse.”

Members of the party executive further alleged that all the 45 appointments said to have been made so far by Bello were from the PDP and that he had failed to appoint any member of the ruling party in the state.

The APC executive also accused Bello of masterminding the ongoing crisis in the state House of Assembly. But Bello, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr. Abdulkarim Abdulmalik, said the state government was not aware of the vote of no confidence in the governor.Abdulmalik urged aggrieved members of the party to be patient with the governor, adding that the administration was still new and that the governor will carry everybody on board.

He said, “We are not aware of that (vote of no confidence). Nevertheless, it is an internal issue. Whatever be their grouse, they can resolve it through internal structure of the party.

The national secretariat is there to intervene if there is any internal political crisis in the state. So, we are not aware of such development.“Those who have a grouse with the governor need to bepatient.

The government is still very young. It is less than three months old. The governor has promised thathis leadership is going to be premised on the principle of ‘all-inclusiveness.’“

When you want to do that, definitely, a few people will be unhappy. Notwithstanding, that is not enough to create any serious risk. Whoever has a grouse, the party structure is there to intervene and resolve the issue.” - Today.ng
