Indian Plane Turns Around After Rat Spotted On Board

An Air India flight to London has been forced to turn around after a rat was spotted scurrying around the cabin.

Passengers on the plane, which had set off from Mumbai, noticed the rodent on board mid-flight.

A hunt for the creature began and even though it was not found, the pilot chose to return to Mumbai for passenger safety, the airline said.

A spokesman for the company said the aircraft would have to be fumigated before getting back into service.

An alternative plane was used to fly the passengers on to London.

Two other incidents are reported to have hit Air India flight in the past day.

On one occasion, a pilot aborted take-off after a stray dog ran onto the runway in northern India.

And another plane from Mumbai collided with a catering van at the Newark airport in New Jersey, US.
