Reps Sets To Probe Bail-out Funds In Osun, Ekiti, Others |PoliFocus

The House of Representatives has vowed to probe alleged diversion of bail-out funds given to states by the Federal Government.

According to a report by OrderPaper, the House listed Osun, Bayelsa, Benue, Ekiti, Kwara, Plateau, Oyo, Delta, Niger, Ogun, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Abia as States which collected billions for payment of workers salaries but diverted the funds to other purposes.

To get to the bottom of the matter, the House  hasdecided to constitute an ad-hoc committee to investigate the terms and conditions for the disbursement and the utilization of the bailout funds by states.

The decision flowed from the adoption of a motion moved under matters of urgent public importance, by Sunday Karimi (PDP, Kogi) on Thursday.

Mr. Karimi in his lead debate decried a situation where many of the beneficiary states have failed to utilize the entire bailout fund to offset the backlog of salaries owed to workers.

The lawmaker expressed dismay at reports that many states were said to have kept the funds in interest-yielding accounts to the detriment of workers who continue to wallow in hunger and hardship.
