Today In Plenary: Senate Proceedings for Today, Thursday 3rd December, 2015


POINT OF ORDER

Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West raised a Point of Order against an online tabloid Sahara Reporters for blackmail and intimidation.

Senator Dino Melaye added that the tabloid, Sahara Reporters is a threat to democracy with their continued act of insubordination.

The Senate referred the petition to the committees on Ethics, Privileges & Public Petitions, I.C.T & Cybercrime and Judiciary Human Rights to report back in Three (3) weeks.

The Senate presented Four (4) Bills for their respective first readings:

1. Word Security Watches Nationwide (Est. ect.) Bill, 2015 ( SB. 80) by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce (Bayelsa East)

2. Sickle Cell Anaemia (Prevention, Control and
Management) Bill, 2015 ( SB. 128) by Senator Sam Egwu (Ebonyi North)

3. Unemployed Youths, Elderly and Indigent Sustainability Allowances Trust Fund Bill, 2015 ( SB. 193) by Senator Ali Ndume (Senate Leader)

4. Chartered Institute of Facilities Management of Nigeria Bill, 2015 ( SB. 194) by Senator Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai (Borno Central)

CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS

Report of the Ad-hoc Committee on Works on the total collapse of federal Roads in Nigeria and prevalent gully erosion sites. By Senator Barnabas Gemade (Benue North East).

Recommendations:

- The need to revamp federal roads;
- Construction of concrete roads over laterite roads and
- Use of Railways.
The Report was passed.

Senate Leader then moved for the stepping down of other items on the Order Paper to the next legislative day.
The Minority Leader seconded.

The Senate President Bukola Saraki then puts the question and Senate adjourned to Tuesday 8th December, 2015.
