Opinion: Like Hon Afolabi Akanni, Like Ayo Dada; A Tale Of Two Sons Of Ekiti

It is not out of place to state that the duo of Honourable Afolabi Akanni popularly known as Afo guarantor and Ayo Dada made the news all over Nigeria.

They are both from the fountain of knowledge, Ekiti State. Hon. Akanni was arrested and detained by the operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) on alleged questionable roles played in the build up of the last gubernatorial election in the state while Dada was outstanding in the last UNILAG convocation where he broke a jinx of making the maximum CGPA of 5.00.

Earlier this week, Akanni was released by the DSS and the governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose arranged an heroic welcome for him. He even went a step further to charter an helicopter.

But in Dada's case, it is as if Mr. Governor is not interested in the feat achieved by the illustrious son. I'm yet to read an official congratulatory message either for the governor or the government of Ekiti State till now.

I think the governor should explain to us why he is treating Dada's uncommon  achievement with disdain, unlike the detainee.

Thanks for the distinguished members of the House of Representatives that celebrated him a couple of days ago. Though generally in Africa, we celebrate mediocrity over excellence, Olajumoke Agege bread seller a perfect and resent case study.

I nearly cried when I heard that Dada was about to be evicted in his house due to his inability to pay for the rent, but thanks to a popular OAP that savaged the ugly situation.

Be that as it may, we should change our orientation and start celebrating people that worth celebrating.

Dada should be celebrated not only by Ekiti State Governor but all Nigerians. It will be a morale booster.
