Senate Today: See The Senate Proceedings For Today, 10th of March, 2016

Following the adoption of the votes and proceedings of the last plenary of March 9, 2016, the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had again another productive legislative day as summarized below:

POINT OF ORDER:

Senate Chief Whip Olusola Adeyeye raised a Point of Order on personal explanation regarding the unbundling of the NNPC. He informed that the appropriate committee has summoned the Petroleum Minister. He however emphasized on the need to work onthe‪ PIB‬.

PRESENTATION OF BILLS

Six Bills were presented today for their first readings. 

They are:
1. Public Private Partnership Regulatory Commission (Est. Etc.) Bill,2016 (SB. 213).
2. Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (Est. Etc.) Bill, 2016 (SB. 230)
3. Electoral Act No. 6 2010 (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (SB. 231).
4. Public Procurement (Establishment,etc.) Act 2004 (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (SB. 232).
5. Electoral Act 2010 (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (SB. 234).
6. FCT Borderline Communities Development Commission (Est. Etc.) Bill, 2016 (SB. 235).

PRESENTATION OF REPORT

Report of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in respect of a petition from TRLP Law on behalf of Senator Buruji Kashamu against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

CONSIDERATION OF BILLS

The Senate considered two bills:

1. A Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) to train, educate and re-orient the youths of this nation, particularly students, to facilitate Peace and Youth Development and for other related matters by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Senate Leader).

2. A Bill for an Act to establish Nigerian Unity and Peace Corps to uphold and impart the attributes of the National Ethics for restating diligence; rekindle and rejuvenate the virtues of discipline in the citizenry, build a society of resourceful and productive persons for national consciousness and for other matters by Senator Binta marsi Garba (Adamawa North).

CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS

The Senate took in four reports. 

They are:
1. Report of the Committee on Special Duties on “Establishment of Presidential Intervention Committee on the rehabilitation of the Northeast zone” by Senator Abdul-Aziz Murtala Nyako (Adamawa Central)
2. Report of the Joint Committee on Health and Agriculture and Rural Development by Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso (Ogun Central)
3. Report of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in respect of a petition from Mr. Adeleke Mark against Nigeria Customs Services for alleged wrongful retirement from Service.
4. Report of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in respect of a petition from Mr. Meseko Olugbenga Felix against the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) for wrongful dismissal from service.

MOTIONS

Two motions were moved on the floor of the red chamber of the Nigerian Senate. 

They are:
1. “Urgent need to review the Escravos Gas Project (EGP3)/Escravos Gas to Liquid (EGTL) Project by NNPC/Chevron and SASOL S.A” by Senator Hope Uzodinma (Imo West).
2. “Pandemic rise of road traffic accidents in Nigeria” by Senator Malam Ali Wakili, MNI (Bauchi South)Having concluded on all matters on the order paper, the Leader of Senate therefore moved for the adjournment of the plenary. 

The Senate President put the question forward and the sitting was adjourned till March 15, 2016.
