China’s first electricity-powered aircraft gets production approval

China’s first domestically developed electricity-powered aircraft has been approved for production by civil aviation authorities.

The Liaoning General Aviation Research Academy, the developer, said on Friday in Shenyang (China) that the two-seat RX1E aircraft can fly for 45 minutes to 60 minutes with a maximum speed of 120 km per hour after an hour and a half of charging.

The academy noted that the environmentally friendly aircraft model has strong market potential, especially in pilot training and tourism. It said there had been 28 orders for the aircraft.
