EXCLUSIVE: Opinion: Akeredolu VS Tinubu: A Tale Of Two Former Jolly Friends |PoliFocus

The scenario that is ongoing can be likened to the case of whatever that goes around comes around.

It is no longer news that one of the leading governorship aspirants under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fell out of grace with his erstwhile boss, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the party.

During the build-up to the last gubernatorial election in the state in 2012, I was physical present in the state then. We all knew how Tinubu schemed out notable political bigwigs just to pave way for Akeredolu's emergence as the party's standard bearer then.

The likes of Senator Boroface, Dr. Olu Agunloye among others will not forget the scenario so soon.

During the election, the incumbent governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko thrashed Akeredolu, whom many people believed that he had no political weight in the state then but Jagaban wanted to appreciate his efforts as regards the election tribunals where he single-handedly won many cases for the party then.

It was gathered that he (Akeredolu) even lost his ward to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I don't write this to demean the person of Barr. Akeredolu but for us to learn from history.

Four years along the line, Tinubu who was celebrated by Akeredolu then for handpicking him is now labelling same person for indicating his interest to support another member of the party.

If Tinubu had his way then as a leader, he can still contribute to who will emerge going by his position in the party. But name calling from a one-time beneficiary of same process is primitive and condemnable.

What is happening now affirms the political axiom, that "no permanent friend in politics", Barrister Akeredolu should adjust to that.

Let me add quickly that in democracy, power lies with the people. Tinubu is a Lagosian not Ondo indigene. The aspirants should go back to the drawing board and map out the modus operandi of sailing to victory, since it is a matter of votes.

Aspirants with mushroom supporters can merger together in order to form a formidable team.

I wish all the aspirants best of luck as they go to the field on September 3. They should all be law abiding, nothing good can come from an atmosphere filled with rancour.

It is either the shadow election make APC or mar it.... It is a choice to make!
