Ex Head Of State Gen. Gowon Urges Support For Anti-graft War |PoliFocus

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), on Tuesday urged Nigerians to support the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Speaking to State House correspondents after meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Gowon noted that corruption is one of the problems that had created serious setback for Nigeria nationally and internationally.
He said: “These are some of the issues we talked about, one appreciates his efforts and determination to rid the country of corruption. Corruption is one of the problems that had held the country down and created serious setback for the country both nationally and internationally.

“And then of course the current situation about the Chibok girls and the efforts the government is making to rescue them. He said the government needs to get credible information about the whereabouts of the girls and also those that would assist the government achieve that.

“I believe that the government is certainly determined to ensure that a number of these girls are brought back home safely as soon as possible. To achieve that, certain credibility must be established on our sources of information and their location. But presently, no one knows where these girls are.
“All these information that you have been getting, I don’t know their sources. But all efforts at engaging the international media and sources are necessary so that this matter can be resolved once and for all.”

The ex- Head of State also disclosed that he was in the Villa to say hello to the President and inform him of his plan to travel outside the country on vacation.
He added: “So I have come to let him know that I would be out of the country. In case he wants me, he knows that I’m out and he is going to pay my way back, if he wants me back for any programme.”
