Kayode Fayemi |
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has summoned all the directors of finance and the directors of administrations that served under the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi in all the 16 local government areas of the state to Abuja over alleged N25 billion scam, the Authority reports.
The summon, was in continuation of the anti-graft agency’s investigation of the alleged misappropriation of over N25billion under the former governor currently serving as Minister of Solid Minerals under the present government.
An impeccable source at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said that a letter was received from the anti-graft agency asking for the release of the affected officers for interrogation last week.Subsequently, the ministry was said to have written to all the local councils to work out and defray the transportation costs of the affected officers who were expected to report at the ICPC office on Thursday, March 3.
Our source disclosed that parts of the projects being investigated are the ones that local government allocations were used to finance such as the five-kilometre road per year, per local government.Others, he said, include the renovation and construction of schools as well as the provisions of furniture and laptops to these schools.
“When we received the letter, we immediately directed all the councils to immediately effect the release of the affected officers.“I think the invitation is just part of the routine interaction with staff of the state’s civil service.
I can also confirm to you that ICPC was in the state recently on fact finding on the issue. It was learnt that of what the ICPC is beaming its searchlight on is the N852,936,713.92 State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) counterpart fund, which was allegedly withdrawn eight days to the end of Fayemi’s tenure.
