A Call For A Halt To Niger/Delta Amnesty Programme

The disturbing news emanating from South-South part of my country, Nigeria is uncalled for and condemnable.

We can't forget so soon the pragmatic move made by the late President, Alhaji Musa Yar'Adua towards creating a peaceful and enabling environment in the region.

The immediate past president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan headed the committee then. They came up with 'An Amnesty Programme'.

This made the majority of the militants dropped their weapons openly and embraced peace.

All those that laid down their arms and ammunition were placed on basic allowance and some were enrolled in various institutions of learning both within and outside the country, all bills being footed by the federal government even till date.

The programme have received applause from the citizens and even the outside communities.

But the resent development is an total departure from the pact signed by the militants then.

It will be very silly of the federal government to be paying this militants allowances which in turn be used to pile up arms and ammunition that will be used against the same federal government and its parastatals.

I express impugn in the present relevance of the programme since the bombings  have resumed unabated. It is now a hogwash, a shadow of itself.

We have been praying for our refineries which have been pieces of antiquities to resurrect for long, now that we are achieving this dream, some ignoramus are sabotaging the system.

I don't care and don't wanna know what their agitation(s) is/are but putting Nigeria in to ransom and siege due to a shallow cum selfish reason is not tenable and should be condemned by all.

Nigerian government should criminalise any act that poses as threat to the development of nation's economy and therefore declare total war on them.

Law should take its cause, Nigeria should not continue to be regarded as a 'Banana Republic' where everything goes.

There are various ways of making your grievances known peacefully but it otherwise, it should be 'fire for fire'.

This reincarnation of bombings in this region can't but be traced to some greedy politicians in the region. For the fact that they lose election is not a reason to put Nigeria in comatose.

Nigeria belongs to all.
