Senate Today: Read Senate Proceedings Wednesday 4th May, 2016

Following the adoption of votes and proceedings of 3rd May 2016 Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura moves for the approval and. Senator Ovie Omo - Agege seconds.  The Nigeria senate had a productive legislative day.
Senate President Bukola Saraki Presided over Plenary.



POINTS OF ORDER

Senator Na'Allah raised a Point of Order based on personal explanation on the demise of Senator Danladi Bamaiyi who represented Kebbi South in the Senate 1999-2003.
Senate President puts the question and 1 minute silent was observed for Late Danladi Bamaiyi.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu raised a Point of Order on personal explanation on duplication of responsibilities. The Senate President stated that he will meet with those concerned to resolve the duplications.

PRESENTATION OF BILL FOR FIRST READING

5 bills passed first reading they are;
1.       Sexual harassment in Tertiary Institutions Bill 2016 SB. 262 by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (Delta Central and 46 Others.

2.       Chartered Institute of Administration Act (Amendment) Bill 2016 SB. 263 by Senator Joshua Dariye (Plateau Central).

3.       Payment Systems Management Bill 2016 SB. 268 by Senator John O. Enoh (Cross River Central Senatorial District).

4.       Constitution (Alteration) Bill 2016 SB. 271 by Senator Gbolahan Dada (Ogun West Senatorial District).

5.       Federal University, Wukari (Est. Etc.) Bill 2016 by Senator Emmanuel Bwacha (Taraba South).

CONSIDERATION OF BILL FOR SECOND READING

1.       A Bill for an Act to establish the National Agricultural Credit Fund to promote commercial Agriculture in Nigeria ensure credit support for production, storage and processing of target commodities, market development, Agricultural Enterprise & for other related matters 2016 SB. 20 by Senator Mao Ohabunwa of Abia North Senatorial District.

Senators Ibrahim Gobir, Ahmed Lawan, Aliyu Wammako, Emmanuel Bwacha , Abdullahi  Adamu, Abubakar Bukar, Abubakar kyari, Jibrin Barau, Dino Melaye, Abubakar Gemade, Buka Ibrahim and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremmadu all spoke in support of the bill.

CONSIDERATION OF REPORT

Report of the Joint Committees on Police Affairs, National Security & Intelligence in respect of a motion on the unfortunate recurrence of kidnapping and hostage - taking in Nigeria: A National Wake Up.
Senators Shehu Sanni, Bala Ibn N’allah, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Godswill Akpabio, Gbenga Ashafa, Dino Melaye,Ben Murray Bruce, Ovie Omo – Agege, and the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremmadu all reacted in support of the report.

ADJOURNMENT

The deputy senate leader Ibn Bala N’ Allah moved for other items of the order paper to be stood down to another legislative day and adjournment, minority senate leader Senator Godswill Akpabio seconds.
Senate President puts the question and the Senate adjourned to Thursday 4th April, 2016.
