Busted!! NSCDC in secret recruitment as top officers share slots

There are strong indications that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps may have been recruiting personnel secretly through the back door.

It was learnt that the top officers of the corps were involved in the employment racketeering.

Findings indicate that vacancy slots had been shared among the management team and the state commandants of the corps.

Sources stated that the list of new recruits had been compiled, adding that appointment letters would soon be issued to the beneficiaries of the racketeering.

“The letters would be backdated by several months and payments are likely to be made; the new recruits are to be deployed in the states,”a source stated.

Another source called on the government to carry out an audit of the corps, saying the personnel strength of the agency was not up to 50,000.

He said, “I wonder why on many occasions, especially during yuletide, the management of the corps would claim to have deployed about 50,000 personnel to protect infrastructure nationwide.

“It is all propaganda because we don’t have up to that number and if the management claims we have such staff strength, then it means we have a lot of ghost workers.”

But the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Okeh denied that the corps was recruiting secretly, noting that it just got approval from the Presidency to recruit in March, 2016.

“We hear a lot of information about ongoing recruitment in the corps, but we don’t take it seriously again because we have come to the realisation that it is desperation by people to get employment that made them to make such allegations; we are neither employing now nor doing replacing,” he explained.
