And scans soon showed that Dembele had ruptured one of his biceps femoris, meaning he’ll be out of action for four months.
But the 20-year-old has now been operated on without any problems by doctors in Finland.
And Dembele will start on his lengthy recovery as Barcelona look to ensure there’s been no lasting damage.
But he’s in safe hands at the Helsinki clinic where the likes of Thomas Vermaelen and Pep Guardiola have also been helped by leading surgeon Dr Sakari Orava.
Dembele will now miss a number of key fixtures for Barcelona and could be out of the entire Champions League group stages.
However, he could return in time for the first El Clasico of the La Liga season two days before Christmas.
