2018 W'Cup Qualifiers: John Ogu, Dele Alampasu Recalled For Algeria Clash |PoliFocus

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has handed recalls to midfielder John Ogu and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria, fcnaija.com reports.

Ogu, who plays for Israeli champions Hapoel Be’er Sheva, has been one of Nigeria’s most standout players in Europe over the last one year and was voted the best foreign player in Israel last season after he helped his club to the Israeli championship.

He has continued from where he stopped last season, and has been in fine form for Be’er Sheva both in the Israeli Ligat ha’Al and also in the Europa league.

There were concerns before the opening World Cup qualifier against Zambia earlier this month when Rohr appeared to have ruled out Ogu from his plans, but his inclusion will come asa surprise to many.

His last game for Nigeria came in a 2-0 defeat of Chad in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kaduna in June 2015.Alampasu, meanwhile, is a surprise call-up, as he has been under the radar since was last called to the Super Eagles, which was for the 2018 World Cup preliminary round qualifier against Swaziland.

The 19-year old has been a super regular since joining Cesarense in Portugal’s second tier on loan from CD Feirense in the summer, in spite of his parent club gaining promotion to the Portuguese top flight as he couldn’t get enough playing time.

The full list is expected to be made public over the weekend.
