UK Arrests About 30,000 Illegal Immigrants In Three Years |PoliFocus

Nearly 28,000 illegal immigrants have been arrested in the UK over the past three years – equivalent to one every hour.

And staggering figures yesterday showed the numbers were rising dramatically.

Many of those caught having been suspected of entering the UK illegally have been picked up at motorway service stations and truck stops.

Figures showed police officers made 7,709 arrests for illegal entry in 2013. This number rose to 7,913 in 2014 and 9,600 last year.

The figures don’t include people arrested for overstaying their visa

There were 2,578 in the first three months of this year alone – meaning the total could top 10,000 for 2016.

Former Special Branch ports officer Chris Hobbs branded the figures “appalling”.Commons Home Affairs Committee chairman Keith Vaz demanded “urgent action” to tackle the problem.

And the Labour veteran said it proved Government claims of “water tight security” at the border were a joke.

He said: “If 27,000 people have been arrested for entering the country illegally by our police forces, then it shows that this problem is even worse than we had anticipated.
