Nigeria beat Algeria to emerge U-23 AFCON champions

Nigeria U-23 Eagles have emerged champions of the CAF U-23 Cup of Nations after they beat Algeria 2-1 in the final.

Oghenekaro Etebo put Nigeria ahead in the 14th minute from the penalty spot after he was brought down.

The Algerians drew level in the 31st minute via an own-goal by Segun Oduduwa who headed in a Zinedine Ferhat cross.

Etebo restored Nigeria’s lead when he scored his
second of the game and fifth of the tournament.

In the 68th minute, Algeria were awarded a penalty after Oduduwa committed a foul in the 18-yard box but Ferhat’s effort was saved by Emmanuel Daniel.

Every effort by the Algerians to draw level proved futile as Nigeria U-23 Eagles held on to claim their first title.
