My US Trip Privately Funded —Aisha Buhari

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, currently on a week-long visit to the United States, said her trip to source international support for the suffering women and children in the North East was not state funded.

Speaking in an interview on the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA) monitored in Abuja, yesterday, Mrs. Buhari also gave insight into why she has dragged Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, to court for insulting her person.

Insisting that her trip was funded from personal funds and sponsorship grants from undisclosed sources, she added, “We sponsored even the government officials that came with us on this trip,” adding that the Federal Government was not funding her office and that her role was just a supportive one to complement her husband’s services to the country.

The president’s wife said; “We have come to the U.S. to hold discussions with some private organisations, whose main objectives are to render aid to vulnerable people, confirming that she had met with organisations that were known for promoting peace and provision of aid to displaced children.”

Buhari also explained that she decided to sue Fayose because he attacked her for no reason, and also raised false allegations against her, noting that the governor had been insulting her and her husband since during the 2015 campaign.

“At the time, he was not the only one insulting us, but people felt that it was just campaign.

After the election, which we won and they lost, everyone else moved on except him, and he extended his insults to me. I did not run for Presidency; I am a married woman and I have never called his name, I never knew him, as a governor, and for a chief executive of a state to keep insulting and raising false allegations against me, I have to respond and I decided to go to court.”
