Kano Flood Kills 18, Destroy Property Worth N700m |PoliFocus

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday said at least 18 persons have lost their lives and property worth over N700 million destroyed by flood in the past two weeks in Kano state.


Musa Ilallah, north-west zonal coordinator of the agency, disclosed this, saying massive flood ravaged the 22 local government areas of the state.

He said property, including houses and farmlands were lost to the floods.“The worst affected local government areas are Shanono, Bagwai, Kiru with 749 victims and N347million worth of property damaged,” the statement read.

“The other areas affected are Rano, Kibiya, Bunkure, Gabasawa, Dawakin Tofa, Kano Municipal, Danbatta and Takai.

“Others are Dawakin Kudu, Karaye, Rogo, Kura, Wudil, Bichi, Sumaila, Garun Mallam, Ungoggo, Bebeji and Warawa.”

The agency said it collaborated with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in theassessment of damages in the areas.

“NEMA commiserates with the government and people of Kano state over the loss of lives and also sympathises with victims who lost their properties in the flood,” it said.

“NEMA assures that it will continue to partner the Kano state government to alleviate the sufferings of victims of all disasters in the state.”
