Manchester City Confirm Gael Clichy Exit |PoliFocus

Manchester City have confirmed the departure of full-back Gael Clichy ahead of the summer transfer window.

The France international moved to the Etihad Stadium from Premier League rivals Arsenal in 2011.

Six productive years in Manchester have delivered 192 appearances, with those outings taking in two Premier League title wins, two League Cup successes and a Community Shield triumph.

It is now time to move on, though, with the 31-year-old set to drop into the free agent pool.“It’s been a special six years for me at City,” Clichy told the club’s official website.

“To win four major trophies and help establish the Club as one of the top teams in English football has been an incredible journey that I’m proud to have been a part of.

“It’s amazing to see where the Club is today and I am sure there is plenty more success to come.”

City director of football Txiki Begiristain has paid tribute to the Frenchman, saying: “Gael has been an important player for this football club and I want to wish him well for the future.

“Since my first day here, he has been an outstanding in the way he has applied himself, both in games and in training.”

Clichy is just one of a number of players set to be out of contract at the Etihad this summer.

Pep Guardiola will be looking to freshen up his ranks when the transfer window re-opens, so that means more departures are to be expected in order to make room for the incomings.
