Shouldn't the Senate Go On With The Social Media Bill??

The resent unpopular bill about social media that is being sponsored by Sen. Ibn Na'Allah no doubt has been generating a lot of controversies within the old and the trendy.

But to every coin, there are always two sides. I once posited that the bill is anti-people and will work against democratic system.

Where it is believed that the citizens have freedom of information, though in the real sense, this much publicised 'freedom of information' is always on paper.

Thanks to the social media that now gives us the ample opportunity to relate well with our representatives at various offices (political office holders), loved ones and role models.

You don't have to knock on anyone's door any longer before you pass a message to him or her.

No doubt, social media is now a largest constituency in Nigeria.

Be that as it may, I think regulating the 'social media space' may not be a complete bad idea.

Using the report of one of the foremost online news agency, Sahara Reporters of yesterday, 10th of December, 2015 as a case study.

The post started like 'Sahara Reporters can authoritatively confirm that the Senate's Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio lost at the Appeal Court'

I didn't quote the post verbatim, but my emphasis is on 'authoritatively'!

When in contrast, the judgement was delivered earlier today..... Hmmmmmmm

It creates a poser and requires logical analysis before arriving at a reasonable conclusion, should we say that SaharaReporters decided to post that to heat up the polity unnecessary??

How on earth should a media house report an event that has never happened??

Even I fell for it like many news platform, but I have apologied for the crap.

There is no organisation or platform without sensorship, if the 'sensorship' will not gag the social media, I'm in support.

But if otherwise, I'm not. I still can't fathom the reason for the 'avoidable blunder and well orchestrated plan' by SaharaReporters.

Every pressmen and online publishers should be able to post news that they can vet and a also stand by.

Not because you have access to the internet, you then abuse it.

It is my believe that our Senators will listen to vox la populi and do the needful but on our ends, as publishers, we should let integrity be our watchwords.

Let's be guided.
