An Edo State High Court sitting in Benin, yesterday, restrained the leadership of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Chief Dan Orbih, from conducting the party’s congresses until the hearing of the substantive matter brought before it.

It will be recalled that Mr Ehi Osula, from Ward 12 Oredo, and others, had approached the court in Benin, urging it to declare as illegal, the continued stay in office of the current leadership of the party whose tenure expired on September 24, 2015.

But despite the suit, the Orbih-led PDP allegedly concluded plans to conduct congresses across the 192 wards in the state for February 24, 2016, ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The claimant, through his counsel, Matthew Edaghese, asked the court to restrain the Chief Orbih-led exco from conducting the congresses until hearing of the motion on notice.

Trial judge, Justice Ikpomnwen in his ruling, granted the injunction and adjourned further hearing till February 29, 2016.
