Kudos To The Judiciary On Metuh’s Bail Conditions

Earlier on Tuesday, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted the National Publicity Secretary  of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh bail.

Metuh who had been in detention for days now . His arrest was not inconnection with the arms deal.

His name was mentioned by the ring leader, Col Sambo Dasuki, the then National Security Adviser to immediate past president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The court ordered him to pay N400 million and two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the court must live in Abuja and swear affidavit of means with two passport photographs.

I received the news of the bail conditions with utmost alacrity and unalloyed joy, this is not because I'm particular about the personality of the person granted bail but conditions spelt out by the presiding justice.

The era of impunity is going to abyss gradually, the logic behind this judgment is very simple to decipher.

The N400 million allegedly collected by Metuh has been retrieved using the instruments of the court.

If he fails to return the loot or jumps bail, the sureties will lose their properties. So it is a win-win situation for the government.

This is laudable and historic. Since the judgement of the former police pension board chairman that stole over N20bn but was asked to pay far less than 1m, I have lost confidence in the judiciary.

But this will go a long way in re-igniting the confidence repose in the arm of government.

But judiciary should also look into the politicians that get to office by rigging, they should be prosecuted and even banned from politics for a reasonable years.

If possible larger percentage of the allowance collected as illegal occupants of such offices should be returned to government pulse.

This will in no small way discourage 'do-or-die antics being used to win elections.

It is a clear and crystal warning to the looters and intending looters that days of impunity is going to oblivion.

God bless our judiciary.
