Opinion: Students' Dressing: Rauf Aregbesola Fanning The Ember Of Religious Hullabaloo

I have read a lot about the ongoing conundrums surrounding the way students are dressing in Osun State.

The situation is not palatable and regrettable but it can not but be linked to the unpopular decision of the present Aregbesola-led government.

Some couple of years ago, the governor merged all the schools in the state thereby creating avoidable problems which are tailored along religious beliefs cum affiliations.

There are different schools across the nation, some are religious based such as Muslim schools, Catholic school, just to mention but few.

They all have their different modulus operandi. But since the merger, we now see Muslims wearing hijabs in an orthodox-oriented schools.

This pissed the schools off, the Christians through their body, Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) instructed their followers to be wearing their church garments to school, since everyone is now free to display his or her own religion without any hitch when in school.

It was settled then but the issue resurfaced again some days ago when a court in the state ordered that Muslim students are free to be wearing their hijabs in all schools across the state without any fear of harassment.

This prompted a sharp reaction from the Christian circle, the students decided to be going to their school in their church robes on the order of their leaders.

In a swift reaction, governor Rauf Aregbesola has threatened to expel any student violating the law of the law by wearing church robes to the school but CAN has replied him by saying he should be ready to expel all Christian students in the state.

'Uniform' according to it's denotative meaning, it implies things that look alike. So people should not mix learning with religion, the best place to practice religion is the religious center like churches, mosques or shrines.

I will suggest that the pro-muslim law or court order should be vacated, for peace to reign. So that the governor will not be seen as being biased.

Aregbesola is not the first governor in the state and will definitely not be the last, we should learn how to tolerate other people's religion lest the state and Nigeria by extension turns into an avoidable religious crises.

I can't imagine seeing the students of traditional worshippers in their regalias, the governor should do the needful.

Now is the time!
