Court Jails Six Landlords In Over For Not Having 'Toilet'  In Ondo
Six weary landlords were on Tuesday sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour by a Mobile Court sitting in Ondo town, at the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo state.

It was gathered that the landlords were accused of defecating indiscriminately around their premises and also failed to amend the dilapidated walls in their respective buildings.

Sanitation Health Officer, Elizabeth Akinfemisoye said the action of the beleaguered landlords was capable of causing outbreak of diseases in the populated area.

Akinfemisoye, who was joined by Adejoke Olarewaju explained that the six landlords reluctantly failed to provide sanitary kitchen and bathroom in their respective houses, thereby furthering exposing tenants to dangers.

The duo of the health officers slammed the six landlords with four count charges ranging from their inability to provide latrine accommodation in their compounds and rented-out apartments.

It was learnt that the offence of the embattled landlordscontradict section 8, part II, cap 52, and punishable under same section and sub-section o, p, r, and a of Ondo State environmental sanitation law of 2004.

However, the accused landlords pleaded guilty before the court to all the charges read before them.

Presiding Magistrate, Odenusi Fadeyi, sentenced the landlords to six months imprisonment each or pay the sum of N10, 000 in lieu of the fine.
