Nigeria’s Democracy Needs 'Fourth Arm Of Government' —Ekiti Speaker

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole has said that the nation’s democracy needs a ‘fourth arm of government’ which he called a prayer band.
According to Daily Post, Oluwawole said this on account of the first anniversary of the Fifth Assembly of the state legislature, explaining that it was able to come this far and stabilize as a result of its combination of the power of prayer with the power of government.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Saturday, the Speaker charged authorities at the federal level to understand the place of prayer in governance and accord it its rightful place so that the country would be able to surmount its current numerous challenges.

Oluwawole said; “It has not been easy coming this far. We have done a lot within the first one year. We have stabilized. But we owe it all to what I call the fourth arm of government that we have come to recognize in this state – prayer.

It is our resolve and ability to combine the power of government bestowed on us by the constitution with the power of prayer given to us byGod. That is why today’s (Sunday) thanksgiving service is important to us as a House.

“At this critical moment of its existence, Nigeria needs this fourth arm of government too. The powers of the executive, legislature and judiciary alone are not enough to steer the ship of this nation out of troubled waters.

We need prayers and not just hypocritical type of prayers. Remember, the prayer of the righteous availeth much.“I make bold to say that it is God, through answered prayers, that has stabilized Ekiti and give us as a House of Assembly to be celebrating today.

“We are also thankful to our constituents, the electorate in general, local and international agencies as well as civil society groups for their support for the Ayodele Fayose-led government in Ekiti State.

We are grateful to the state governor for the enabling environment he has provided for the Assembly to function optimally, despite the paucity of funds that characterized a better part of the period under review.”

The Speaker also pledged that the House would have abetter scorecard for the second year it would be beginning (tomorrow) Monday.
