Opinion: Bukola Saraki, Please Practice What You Preach

It is longer news that the Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki is facing trial over false declaration of assets at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) based in Abuja.

The trial which has been generating a lot of heated debate amongst the political gladiators cum class across the country.

Some see it as a political persecution while other people opined that it is a fight against graft.

But to the Senate President, he believes that he is being persecuted based on the clandestine manner by which he got himself the number three seat.

It would be recalled that many intrigues were observed during the inauguration ceremony of this present eight Assembly, both at the Senate and House of Representatives.

Saraki and Rt. Hon. Dogara, Senate President and Speaker House of Representatives respectively defiled their party's directive about the composition of the legislative arm of government.

Over the weekend, Saraki reacted to the interview granted by the Ovation boss, Dele Momodu where he opined that he is being persecuted in a party that he has invested so much on.

He went on to say that, he is facing the trial because he opposed Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket that he party, All Progressives Congress (APC) wanted to field in the last 2015 general elections.

Back to his position of calling for the trial judge, Justice Umar Danladi to step down on his case due to the fact that he is corrupt.

It would be recalled also that Justice Umar has been exonerated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the anti-graft agency said the said Justice has no case to answer, since the petitioner has no substantive evidence against him.

But if Saraki can call for the removal or stepping aside of his trial judge for adjudging to be corrupt, that he has no moral right to adjudicate on his case, then he should consider himself no fit as well to continue the Senate.

What is good for the geese is also good for the gander. If he cannot resign over his CCT trial, he should do such due to leaked Panama Papers, afterall, some people that have been fingered in the leaked documents have resigned.

Oga Bukola Saraki should please practice what he preaches but following the path of honour.

Moving form pillar to post all in the name of getting beer parlour court judgment might not save him.
