A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Dr. Adegbola Dominic, has urged the federal government to also beam its searchlight on former and serving governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who allegedly frittered state resources at their disposal on electioneering campaign during the just concluded general elections.
Dominic, a former governorship aspirant in Lagos, said there is no marked difference between the crime committed by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, who allegedly diverted funds meant for purchase of arms and APC governors who frittered tax payers’ money on sponsoring the APC’s presidential campaign.
While welcoming the probe and prosecution of Dasuki and all those who partook in the scandal, Dominic said the measure should also be applied to former and serving APC governors, instead of rewarding them with appointments.
“If what we are hearing about the money disbursed by the former National Security Adviser is true, then I am disappointed.
If that money was earmarked to purchase arms and ammunitions for our troops, and the money was diverted and spent the way it was spent, I am not happy about it”.
“But that being so, that is the way of politicians. That is what the APC governors also did with the money they should have spent for their various states during the last dispensation.
They also spent the money on electioneering campaign. It is unfortunate but that is the way of political actors”.
“I have no objection at all to the investigations by President Buhari. I am happy that those guilty are being tried”.
“But as Dasuki is being investigated and prosecuted, these governors who also used their resources to fund the APC should also be investigated.
Now they cannot pay salaries. They cannot run their states effectively because they mismanaged public funds in their custody just as Dasuki mismanaged the money meant for purchase of arms”.
“We are not saying they should let Dasuki go, he should be probed. But the same measure should also apply to APC governors who have been implicated in one form of administrative probe or the other should also be investigated and probed rather than rewarding them with appointments” he said.
