Embattled former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriffhas once again been hit with a huge legal blow after a Federal High Court in Abuja sacked him and all others who became officers of the party through the amended Article 47, Rule 6 of the party’s constitution, Ynaija reports.
The court, presided over by Justice Valentine Ashi, ruled that Sheriff’s appointment to the office of the national chairman of the party is illegal and therefore nullified.
The judge noted that all who attained the national leadership position of the party based on the amended provision of the PDP constitution which was illegally introduced in December 2014 are to be immediately sacked.
The court directed that the affected officers should cease from parading themselves as party executives.Sheriff is principally affected because he became the National chairman of the party by virtue of the amendment.
The judge nullified the amendment of the said provision which he ruled was done in violation of mandatory provisions of Article 66 (2) and (3) of the party’s constitution.
Sheriff was previously sacked as the National Chairman of the PDP on May 21 after a consensus was reached by governors and other stakeholders within the party at a controversial national convention.
A caretaker committee to be led by Ahmed Makarfi was immediately appointed at the said convention.
Sheriff had rejected the sack and gone on to run a parallel leadership to the instituted caretaker committee generating a lot of controversy within the opposition party.
