Nigerian Ministerial Designates, Age or Experience?

The ripples that were created aftermath of the nomination, screening and approval by the Bukola Saraki led upper chamber might have finally be laid to rest.

The much awaited list of the ministerial nominees was sent to the senate after over ninety days of wait by President Muhammadu Buhari to the senate President, the list which came in two batches was made public by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The ministerial list has been generating a lot of heated debate, some criticised it saying that it doesn't worth the wait while some commended the calibre of people whose names appeared on the list.

If you ask me, I will categorically say that these crop of people are recycled beings, virtually all have been tested with a political office or another.

But the annoying part is that some of them performed below expectation while in office but being card carrying members of All Progressives Congress (APC), they are now claiming to be saints.

It can be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari rode  to Aso Rock (Nigeria's sent of power like the White House)  due to his antecedents about corruption and he has indeed justified that to a level by making his declaration of assets public, his vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo also followed suit.

But for the ministers' designates to boldly say that they can't make public is a thing of concern.  President Muhammadu Buhari has said it in different fora that people that will work with him should be ready to made their assets public.
Will President Muhammadu Buhari be able to influence them as to them?  Only time will tell.

Declaration assets only to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) is not enough, the general public should be carried along and this in turn will make public holders accountable to the citizenry.

It has been in the news the ongoing trial of the incumbent President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki over his false declaration of assets to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Though he went to the Court of Appeal to stop his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) but lost, report has it that he has approached the Supreme Court for same since the Court of Appeal couldn't deliver its judgement in his favour.

Also in the news is the trial of Godswill Orubebe, the former minister for Niger-Delta under the administration of former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan that almost ruined the announcement of the last general election at the International Conference Center, Abuja that is billed to start on November 7th.

He Will be tried over false declaration of assets along side a bribe of N70bn at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Nigerians will not forget his name so soon at least due to the role that he played during the last general election.

Scanning through the list, majority of them are over fifty years of age, does it symbolises that Nigerian Youths cannot be trusted?

Some of the crop of leaders Nigeria now showcases started building their political carrers in their last 20s but the reverse is the case now.

Nigerian youths are seen now as political tools for winning elections but I don't blame the politicians but the shortsighted youths that couldn't see beyond their noses thereby trading their future cum fortunes for pot of porridge.

The dirty politics that is being at the level of Students' Union Government (SUG) in various tertiary institutions in Nigeria is nothing to write home about.

Should I talk about National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that has been politicised and monetized?
We have heard of a political party in Nigeria that appointed a man of above sixty years as the youths coordinator.......  that is indeed hilarious!

Though I'm not saying that experience is not needed in the smooth running of government, but same experience cannot be gotten from the school.

Youths should be given its prime place in the affairs of governance, through that, needed experience will be gotten.
The naked fact is that all these recycled leaders will leave the state in the cause of time, either willingly or not, because no one lives forever.

Conclusion

As Nigerians await the announcement of the portfolios of their new minister, the awaiting ministers should bear it in their minds that is a call to selfless service and their accountability is germane to all Nigerians.

They should work hand-in-hand with Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari so that his 'change agenda' could be achieved.

Youths should be made commissioners and minister of youths affairs, this will made the youths to feel among, they will understand the plight of their fellow youths.

As to the youths, Nigerians youths should shun social vices and be industrious and truthful. These will place them at a vantage position for elective and selective political positions.

"Power is transient, do your best while you are in a position because you will be judged tomorrow by your today's actions or inactions'
