Ali Sheriff As PDP Chair; A Legendary Blunder

PDP-Chair Ali Sheriff
Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, PDP Chair
It is no longer news that the largest opposition party in Africa, People's Democratic Party (PDP) has formally announced Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as it its chairman.

This development was made known on 16th of February, 2016 and was subsequently sworn-in same day.

This announcement has been generating a lot of controversies among the political climes.

No doubt, his antecedent and alleged link to the emergence of the dreaded Islamic sect, known as Boko Haram can't but be said to be a factor to this ugly development.

Sherrif who was a two term governor of Borno State and one time Senator. He was in office as governor between May 29, 1999 and May 29, 2003.

It is worth of note to state that he was the first governor to serve two terms in Borno State.

He was elected under the platform of All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) but letter join All Progressives Congress (APC) as a founding member.

In 2014, Sheriff defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). During his tenure as the governor, many documents were allegedly linked to him as regard the sponsorship of boko haram.

A toddler in Nigeria will be ready to stone any person or group of persons that has something to do with the Boko Haram due to the damages that the have done to the North-East and country at large.

Wanton destructions of lives and properties are being recorded by the day!!

PDP should have gone for someone with no questionable character at this time when the party is still wallowing in the pool of serial electoral defeat.

Following the tsunamic and historic humiliation suffered at the 2015 general elections.

To me, the leader that the party needs now is someone that can give it a face-lift and give it a required rebrand needed, so that the party will not die a natural death.

Though the incursion of the former aide to Goodluck Jonathan, Gulak cannot but be a hidden factor for this shallow cum rash decision to find a replacement for Secondus that was sacked by the court.

But the party should have taken its time by not adding salt to injury. As it is now, over 20 Senators and 70 House of Representatives members are threatening to leave the party due to this new development.

It is never too late to make amendments, so that the party can recover from the electoral shock by doing the needful.

The question now is:
Can Ali Modu Sheriff win your heart to vote for dying PDP??? To majority of Nigerians, the answer might be hell NO!

Although the decision of National Working Committee (NWC) to select him has been faulted in many quarters, the onus now lies on him (Sherrif) to prove his critics wrong.

If the new chairman is unable to salvage this ugly situation, I see the party breaking up, sooner than expected!
