Police Refute Clash With Soldiers In Ilorin |PoliFocus

The Kwara State Police command yesterday refuted media report that its men clashed with soldiers in Ilorin, the state capital.

It said its men only waded into a reported case of disturbance of public peace at Challenge area in Ilorin where they rescued a soldier identified as David Ochile from a crowd and taken to 'A' Division police station.

A statement issued by Public Relations Officer of the state police command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, said a phone dealer at Challenge area, Museni Ogbesu, alleged that the soldier assaulted him because he wore a blue camouflage knickers.

The statement noted that the phone dealer alleged further that screens of four of his phones were smashed in the process, which ostensibly drew the attention of the crowd. It stated that in the process of resolving the matter, one Lieutenant Attom attached to NASE Base of Sobi Barracks, Ilorin led some soldiers to disrupt the process while attempting to force his way into the police station.

The statement said the action of the army officer drew the anger of policemen on duty who denied him and other soldiers' entrance intothe station with arms.It maintained that the Area Commander intervened in the brewing face-off and was eventually settled.

"On 30 July, 2016 at about 1501hrs, there was a reported case of disturbance of public peace at Challenge/Post-Office area, Ilorin, which prompted the patrol team from 'A' Division moving to the scene."

A crowd was met surrounding one Army Private named David Ochile with service No 13NA, the soldier was rescued to the station. At the station, one Museni Ogbesu, a trader dealing with phones alleged the soldier of assaulting him because he wore a blue camouflage knickers and in the process, screens of four of his phones were smashed.

"Still in the process of settling the matter, one Lieutenant Attom attached to NASE Base, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin led soldiers to disrupt the process by attempting to force their way into the Area Command Headquarters, Ilorin."

This drew the anger of policemen on duty and prevented them fromentering the station with arms.

Normalcy was however restored through the intervention of the Area Commander. The case eventually settled and everybody departed peacefully", Okansami said in the statement.
