The infants were forgotten in the cabs by their families and the RTA officials treated the cases with utmost importance, said Ahmed Mahboob, director at the executive directorate of the service of customers at the RTA.
In two separate incidents, Dubai cabbies found two bags containing 44kg of gold. In the first incident, a taxi driver found 24kg of gold in a bag forgotten by a passenger and another passenger left a bag in a cab, which contained 20kg of gold and $20,000, Mahboob told an Arabic daily, adding that all the precious things were returned to the owners.
Other items found by taxi drivers included bags, wallets, keys, passports, clothing, sunglasses and electronic devices.
He said that the RTA, in coordination with the franchise companies, will install cameras in all taxis, in order to reduce the rate of losses and to enhance security and safety of passengers.
Last year, a total of 53,198 lost and found cases were reported, among which 3,416 were incomplete. During the first two months of 2017, the number of cases reached 9,131.
He said police reports or details of the trip would be helpful in recovering the items lost in taxis.
