Ekiti: FESSU Passes Vote On No Confidence On Gov Fayose, Issues 7-Day Ultimatum

The leadership of Federation of Ekiti State Students' Union (FESSU) has passed a vote of no confidence on the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose.

The students body made this known through a press release on Monday May 23rd. He condemned the nonchalant attitude of the governor on its plight and the plight of Ekitis at large.

It went further by given knocks over the inability of the state to pay it's workforce, bursary among others.

The press the reads in parts:

FESSU is the canopy under which all Ekiti indigenous students in all institutes of learning in Nigeria and beyond converges; a union saddled with the responsibility of ensuring the welfare of its members and preventing them from oppressive and intimidating actions. We shall however not be reluctant in fronting the fight leading to the total freedom of our members from individuals who finds pleasure in power arrogation and self-aggrandizement.

We have noticed the nonchalant attitude and the act of “Idon’tcarelism” exhibited by the leadership of Ekiti state government, under His Excellency Gov. Peter Ayodele Fayose as well as their inability to proffer feasible solutions and make sustainable developments, leading to total degradation of the state’s economic status and bad projection of the age-long reputation of our dear Ekiti state. Consequently, we bitterly pass a “vote of no confidence” on the government of Ekiti state.

Emerging hereunder are the areas where our emphases and bone of contentions are centered:

On bursary and scholarship

It remains an indubitable fact that bursary and scholarship serve as a mean through which students enjoy dividend of democracy. The government of Ekiti state, in the year 2015 issued out unnumbered forms for bursary and scholarship, on which moves were made to reject, having foreseen the proximity of defrauding the students through that mean, but we decided to be rational enough by handling the issue with great equanimity. We however express our utmost dissatisfaction for the worrisome and indecorous act of the commissioner  of education and scholarship board; acting in line with the instruction of the state government not to have done any processing on the bursary and scholarship till this present movement.

FESSU bus and secretariat

A distinguish union, such as ours is entitled to a bus for easy mobilization and a befitting secretariat sine qua non to the effective running of the union affairs. We frown totally at the state government for not being able to play its role by providing our needs with regards to bus and secretariat, despite all “sugar-quoted mouth promises” during the titanic battle of 2014 Ekiti gubernatorial race, which brought Gov. Fayose to office.
.

Ekiti  workers’ salary

Ekiti is a state with no industries; a state where most people rely solely and live on their monthly earning. It is thus highly ludicrous for such state’s government that claims to prioritize people’s well-being to intentionally withhold the salaries and wages of its workers as well as saddling the poor and hopeless citizens with herculean financial responsibilities, despite the unshaken efforts of the federal government of Nigeria on prompt release of allocations to each and every states of the federation. We however lament the cruelty and hardheartedness of those at the helm of affairs, as far as Ekiti state government is concerned.
.
We wish to also express our total displeasure and prove guilty; the action of Ekiti state government for not being respectful of students opinions in the present administration of the state. Nonetheless, without minding whose ox is gored; we shall continue to maintain our stands, play our roles and blow our trumpets until our voices are heard and our requests are favourably granted.
.
We are a set of law-abiding and well-behaved citizens, but we believe in “stick and carrot” approach. We shall not always hesitate to praise every individual for their laudable actions, while we do otherwise to any erring individuals.

It is on this note that the leadership of FESSU national gives seven days ultimatum to the government of Ekiti state, under the leadership of Gov Ayodele Fayose, taking effect on Monday, 23rd of May, 2016 to do justice to the afore-mentioned issues and make necessary amendments.

Lest, the state capital shall witness a mother of all protest, and the entire indigenous students of Ekiti state shall therefore #occupy# the capital city of the state and agitate aggressively for our rights, it ended.
