Ogun State Investors' Forum: VP, World Leaders, Industrialists, Others Hail Ogun's Investment Drive |PoliFocus

Former Mexican President, Mr. Felipe Calderon, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibajo, former Chief Business Officer, Google X, Mr. Mo Gawdat Salem, investors and dignitaries, from all walks of life, yesterday converged on Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, for the fourth edition of the state's Investors' Forum.

Osibajo, at two-day event, with the theme, "Consolidating the Gains, Accelerating Growth", lauded Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his administration, for massively investing in infrastructure, security and education.

This, according to him, has greatly attracted investors and increased the ease of doing business in the state.
The vice president said the governor deserved commendation, noting that he has been consistently receptive to the development aganda of the President Mohammadu Buhari led Federal Government.

Amosun, in his speech, said the essence of the forum is to reassure the investor's, that despite the fact that his administration is winding down, there is a solid foundation on ground to build and rest on.

The theme, according to him, is focused at building on the success of the past and give the state another opportunity to map-out new improved strategies, that will deepen the benefits of previous editions and create new opportunities for growth.

He noted that at inception of his administration in 2011, the state was largely public sector driven, with minimal private participation, but the government however introduced robust private sector participation, which has resulted in the establishment of about 304 industries in the state.

Aware that the need for power will increase as the state's economy grows, Amosun revealed that his administration has explored alternative power source, by entering into partnership with a private firm, to develop the Lisabi Independent Power Plant at Onijanganjangan, Abeokuta, towards supplying 12 megawatts of power.

The governor added that his government has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding, with eight private sector power providers, for the establishment of a total of 314 megawatts in different parts of the state.

Keynote Speaker and former President of Mexico, Mr. Felipe Calderon highlighted lack of respect for the rule of law, lack of political will and corruption, as reasons for failure of governments, adding that the challenge needs to be addressed.
He called on Nigerian leaders to sincerely invest in people and build human capacity, through technical and vocational skills acquisition as well as infrastructure, energy and security.

Minister for Finance and one of the Lead Discussants, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, while speaking on the formula adopted by the Federal Government towards reviving the nation's economy, disclosed that, rather than cut down on spending, which will lead to job loss, it pumped more money into the system to fix the deficits in infrastructure and agriculture.

Saying the initiative is yielding positive impact on the economy, she was optimistic that the outlook for Nigeria is extremely positive.

"We have began to diversify from oil dependency into other sectors of the economy, having seen clearly that oil is not the solution", she said, enjoining investors to be fast in keying into the opportunities that abound in Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo, said that state has prioritised the production of high value food crops, through intensional support for farmers, by allocating land with ease, single digit finance and the capacity building of the stakeholders in the sector.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh and his counterpart in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah were among the dignitaries at the event.
