#BayelsaDecides: Bayelsa Speaker’s house reportedly attacked in Southern Ijaw

Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson
The House of the Speaker, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Konbowei Benson, has been reportedly attacked in Korokorosie in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Though the police have yet to confirm the attack, the Speaker, who spoke in a live telephone radio programme, claimed that men in hoods threw dynamites that destroyed part of his house on Thursday.

Benson, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, accused the opposition party of hiring thugs that attacked his house.

Benson said he got wind of the development around 4am through a telephone call.

He said, “I was asleep in my house here in Yenagoa and around 4am, my wife’s phone rang and a message was sent to us that they have gone to throw dynamite to my house.

“It is not something unexpected because they have always been promising to attack, to kill or assassinate me or my family members.

“During the last election about 14 persons from my community and family members were kidnapped and taken to Ologbobiri and assaulted.”

When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat, said he had yet to get a report of the incident.
