Ekiti Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Representing Ikole I, Gboyega Aribisogan For 6 Months |PoliFocus

The Ekiti State House of Assembly on Thursday suspended a lawmaker representing Ikole Constituency 1, Mr. Gboyega Aribisogan, for 180 legislative days for alleged anti-party activities.

The decision followed the adoption of recommendation of a seven-man Ad Hoc panel chaired by Mr Jeje Samuel that investigated allegations of gross misconduct and acts capable of destabilising the assembly and state government against him.

The recommendations were submitted to the Ethics and Privileges Committee of the House and adopted at a plenary presided over by Speaker Kola Oluwawole.

Aribisogan, a former Information Committee Chairman, was also barred from holding any position of responsibility on behalf of the assembly during the period and to lose benefits associated with his office.

The assembly also ordered him not to be seen in and around the premises of the assembly within a radius of 1km and that he should submit all properties of the assembly to the Clerk.

Aribisogan was accused of romancing with the opposition and divulging several information in the process, an act the lawmakers said was tantamount to anti-party activities.

Specifically, he was accused of having meetings with enemies of the state government and presenting several false information thereby casting aspersions on members of the assembly and symbol of state government.

The new information committee chairman, Dr. Samuel Omotosho, however, persistently refused to mention those Aribisogan allegedly met with when asked by journalists at a press briefing.
