NITDA Donates 'Knowledge Access Centre' To NYSC |PoliFocus

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)has has donated a ‘Knowledge Access Venue’ to the FCT Secretariat of the National Youth Service Corps.


The facility is located in the NYSC Orientation Camp, Kubwa, and is fully equipped with 15 Desktop Computers and accessories, printers, photocopiers, scanners, projector with screen, split-air conditioners, industrial fans, spiral binding machine.It also has generating set and solar energy system that will provide uninterrupted power supply.

Speaking at the formal inauguration of the centre, the Acting Director-General of NITDA, Dr Vincent Olatunji, urged corps members to avail themselves of all ICT opportunities in order to broaden their horizon for self empowerment.

Olatunji said ICT was the language of the new generation, adding that there was the need to aid Corps members’ abilities in teaching, learning and research works.He also urged corps members to use the computerized centre for personal development.

“We will contribute our own quota to ICT development in Nigeria; wewant to raise software developers and software managers because ICT is the language of the new generation.

“Whoever doesn’t know how to use the internet is an illiterate, and we want our Corps members and staff to be computer literate,” he said.

Olatunji assured that the NITDA would deploy similar ICT infrastrcture to NYSC formations all the thirty-six states of the federation in less than three months.

In his address, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, lauded NITDA for its magnanimity in partnering with the Scheme to empower Corps members through the use of ICT.

He said: “This is the first time the Scheme would receive a gift of this magnitude and on behalf of the NYSC family, I say God bless you for your positive gesture in identifying and partnering with the NYSC.”

The Director-General also used the forum to appeal to other prospective partners to assist the Scheme in providing training materials in order to aid Corps empowerment.

He said all stakeholders must ensure that there is technological investment in the NYSC Scheme.

Earlier, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mr Omotayo Adewoye had applauded NITDA for training the 2016 Batch ‘A’ Corps members in computer-related packages free of charge while in camp.
