INEC bars Ikeazor from Anambra Central rerun poll (see why)

Barr.  Sharon Ikeazor
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may have barred Sharon Ikeazor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Anambra Central senatorial rerun scheduled for March 6.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State, Dr. Lawrence Azubuike, gave the indication in a statement in Awka.Ikeazor emerged in a fresh primary election after the former candidate, Dr. Chris Ngige, said he was not interested in running.

He said he was contented with his position as minister of labour and employment.

Ikeazor defeated the incumbent, Senator Uche Ekwunife, who had been removed by the appeal court on December 7, 2015.

However, INEC said no new candidate would be allowed to participate in the rerun.“Pursuant to the said judgment, only political parties and candidates that participated in March 28, 2015 senatorial election in Anambra central Senatorial District will participate in the re-run election,” Azubike declared.
