UCL: Real Madrid Defender, Carvajal Banned For PSG Clash |PoliFocus

Real Madrid will be without their right-back, Dani Carvajal, when they take on Paris Saint-Germain in next week’s Champions League round of 16 clash.

UEFA, on Thursday, rejected the Spanish club’s appeal over his suspension.

Carvajal was handed a two-match ban by Europe’s football governing body in December, after being charged for deliberately seeking a yellow card during his team’s 6-0 win over Apoel Nicosia on November 21.

The 26-year-old was booked for time wasting, which was his third yellow card in the competition, initially triggering a one-match ban.

He missed the final group-stage clash with Borussia Dortmund last year, but must now complete the suspension on February 14 when PSG travel to the Santiago Bernabeu to face the current competition holders.

“The appeal lodged by Real Madrid CF has been dismissed and the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB)’s decision of 7 December is confirmed. Given that Carvajal did not participate in the match between Real Madrid CF and Borussia Dortmund played on 6 December 2017, the player still has to serve one (1) UEFA competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible,” a statement from UEFA’s disciplinary body said.

Carvajal will be available for the return leg in Paris on March
